'Rust' armorer blames Alec Baldwin for fatal shooting in lawsuit against firm that supplied bullets | Daily Mail Online

I have been sitting with this article for a couple of days, trying to unpack it all. There is a lot.

Oddly enough, the armorer is making some good points. I can see what she is trying to say. And she says she wants to go to trial and she may be OK at the end if the jury thinks it through.

"The accidental discharge never would have happened if Halls had summoned Gutierrez-Reed to supervise, the court filing said.

'Had Hannah been called back in, she would have re-inspected the weapon, and every round again, and instructed Baldwin on safe gun practice with the cross draw, as was her standard practice on set and under circumstances where (1) Baldwin did not respond to Hannah’s request on October 15 to schedule cross draw training and (2) the gun had been out of her possession for 15 minutes.'

Dummy reloaded with live ammo - and stamped with the Starline Brass logo - were later discovered on set, according to a previously unearthed search warrant.

So she is making a good point. It is proper protocol for her to be called in when a weapon is being used on set. She SHOULD have been called back on set to oversee the scene and she said she would never have let him point that gun at her. And she would have rechecked the weapon and that should have been done before it was handed to AB.

Her main problem is that she should have locked up the weapons if she wanted them to call her when they were going to use them again.

The lawsuit also claims that Kenney texted Gutierrez-Reed after the tragedy, and tried to convince her to help 'implicate AD [assistant director] Halls.'

Said the text: 'Had you partnered up with a truly professional AD, none of this would have happened.

'That true professional would have supported your safe efforts. Instead you got David ''reckless'' Halls.'

Added the lawsuit: 'Seth suggested that AD Halls had essentially bullied Hannah and not allowed her to do her job safely. Seth stated that if she would shift blame to Halls, he would “have her back.”'

Kenney also texted her dad in an effort to try to convince claims made publicly by her lawyers that the shooting was an act of sabotage, the lawsuit said.

HGR says in her complaint the AD Halls was wrong in not allowing her to do her job properly. Then she complains that Kenney is saying basically the same thing. JMO.

Sounds like SK knew he was the one to supply the live bullets, that's why he's texting her at the time and trying to manipulate her to blame DH. Those texts are kind of creepy.
Those live rounds came from somewhere and Kenney could be the source. But he didn't load any of those live rounds in the gun that AB fired.

AD Halls should have allowed HGR to do more safety checks like she asked. Would she have done a better job checking the rounds a second time? No way to know but she should have been given the opportunity. JMO.

From the article above, and the statements of a few, it certainly shows that the entire set was a cluster, skirting safety issues, from many 'players' in this story. They all were rushed, sloppy and 'working within the budget'. Including AB. It is claimed that he didn't go to a safety class, nor did he receive the perceived and proper training required for the cross draw. Why? Could there be texts or messages on his phone about these incidents?

Sounds like she loaded the live bullet and put a lot of effort into it, despite noticing it had no hole. I don't expect she would have figured it out the second time.

Anyone holding a weapon has the responsibility for following protocol.
How do you expect Baldwin to figure out the bullet was live when the supposed professional didn't figure it out? She described loading the bullet without the hole, it wouldn't go in, yet she persisted and finally got it loaded. So its not like she didn't get a good look at it.

So a bunch of incompetent or negligent (take your pick) non-professionals trying to throw each other under the bus? JMO, it won't take a judge or jury long to figure out who is trying to cover up some major mistakes.

I thought armorers are supposed to keep the weapons under their sight and control at all times?

BBM

That's a huge red flag, JMO, for someone who didn't know what they were doing. Then she describes doing something with a gun, then leaving it somewhere in the open for someone else to come and do whatever with it. Yikes, her own lawsuit describes actions that incriminate her.

Protocol was that the armorer should have been called back to the set before Baldwin was given the weapon. She needed to oversee his use of the weapon. And she would have rechecked it, according to her.
She would not have allowed them to use that weapon in a rehearsal, nor would he be allowed to point it at someone at point blank range, the way he did that afternoon.
They were not supposed to be handling it without her being notified.

So on re-check she would have figured out she loaded a live bullet? Why didn't she figure that out while loading the bullet to begin with?

I thought protocol was that the armorer is not supposed to allow the guns to leave their sight. Guns are supposed to be locked up, in the armorer's possession at all times.

I'm surprised this young woman just left them lying around while she went off to do other things.

Yes, that was WRONG. It may well be her undoing. But I think there is plenty of blame to spread around.

She found the box of supposed dummy bullets that morning and didn't know where it came from.

"Gutierrez’s lawsuit appears to cast doubt on where the ammunition came from. Her attorneys wrote that she found a full box of prop bullets on the morning of the shooting, although she had “not seen a full box of dummy rounds in weeks.”"

If she hadn't seen them before, why did she assume anything about what kind of bullets they were? It could have been a box full of live ammunition, for all she knew.

Just speculating, but what if some of the people on the set doing "target practice" brought a box of their own live ammo to the set? She then may have picked it up and loaded it into the prop weapon.

JMO, people who take photos of themselves in "sexy" poses while holding (probably loaded) guns seem pretty dumb to me. Not professional, nor anyone to take seriously or trust with your life on a movie set.

Over the course of the Rust production, Sarah would from time to time bring other boxes labeled dummy ammunition onto the set.

The above quote is from the complaint. If HGR had not seen a full box of dummy rounds for weeks why would her own complaint say something different?
