THE deceased man is 66-year-old George Gerbic from Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast, police said in a statement on Friday.

A 56-year-old woman was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday charged with Mr Gerbic's murder.
She is also charged with interfering with a corpse.

Police won't confirm reports the woman is his de-facto partner, although it has been revealed the pair lived together at Tanawha.

"There's been a lot of technology used but also a lot of good old-fashioned detective work, wearing out your shoe leather," Det Insp McNab said.

QUOTE from the ARTICLE:
Lindy Yvonne Williams, 56, has been named as the alleged killer behind the Gympie headless torso case.
With chin-length blonde dishevelled hair and wearing a prison issue jumper, Ms Williams appeared bewildered as she sat in the dock at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

Can't believe a woman did this... That has to be pretty rare. I wonder if she had help?

Tradie may shed light on torso 'murder'

Queensland police hope a tradesperson or cleaner can shed light on the case of a man allegedly murdered and decapitated by his partner.

The charred torso of Sunshine Coast man George Gerbic, 66, was found by the side of a road at Cedar Pocket near Gympie in southeast Queensland last September.

His 56-year-old partner Lindy Yvonne Williams appeared in court on Friday charged with his murder.

Ms Williams has also been charged with misconduct with a corpse.

Detectives on Monday appealed to anyone who might have gone to the house the couple shared at Man Creek Road, Tanawha in the last 18 months to come forward.

"Investigators are appealing for anyone such as tradespeople, handy men, home cleaning agencies, earthmovers or pest services who may have attended the address in the last 18 months to contact police," they said in a statement on Monday.

The discovery of the headless remains, with arms severed at the elbows and nothing left below the rib cage, had police baffled for 10 months.

However, detectives were led to Mr Gerbic's house after investigating a trace of blood pressure medication found in his system.

Pharmacy records led officers to doorknock a number of houses in the area, including the retired real estate agent's home.

Wow I am glad they have finally identified the man but it is all a bit strange that not a single person reported him missing. Was he not close to anyone, even family? I have been sleuthing around as you do and Lindy has numerous FB profiles and seems to use different surnames.

Seeing pictures of Lindy posing with her family as if life couldn't be better. Didn't anyone ask where George was when she went out and he wasn't there? Did family stop over to visit and ask why he wasn't there? Was she living in his house and nobody thought anything of it for nearly year when they hadn't seen George? Also where on earth is the rest of George? What has she been telling everyone? Just astounding...and she almost would have gotten away with it all if she had been able to burn his torso completely or hadn't been seen disposing of it. Unbelievable...be interesting to see what comes out in the trial and if anyone else is arrested.

According to this court file, http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/aat/2013/664.html , George Gerbic had an unsuccessful case against the ATO for Capital Gains Tax, regarding the sale of a townhouse he purchased for his son in Mount Coolum. The court case concluded on September 17 2013 (his torso was discovered on 19th of September 2013). George Gerbic claimed 50% residency of the townhouse on the basis that it would stop his son from selling it 'on a whim'. George didn't live at the townhouse - but it was sold for a profit several years after purchase, and he was consequently lumped with the CGT bill for his 50% share of the property.

I have found several articles written by tax accountants about the Gerbic Capital Gains Tax case, basically on the topic of 'how not to buy a house for your children' - here is one such article: http://www.moneymanagement.com.au/analysis/investment/2013/paying-tax-when-selling-a-house

I'm guessing LE are already privy to this information...

Sunshine Coast murder victim George Gerbic’s ‘I’m OK’ emails ‘sent’ from the dead

July 28, 2014 12:00AM

FRIENDS and relatives of Sunshine Coast murder victim George Gerbic had been receiving emails they believed were from him, in the months after a headless torso was found near Gympie last September.

It is believed that messages, allegedly sent from Mr Gerbic’s email account, were received during the 10 months after police allege his remains were dumped and set on fire beside a semi-rural Gympie road.

The emails, which painted a picture that he was alive and well, would explain why relatives and friends were not concerned for his safety and no one had reported him missing for 10 months.

Gympie headless torso accused announced engagement to victim on Facebook

July 26, 2014

A SUNSHINE Coast woman accused of the gruesome headless torso murder had announced her engagement to the victim the same month she allegedly killed him.

Lindy Yvonne Williams, 56, is charged with the murder and dismemberment of George Gerbic, 66, a well-known retired real estate agent and LNP member

In the latest twist in the grisly crime, Ms Williams had updated her Facebook status to “Got Engaged” two weeks before the half-torso was found.

She also posted two photos of the couple and a photo of a gold bracelet with the comment: “Spoilt by George on my birthday” and a smiley face.

Fascinating case but so little information at present. Explained it to my OH. He was surprised, especially when he saw the photo of Lindy and George. How does a woman described as 'small, middle aged' in the media, murder and dismember a man described as thick set and anywhere between 180 and 190 cms? Did she shoot then dismember him? Did she pay someone else to do it?

Why was the torso dumped a few metres from a busy road? Was it payback by the killers because Lindy didn't continue paying blackmail?

If she didn't dump the torso there but was informed it had been dumped, she must have been in panic. What could she do? Even a torso would be very heavy, probably too heavy for a middle-aged woman to lift and put in her car. So she tried to burn it, right there on the side of the road in daylight? Surely she knew grass couldn't incinerate a human torso? All the burning grass would do would be to alert the council or fire-fighters. But it still took them ten months to find Lindy despite having a description of her and her car? Ten months of worrying every minute of the day would be enough to make most people run to the police to confess all they knew

Yet she stuck it out. Pretending all the while that George was alive but elsewhere? She has a lot more nerve than I. And she was living in his house the entire time? Surely she knew it was just a matter of time before the police knocked at the door?

But I still find it hard to believe she would or could have dismembered him herself. The police initially suspected it was a bikie murder, from some articles I've seen. Maybe George got on the wrong side of a deal and was killed? Or maybe Lindy put out a contract for George's death but couldn't keep up with the payments to the murderers? Or maybe the killers warned her they'd get her sons next if she gave them away? Or maybe they said they'd kill her next?

If Lindy killed George or even paid someone else to do it, why would she go to such lengths? Did she and George really get engaged? Maybe George wanted to break it off? Maybe he had another woman? Or maybe he wanted Lindy's money (if she had any, I don't know)

In the past these types of cases were quite uncommon, unfortunately it's becoming more common for women to murder and dismember their victims bodies.

Who could ever forget the very gruesome Katherine Knight case back in 2000. She decapitated her victim, cooked parts of his body and served all that up with vegies for her children's dinner.

Thanks, Marly, although I felt terrible when clicking 'thanks'. It seemed I was saying thank you for horror or endorsing it or something :-(

The other day, while trying to explain the Lindy Williams/George Gerbic case to my husband, I told him a little about Katherine Knight. He honestly went pale and silent. He'd never heard about it before. When he came home, he said it had been on his mind all day. I'm the same. Whenever I hear about that case, I recoil. Same with other gruesome murders. Apart from newspaper headlines back in the day, I've avoided everything connected with the Anita Cobby case - out of respect for one thing and because it's just too horrible to think about as happening to someone

I did read the article you linked above about the mother who killed her son and dismembered him. Beyond belief really, to do that to anyone, let alone the child you gave birth to, loved and raised. What happens to people? What are they thinking as they do it? And not as if it would only take ten minutes, either. What do they do afterwards - take a shower and go grocery shopping? How do they manage to live with what they've done? What makes them do it in the first place? I told myself the Knight woman became desensitized because of her job at the meat-works, but that explanation doesn't work in the other cases, so it's probably the wrong explanation

Yes, poor little Zarah. It stays in your mind forever, doesn't it. There was so much wrong with the way that case was handled, imo. It would take a lot to convince me the father had no knowledge when the house was so small

A PERSON found dead next to a road in southeast Queensland was likely murdered, police say.

Nooooo....really? You don't say!!?

Let's see...decapitated, other body parts removed, charred in a fire which appeared suspiciously lit...

Based on precedent in previous Queensland Police cases, I was expecting it to be declared a suicide.
