GUILTY Australia - Lisa Harnum, 30, killed in 15-story fall, Sydney, 30 July 2011 #4

She looks and sounds like a fool. I know I'm biased but my 13 year old son, who hasn't heard of the case before, is sitting here picking every word she says to pieces. If she can't convince a 13 year old .....

Out of the mouths of babes ....

I'm really torn.

On one hand I am so frustrated by her. Surely she isn't this stupid. She can't actually believe the garbage she is spouting. On the other hand, her partner is an abusive murderer and she is probably brainwashed, so I feel sorry for her too. At least he can't physically harm her while he's behind bars. She is safe and that is really important. I have no doubt that he would kill again if anyone dared not to obey him.
Arghh ....
Surely she isn't this stupid?

As soon as I saw Rachelle getting down on the floor to demonstrate how Simon would not have been able to pick Lisa up. I thought, what the heck would she be doing on the floor? He had her standing up when he dragged her into the apartment. I laughed at the pitiful attempt demonstrated by the reporter. What a joke. It looked so ridiculous trying to lift her up, he had no idea where to put his hands.

I have read the new spiel on the free Simon Gitanny page. I wonder who is writing it. He is potrayed as a saint. Helps his mates out by pleading guilty to drug charges that weren't his.
All his good works that he does. Police pretending to be his friends, Wow.. the explanation for how that happened was a real doozy.

His Catholic religion... I am a Catholic and in my opinion he is breaking all the commandments. He has conned everyone up until Lisa's murder.

Is that supposed to be a photo on the site of him dressed in the Maronite priest's garb? Sorry, but I want to puke. JMOO

Good Post Marg from OZ.
I too, did not see any evidence showing how a man (with or without highly charged adrenaline effect) might pick up a person from a standing position (NOT LYING ON FLOOR position) and offload that person from a balcony of any height.
Still waiting for explosive new evidence.....
PS 69 Seconds doesn't allow much time for other events to intercede ......

let Rachel blag on for months.... she , and the <modsnip> sisters, ruined all possibility of Gittany being considered for any possibility of rehabilitation, and she is well on track for completely scuppering any faint , one in a million chance of his appeal reducing his sentence by so much as a New York minute.

Her website is the thing of teenage adulation. A mishmash of hyper-idiocy and pseudo-science that reveals the writer as an intellectual dunce.

No one can be safeguarded in prison all the time,.. It just isn't possible.. If he is a marked man in prison , there is no more dangerous environment.... gee.. what a worry.

Mummy & Daddy

I have been wondering what Rachelle's parents are really like.

Is Rachelle an only child?

Do they live in Sydney?

I wonder what their moral values and ethics are like?

I cannot imagine that a parent would support a daughter to support her murdering boyfriend let alone defend him in the way that she has, lend him the money for his legal costs and set up a website for her in support of him to be set free.

But they say on the website freesimon.org that the $150,000 is not for his future appeal costs, it is to repay money already lent to Simon for his current legal fees. I guess that could be why Rachelle's father set up this website too. The father probably had a vested interest in getting back the money he had already lent Simon so he could have encouraged Rachelle to do the Sunday interview or even approached them with the idea.

Simon Gittany’s lover Rachelle Louise has shown little compassion for tragic Lisa Harnum’s family, now it’s time to show some respect for the dead, writes Sarrah le Marquand

Great article, I won't snip bits and pieces because the whole thing is worth reading.

I also think it is a great article. People who incapable of showing empathy for others are usually narcissists.

So two of a feather flock together re Simon and Rachelle.

this is the evidence in the Daniel Morcombe trial. An age difference between Daniel & Lisa applies but I think this is relevant with the choke hold.
‘‘There’s so many different possibilities: whether bleeding has occurred, whether the airway is compromised, whether in fact the pressure has actually caused problems with the blood vessels and the nerves,’’ Dr Ellis said.
‘‘I don’t think you can say damage to [the front of the neck] is the point of no
However, Dr Ellis said force applied in a ‘‘twisting or bending motion’’ to a child’s neck could cause death.
‘‘Martial arts experts will tell you that it’s probably quite easy to do if you know how to do it,’’ he said.
‘‘You don’t necessarily have to apply a huge amount of force, but whatever force you apply would have to be applied in the right way.’’
He added a person could lose consciousness in as little as 10 to 15 seconds, although it would typically take four minutes for irreversible brain damage to occur.

Good find TGY. In addition, the Police interviewed by Sunrise (earlier post) stated that when they "put an arm around Gittany's neck to drag him backwards, they were careful to leave his airway open". IMO they infer that if someone is dragged backwards with an arm around their neck and their airway was suppressed, that would be detrimental to the victim.

re: profiteering from crime

No crime is "victimless".

As we tax paying public and companies pay for our govt run justice system including police, detectives, judges and public servants, I hope any monies made in payment to those who gain notoriety or profit from any crime, including those who bring about payment, ....e.g. channel 7 for exclusive "rights" payment and sponser ship /advertising slots re: SG/LH case. .., other than for general public free-to-air reporting or tabloid news services and/or community awareness,..... would be made to said victims; victim's family, or back into the govt. Justice systems.

I acknowledge that a percentage of my income tax must be supporting some part of our penal system, where people the likes of SG are languishing over the next 18 years. I wonder if I will pay for his rehabilitation and anger management program, so when he is released no later than 26 years time, he will no longer pose a threat to anyone again.

I will continue to work and pay tax along, with raising my two little future tax payers, in the hope that my hard earned taxpayer dollar is spent wisely.

In an alternate world, Team Gittarny, donates $150,000 to Australian Penal System's Rehabilitation Program.

Agree Blackpanther. My opinion is that RL, her family or any of the convicted murderer's family should not be permitted to profit from this crime. If they put finances forward to support Gittany, that was their choice to do so. Effectively Channel 7 have reimbursed their finances.

Given that the Australian Federal Police have issued search warrants against Channel 7 for any lucrative shows signed by the Corby family on about Shapelle's release, under The Proceeds of Crime Act, then I would like to see the AFP act to investigate any proceeds of crime in the Gittany case as well. IMHO.http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/na...-schapelle-corby/story-fni0xqrb-1226830274291

A little off topic but I see Ch7 had some visitors this morning....

THERE were “heated scenes” at Channel Seven’s Sydney headquarters this morning as the offices were raided by the Australian Federal Police searching for anything relating to convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby.

Is channel 7 paying for Chapelle and her sister's accommodation in the expensive lodgings in Bali? Would this constitute profiting from a crime?
Wonder if their accounts payable department will be searched for the accommodation bill?

The network has also reportedly paid for Corby to stay in the luxury Sentosa Seminyak resort in Bali, where Willesee is also staying.
Woman's Day claims Corby was escorted to her hotel by private security guards hired by Seven, and news crews have since stationed themselves outside.

huge coincidence mike Willesse is at the same resort. C'mon! I'm sure he's being paid to be there.

Channel 7 doesn't like bully tactics like barging into offices? TURNAROUND EH?

:jail: back to jail?

Security to make sure the other paparazzi don't get any photos in.

The father is an idiot too.

It's a form of gambling to be betting on whether SG can be acquitted AND/OR going for any wrongful conviction compensation.

According to Wikipedia:

Furthermore, unless the father and SG had a contract (written or verbal) to repay the money, the father may not be reimbursed. Yes, I think SG is the sort of jerk who wouldn't pay back a loan.

It would be the most frustrating gamble too. The longer he stays in, the bigger the payoff but it's still a debt until the day that happens. Personally, I hate owing debts and I hate it when people owe me - it grates on my nerves. The loss of psychological well-being on that would not be worth it for me.

This is an interesting link (http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/current series/tandi/341-360/tandi356/view paper.html) where the second paragraph after the blurb is:

"Currently, most Australian jurisdictions are not generous, nor are they transparent, in awarding compensation. Many wrongfully convicted people in Australia do not get any compensation, do not get their legal fees paid for, and the reasons for decisions as to whether or how much to compensate them are never disclosed."

Simon Gittany's girlfriend, Rachelle Louise, was filming a television interview at her home while her boyfriend was being sentenced for murder last week because she "didn't want to go".

“I think he will be so upset that I didn’t go,” she said. “But you know what: I supported him every single day he went.

Wow! I've just noted this incongruity:

Why did RL not appear in court?

RL says:

"I think he will be so upset that I didn't go," she told Channel Seven's Sunday Night program in the interview, which was broadcast last night. "But, you know what, I supported him every single day I went. Just today was for me. I didn't want to go."

However: The video belonging with this news clip (I am unable to add the link) has a good deal more to say:

RACHELLE Louise, the girlfriend of convicted balcony killer Simon Gittany, has revealed she will only stay with her boyfriend for five years and then wants to start a family of her own.

*"The reason behind her absence was said to be a rumoured $150,000 pay cheque from Channel Seven for an exclusive interview."*

Appears this is part of a deal regarding the paid interview. Silence for some weeks following the interview.
This is the same reason that the Harnum family were unable to speak publically last week.

According to my understanding, that is two completely different versions of events explaining the no show by RL.

One minute she is explaining her version, whilst failing 100% to state the other real reason!
Bit like her interview, if you know what I mean.
