The only thing that keeps me in check (not throwing a fit) is being contented in the knowledge that the crusty old woman's days on Earth are numbered.

... She showed no emotion as Judge Gerard Mullaly handed down the sentence..., but locked eyes with Tony Chetcuti, the former husband of Karen Chetcuti (nee Verbunt)...
Judge Mullaly accepted the prosecutions submission that she was just a conduit for the money and did not know it was intended as payment for the murder of Mr George.
... on the day of her arrest, May 4, she was assessed by neurologist Nola Ross who found signs of the early onset of dementia....
Judge Mullaly said ... as a first offender at your advanced age, you are entitled to ask for and receive a measure of mercy.
Maria Cardamone was released into the care of her daughter, with the intention that she would go to Melbourne to live at an aged-care facility.
Karen's ex husband & children, her sister, family & friends are still traumatized by the horrific circumstances of her death. Ms Chetcutis former husband Tony Chetcuti said he was bitterly disappointed with the sentence and the fallout would never really be over for his family.

Sadistic parolee killer Michael Cardamone could use Victorian taxpayers' money to appeal against his life sentence for the brutal murder of his neighbour Karen Chetcuti.
Cardamone made an application to Victorian Legal Aid in September, but it was initially refused so that a court could decide if VLA needed to be compelled to represent him.
The 50-year-old was jailed for life with no minimum term in August for a murder the court described as "extraordinarily vicious".
Supreme Court Judge John Forrest on Friday refused to force Victorian Legal Aid into representing the murderer, but said it was still open for the organisation to provide its services.
"VLA can, and should, make up its own corporate mind as to whether or not to grant Mr Cardamone assistance," he said in his ruling.

A wise move , punting the ball back to Legal Aid.. it would have been a PR disaster, and a political hot potato had the judge decreed that Cardamone be granted aid.
LA will no doubt have panel after panel discussing, never agreeing, checking out all avenues etc, right up until Cardamone draws his last breath. .. I hope.

Cardamone's lawyer Dermot Dann QC agreed in the Court of Appeal today that the murder was horrific. He's not contesting the life sentence.
But Mr Dann is challenging the failure of Justice Lasry to mention he was considering an indefinite prison term.
That meant Cardamone's lawyer at the time wasn't given a chance to consider and potentially address the court on similar NSW cases in which parole had been denied.
He also argued inadequate weight was given to Cardamone's guilty plea, questioning the incentive for people to plead guilty if there was no visible discount for doing so.

I’ll say what happened to Karen was one of the most horrendous deaths in Australian history. After what this animal did to her, she was burnt alive.
