Prince George... we hear that name EVERYDAY. lol We live a mile from Prince George's County line... it butts up against DC. (Actually DC and PG county tend to go hand-in-hand)

Like Cappuccino, I like Alexander, but not too keen on the other 2 names. I do ponder, though, why only 3 names? William, Harry and Charles all have 4 names. (ok, Harry has 4 and a nickname...)

I wanted them to name him Arthur so he would be King Arthur one day.

I don't think you'll ever see another Prince named Arthur. The Royals apparently have a superstitious fear of using the name because every Prince named Arthur has died young.

Wonder if someone in the press will call him "Georgie"?

I hope not! Makes me think of this:

Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry;
When the girls came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away.

Lol...I thought of the song ''hey there georgie girl''.

My 8 year old started to sing the Curious George monkey song when he overheard me tell my teen daughter what the name choice was.

okay - I'm curious as SteelyDan above - and I don't understand...

So, Queen Elizabeth has a husband named Prince Philip - why is he not King Philip?

If Prince William becomes King, Kate would be Queen Catherine - as someone above mentioned - is that correct?? I understand (from above) that William & Harry are called "Prince" - because their grandmother is Queen, BUT! if Princess Diana is called a Princess, why isn't Kate that? i.e. Princess Catherine? I must be missing something?? :waitasec:

If someone could explain - I would appreciated! TIA! :seeya:

I have read (NE) that the Queen has heart problems and sciatica problems - and is expected to end her reign soon - and will skip over Prince Charles and make Prince William King - I sure hope so! I really couldn't stand to "see" a Queen Camilla!! :scared:

I hope not, too!

I don't remember anyone calling Will... Willy. So maybe lil' George is safe from being called "Georgie".

Oh god, I can take a swipe at some of it.

Charles is Prince of Wales, hence Diana was a Princess (of Wales).

William is a Duke, hence Kate is a Duchess. He's not Prince of Wales because Charles still is.

There's a term for the spouse of a monarch who is not a monarch in their own right, but my knowledge is mostly 500 years old and doesn't apply. King Consort? Prince Consort? Sigh.

And I don't know what Kate's title will be if William becomes King. Queen consort? (As opposed to Queen Regnant.)

All I can tell you is that Henry VIII had his wives crowned Queen in an actual coronation ceremony, or didn't, depending on his mood at the time. Well, and his daughter Mary I married King Philip of Spain while she was the reigning Queen of England but he did not automatically become King of England because it doesn't work like that. (He bugged her to have him crowned but it wasn't actually in her power.)

More confused now? =D

So, Queen Elizabeth has a husband named Prince Philip - why is he not King Philip?

Women who marry a monarch take the title of their husband, but men who marry a monarch don't. That's why Queen Victoria's husband was Prince Albert, and this Queen's husband is Prince Phillip.

Diana married the Prince of Wales, Kate married the Duke of Cambridge. William only has the title of Prince because he is the Queen's grandson, he's not actually Prince of anywhere.

I have read (NE) that the Queen has heart problems and sciatica problems - and is expected to end her reign soon - and will skip over Prince Charles and make Prince William King - I sure hope so! I really couldn't stand to "see" a Queen Camilla!!

Prince Charles will succeed his mother to the throne when she dies. There's no doubt whatsoever about that, and there's nothing the Queen could do to prevent it even if she wanted to. Royalty doesn't work like Presidential elections, Charles was destined to succeed from the time he was born, regardless of how popular he is, (unless he wants to stand down himself, which by all accounts he doesn't).

Whether Camilla will ever be crowned Queen is a different matter. They've caved into public opinion sufficiently to deny her the title Princess of Wales, so maybe they will also deny her the title of Queen. But that is effectively the position she will hold one day, title or no.

I disagree. If the media is not respectful, and becomes overbearing, and dangerous William will cut them off at the knees. He is a nice guy, but he's had enough. He lost his mother because of them, and there is no way in he// he will take any chances on losing his wife and son. I suggest the media play by Will's rules!! :gavel:

I certainly hope so and completely agree! He gives the press more than enough as it is :)

LOL!

I actually love the new name! Seems very fitting and traditional :) I am still shocked its a boy, I was certain it was a little girl! JMO.

William presented Kate with his mother's engagement ring when he proposed, so Diana's ring is on the hand which is cradling the baby :tears:

Kate applauded for not hiding new mommy tummy

NEW YORK (AP) — As Kate and William showed off the royal baby, what caught the eye of many women was not the new heir to the throne but the Duchess of Cambridge's post-childbirth silhouette: that little bump under her pretty polka-dot dress.

"I love that she came out and there was a mommy tummy. It was there! We all saw it!" said Lyss Stern of New York City, who remembers turning down offers of a girdle and diet pills after her first child was born nine years ago.

Stern, whose company Divamoms.com organizes events and product launches, added that Kate was sending "the right message," in stark contrast to Hollywood celebrities who are shown "three weeks after childbirth with a flat stomach and G-string bikini. That's not real"...

I predict a state-side surge in the name "George" for new baby boys :)

Thanks SO much Cappucino for the explanation!! I understand now!
