Michael Cardamone​, 50, on Friday pleaded guilty [/B to in the Supreme Court to murdering Whorouly mother Karen Chetcuti Verbunt​ in January last year.
He pleaded guilty to:
a) drugging a Victorian mother before
b) tying her up,
c) burning her alive and
d) driving over her with his car;
He also pleaded guilty to trying to incite another man (a covert operative) to murder Edward George, a man Cardamone had initially tried to blame for the murder.

What can we reasonably conclude from this guilty plea?........ quite a lot of things, or example
..... that the family isn't wasting any family money on a slow talking crack defence barrister to no good end. That is , regardless of the money thrown at a legal team, and pleading not guilty, is no guarantee of a pleasant outcome for Cardamone. The family and Cardamone have done all this before, invested 'hard earned' money in trying to achieve a positive result, invested money in trying to intimidate witnesses, etc . and still got a guilty verdict.
What monies are available for throwing down the greedy maw of the voracious legal shenanigans might well be being saved to spend on Mamma Cardamone's defence, although I tend to doubt this.. it's a huge investment for very little return, considering Mamma's age and health, the family may just let things take their course for Mamma without benefit of paid legal representation.
Once this halfwit entered into the Legal Aid arena, he was , barring a miracle, bound for a guilty plea, there is no way a panel of jurisprudence experts would spend state government and federal government money on a defence that didn't have a single redeeming factor to it.
It follows, that Mamma will plead guilty, because it will be assumed that she knew from the get go of her son's unarguable murderous actions that night and her actions then followed on from that knowledge. Two for the price of one, so to speak.
I still think Justice Lasry , one of my very firm favourite judges, ( he was pretty savage as a defence barrister also ) will still be presiding, and I think both trials will now take place in Wangaratta, since no jury is involved ( on the reasonable assumption that common sense will prevail and Mamma will do the same thing ) , there can be no apprehension of any local bias.
Although I am sure a huge bucketful of bias does certainly exist within the community , considering Cardamone's seemingly smooth process thru the parole system that saw him back on the streets in jig time, up to his revolting habits again.
It was a hideous crime, and Justice Lasry will detail it in excruciating filigreed embroidery at the Supreme Court at Wangaratta in due course, and I , depending on the date intend to be there, for no other reason except a woman was murdered , to satisfy the particular sexual demands of a known violent sexual deviate ,in her own home, after a days work, in a small town, by a vicious neighbor. Because it is appalling.

Cardamone’s parole was revoked in 2015 when he was charged with producing child *advertiser censored* offences – he spent four months in custody after he took a photo of a six-year-old girl baring her bottom at home.
But the charge was thrown out of Wangaratta Magistrates' Court when the magistrate ruled the photo was taken “in clearly a quite innocent manner”, not in a sexualised context.
well. Clearly, this magistrate had a peculiar view on the habits and mindset of sexual offenders , violent sexual offenders. Talk about living in a bubble, how could it possibly be even considered a 'quite innocent' pastime to photograph 6 yr old girls bare bottoms? What isn't perceived in a sexual context to a determined sexual offender? wherever the situation was... And since it seems the 6yr old's guardian was the complainant, on behalf of the child, what on earth was the magistrate thinking?
That all the criminal acts that Cardamone was imprisoned for were mere silly jokes, meaningless and clearly, obviously of a playful nature to those sophisticated enough to be unfazed by them?.
Some magistrates really need to get their heads out of their backsides and see matters clearly and straight without all the deep denial.

The guilty plea enabled the Herald Sun to reveal that the convicted rapist should not have been free to kill Ms Chetcuti, after failing a drug test while on parole for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
According to the Herald Sun, the drug test led to an inspection of his phone, where child *advertiser censored* was discovered.
He is the latest in a long line of Victorian killers to have murdered while on parole for previous crimes, including Adrian Bayley, the high profile rapist and murderer of ABC staffer Jill Meagher, and Steven Hunter, a convicted murderer who killed 22-year-old Sarah Cafferkey in 2012, just 10 days after his parole for kidnapping ended.
Ballarat mother Sharons Siermans was bashed to death in front of her young son by parolee rapist Jason John Dinsley in 2013, and Raechel Betts was murdered and dismembered in August 2009 by three-time killer and parolee John Leslie Coombes, 56.
While Victorian parole laws were tightened in 2013 in response to this string of deaths, they apparently did not stop Cardamone going on to kill his neighbour.

i googled it. It's hydrochloric acid and it's so common many murderers do this along with bashing and torturing. Aghhh!

No doubt , the battery acid thing was the subject of many long and dreamy afternoon discussion's in prison, passing the time of day. And he would have had his 'killing kit' already tucked away, the battery acid, the firelighters, the cable ties, the odd and indescribably artifacts he required to satisfy his cravings, all neatly packed and ready.
The over all plan, too. While not perfect, it was not spontaneous , only the victim, and probably not that, either, when it all boils down to gravy.. Karen was so accessible. She would have had an easily read routine, and talk about luck! a single woman living right next door, just across the paddock, why , you can see her bedroom light from your back porch.... no one sees you quietly stroll across the paddock in the dark ... thru the fence and voila!..
In my theory, Cardamone puts the hard word on Karen, naturally, he a single man, her a single woman, in his mind that's all it should take for sexual congress to take place, and she probably laughed, as I would have. He looks so absurd. But that was all it probably took to seal her fate. She doesn't mention it to anyone as it isn't a good look to have your crazed demented neighbor propositioning you. Or, perhaps, your daughter. .
Of course, this time , Cardamone will be among the hard men, the lifers, your Denehey's , your Farquarhsons, your Bailey's, your Hunter's, your leftover idiots of the Carl Williams and Moran gangs, etc . all bored stupid and itching for fresh meat, and Cardamone isn't the sharpest knife in the draw by a long chalk, so he will probably become the goat of the lifer pod , nothing could be more apt than that.
