Sex offenders questioned in search for missing Bung

HOMICIDE detectives have expanded their investigation into a missing Melbourne schoolgirl to include checking the alibis of 200 registered sex offenders.

Police fear 13-year-old Siriyakorn "Bung" Siriboon was abducted or killed while on her way to school on June 2, around 8.30am (AEDT).

Seven months later her unsolved disappearance remains Victoria's most baffling of the year.

There's not enough about Bung in the media at all! Granted I do not listen to much MSM apart from what I see via social media and when in the car on the radio. I first heard one mention of her around the 6 month mark, and that's it. I live in Melbourne.

Was her disappearance on the nightly news when it first happened?

I just went back and read some info on Mr Cruel. It's been 20 years, and the witnesses put him at 35 to 40 years old back when the four abductions occurred, from adult witnesses too who can probably judge it fairly accurately. His crimes escalated from breaking in and assaulting the victim in her home to abduction and murder. I can't find any info on the prior string of assaults which I assume were not home invasions, when he was dubbed the Hampton Rapist. Found one reference here : http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...DlWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=UukDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6607,1018608 but unsure if it is related.

The police say he may have stopped because he was interviewed and got nervous, or because killing Karmein was a necessity if she had escaped her blindfold, and the gravity of the crime stopped him. The crimes sound very controlled and he was meticulous so perhaps he was able to just stop.

Mr Cruel would be pushing 60 and perhaps not as keen to take on a protective father, gun or not. He may not have the gun any more - in 1996 there was the gun buyback, it might have been an opportune time to be rid of it, guaranteed it would be destroyed. So if he has decided to offend again, taking a girl off the street might be easier for him now.

I hope they are working Bung's case as diligently as Mr Cruel was investigated.

Thanks for updating Bung's thread. I was heartened to read 12 detectives are working on her disappearance fulltime.

Family pleads for news on Bung

THE stepfather of Siriyakorn “Bung” Siriboon renewed his plea for information on her disappearance last week.

At a media conference last Friday to mark the first anniversary of Bung’s disappearance, Fred Pattison said the family still believed the Boronia schoolgirl was alive and “not far away” but “she’s not able to come home at the moment”.

Wow, a sighting reported 12 months on! Not sure what to make of that. Why wouldn't they say so earlier?

Breakthrough in Bung case

[snip]

But new information suggests Bung was seen walking in Harcourt Rd, had crossed Paisley Ave and was heading towards Moncoe St about 8.55am that morning.

Det Insp John Potter, from the Homicide Squad, wouldn't reveal how or when they got the information but said it now placed Bung within 130m of a back entrance to the school.

He said the new information was of "significant interest" to investigators and police would now focus their attention on those streets.
