I'm asking whether you'd make an exception where the citizen can't be expected to know the interlocutor is a police officer.

RSBM

I think most people who have done nothing wrong wouldn't mind being recorded, unknowingly, by a police officer. Done nothing wrong, don't dislike the police, what's the objection?

It is only the people who have done something wrong, people who dislike the police, and perhaps a few civil libertarians, who would object to being unknowingly recorded. Which is not the kind of people that we don't want recorded. The police need protection, too.

Yes, change the laws. imo

Thanks again, RubyHill. Good podcast.
I won't speak yet about anything contained in it, because it is early and many members will not have listened to it yet.

I wonder when the next episode will be released?
I'm not sure when I'll get to listen to it and I'd love to hear your summary as soon as you're ready. I don't have feelings about 'spoilers' but of course I can't speak for others.

Without revealing too many spoilers, I can say that the podcast gives a complete more-detailed overview of the journey to FGM's house, the stops along the way (police verification of that), the evening when they arrived, the sleeping arrangements and why, what one of the first things FGM said to them was (my washing machine has been taken apart, you won't be able to do washing, the part has been ordered, who knows when he will just show up to fix it), and the full activities the following morning ... prior to Willliam's disappearance, prior to and including the complete silence.

They did say that they will speak in another episode about Jubes charges.

Apologies if this is a spoiler in any way.
Two things that stood out to me initially....the FGM told the FFC that the washing repairman wouldn't call because that's not how things were done around there. He would just turn up when he had the part. So there was no appointment on that day or any other because she expected him to just turn up at any time. And the FFC seeing the grey green sedan driving down the road whilst she was with the older sister. She says she doesn't see the occupants so I am confused where the sandy haired large man who looks at her and she looks at him comes into this. Did I miss something perhaps?

[QUOTE="JLZ, post: 15170643, member: 117137" I'm asking whether you'd make an exception where the citizen can't be expected to know the interlocutor is a police officer. I don't mean the police officer should break cover at the crucial point! I mean, be organized and get a warrant first, as I'm sure those who trapped Cowan did.[/QUOTE]
snipped for focus.
as a very boring law abiding citizen I truly couldn't care less whether I was or I wasn't.

in fact in this day and age EVERYBODY is loaded up with recording devices be it dash cams andor mobile phones.
I promise you the second you opened your mouth with something unsavoury some douche bag you didn't even know was around has recorded it.

times are a changin.

I was confused about that too. She said she couldn’t see the occupants ??

Perhaps there were four cars then? Or the grey-green one seen driving might also have been the grey or silver parked car? I wouldn't have thought 'teal' was the same colour as 'grey-green'. If there were two cars seen driving, that might explain the inconsistency on the time, that in some reports it appeared that the car was seen shortly after 9, and in others a little before 10:30.

@JLZ
just to point out the opposite point you made (which I see the perspective )

I am following a case in America where two teenage girls were murdered, now one of the girls managed to sneaky video with audio her killer as he was approaching them.
she is hailed a hero by LE for doing this.

now my point is she didn't have her killers permission to take this footage but she did the right thing.

the rest if the point is here is a detective doing his work and been demonized and pushed from the force for doing exactly the same thing.

its ridiculous in this day and age these charges against a police officer.

I agree, damned if you do and damned if you don’t .

I'd see them as completely different things, with a reversal of the position of power. We don't need to argue it; I appreciate you clarifying what I asked.

Oh, I missed the part about the green/grey car or teal car. Will have to listen again when I have the spare 39 minutes.

On a side note, support for Jubes in the petition has now reached over 6,800 people. The public are speaking.
From what I have read from a lot of SM pages, many have felt that there has been something off about this case from day one and think that GJ has been sidelined because he was getting close to the truth of solving this case. Not my opinion but one shared by many out in internet land and I would say would be one of the reasons they are signing the petition.

Yes, I am aware that some feel that way. I have also read some of the truly vicious, nasty comments.

I guess we will wait and see what the 'popular' vote is.

Strange, though, if they feel that Jubes was getting closer to 'their' truth, they would want the charges against Jubes not to be dropped. Kinda goes against 'their' truth coming out, if that's the case. (Saying their, because I want to highlight that it is not our truth.)
