This photo shows a train crossing Hope Street just before Lux Way. I wonder if any trains passed around the time Jill went missing.

New here...Hi.

Just wanted to add a few things to timeline. Her face book says she was seen by a friend at Swanston street at 8pm on friday. It also says she was seen at 10pm at fad gallery.

:welcome3:

:wagon: special for Zepher because I am replying to their post :)

All the things on the timeline I made are from MSM quoted by police or Tom or someone that is verifiable. I am always wary of facebook comments because I don't know the person (i do hope those people tell the police that though)

Thanks for telling me though - if I get time I may had them in red or something until we know more :)

:welcome:Zepher! and thank you for the information!

We know the brother said he wanted to transfer phones and call her back from downstairs phone so as not to wake her father (although I find it surprising that he spoke to her for several minutes first before doing that).

If he told her he was going to call her back straight away, surely she would have had her phone out ready waiting to take the call rather than putting it away or switching it off etc.?

That indicates something happened immediately after she got off the phone to him that prevented her from accepting the call back.

Also I'm still not convinced re nothing going on at the time she made the phone call. Just because she didn't say it directly to her brother doesn't mean there wasn't anything else bothering her - and how would he know?

There was a post that said the last train at the two nearest stations (brunswick and anstey? I think they were) went through at 1.18 and 1.20am.

New here - am very worried about all the innuendo re why they weren't socialising together. At Jill's age I was newly married to my husband (still happily together 27 years later). I was a social, life of the party travel agent and he a reserved, introverted lawyer. Our worlds did not mesh socially - on Friday nights my life looked like Jill's - out with colleagues till the wee hours and walking home to Darlinghurst through the Cross. I knew my route well and thought I was safe because the streets were so busy.

:welcome: Tillysfarm! :welcome:

I am glad they are releasing more info. It shook me a bit that they returned twice to Jill's home given I am really confident in his innocence.

I can imagine a scenario whereby she is being followed and the perp waits for her to hang up her call to strike, even the few seconds it would take for her to look down to put her phone into her bag would make her that smidge more vulnerable.

I think it is very possible someone only guilty of intending to keep a discarded handbag would return it to close to where they found it, only out of sight. Any cash and the phone may have already been sold and spent. I hope if this is the case they come forward.

BBM

I agree with you about the handbag - I think someone picked it up where it had been dropped. That person panicked when he/she realized it belonged to Jill, and took the handbag back where he/she found it (keeping any money, phone, valuables). JMO

I hope this person comes forward, because he/she may have seen something or someone of interest to authorities.

I wonder why the police are delaying the release of the CCTV footage?

I agree. Surely if there is a chance she is still alive but held somewhere that they would release the footage without delay as it could help to save a life. Unless as someone has already suggested the police may be able to identify that mystery male themselves and are working on that right now.

They have to be sure that he is a person of interst, and not just a passerby.

If they can recognise him through facial recognition, of which they have the technology and databases (DFAT, RTAs, Centrelink etc..) they are better placed to locate him before they have to go public.

If he is involved, he may potentially be a flight risk if he sees his face up in lights.

A few further comments. Thank you to Keentoknow for insightful comments re predators/victims. IMO its best to be mindful about not blaming the victim for being attacked as many victims of rape and brutal assault will testify - from their own first hand experience, supported by Hospital staff, Police investigators/prosecutors and Health & Welfare Rape counsellors. To blame the victim is a serious lack of empathy and a form of emotional violence in my opinion.

It is well worth reading Clementine Ford's article in Daily life today for a fuller explanation of this point:Clementine Ford: Can we please stop the victim blaming?

Further John Silvester, Crime reporter, The Age informs us about how VPolice will rule in/rule out the mystery man caught in the CCTV footage:

"This morning, police confirmed that CCTV footage will be examined frame-by-frame to determine whether the man was following the ABC employee in the minutes before she disappeared."

"At present, police are trying to identify the man. A decision will be made later this morning as to whether CCTV footage, which shows Meagher walking north along Sydney Road, Brunswick, just south of Hope Street, at 1.41am, will be released to the public.

They have given their reasons. I think they will as soon as they are done with it. The fact that they are saying they are trying to identify him will hopefully bring someone forward that is innocent and the search continues or sends a guilty party into a panic. If police have suspicions already, this news may just be the news that causes mistakes to be made.

Another thing in that story that stood out to me was: Detective Inspector John Potter, from the homicide squad, said no conclusions should be reached from the police search of her home.
''[Jill's] husband has been nothing more than co-operative so we can't read anything into that. This is something that we would normally do,'' he said.

That to me says they don't have Tom on the radar at all.
