This is a hoot!
Jeffs' vehicle was stopped on Interstate 15 for having a temporary Colorado license tag that wasn't easily readable, FBI and Nevada Highway Patrol officials said.

John E. Lewis, special agent in charge of the FBI Phoenix division, said the trooper became suspicious when Jeffs identified himself as John Findley using a contact lens receipt from Florida as identification.

I am so so glad this guy is behind bars. The sad thing is that the cult he heads up is still fully functional. I want to make it clear that I am not talking about the LDS faith but of the "spinoff" cult that Jeffs was leading.

To think they got him in Sin City....how appropriate!

lol--julia you are correct--many criminals are caught that way--Joel Rifkin, who murdered 17 hookers, was pulled over for no license plates--cops found a dead prostitutein his car--Ted Bundy was pulled over for speeding or something in Colorado, then escaped jail and killed again(another low moment in Colo criminal history)--but he didn't escape here in Florida and we executed his sorry azz--we deal with scum the right way down here

Peter, I went to FSU. I was "rushed" by Tri Delta Sorority. I knew the house. It was before Bundy, but it still gives me shivers. He was executed for the little girl he killed after the Tri Delta killings if I remember.

As to Jeffs, I read "Under the Banner of Heaven" by John Krakauer and knew about this cult. It's an intersting book and well worth the read. I know the author had commented on his recent activities in Colorado.

I recommend the book for great background

This cop recognized him right off and asked him if he was in fact Jeff. That is impressive.
Impressive, indeed. Kudos to the quick thinking cop who recognized him! Happy to know that sicko is off the street. Doesn't seem like he is too bright either in a bright red Escalade with temporary, illegible plates.

Taking this away from JBean

and tossing it in the trash! :D

heeheeehee I just saw your Raider statement. Sorry Just could not resist.

I was just half watching LKL and the lady who escaped from this group when she was 14 said she loved that he was in a red escalade because they are not supposed to wear or use the color red in the religion de Jeff.

They should drop leaflets with colored pictures, discription of the arrest and ALL the charges, since the followers don't watch tv or listen to radio....

The problem with polygamists is that the vst majority can't support their families and turn into welfare sops of the nth magnitude. In countries/cultures where polygamy is allowed its considered a crime to take a wife you can't support.
You don't hear much about polyandry. though--that's when there's one wife and multiple husbands.
Perish the thought. Why would we want to have to pick up the smelly socks of one than one man? :D

Hooray for Officer Eddie Dutchover!

Upon searching the car, officers found $54,000 in cash, 15 cell phones, four laptops and three wigs.

This is a really good time in Flora Jessop's life:

Flora Jessop escaped the sect as a teenager

"I was married at 16 to my first cousin," Jessop said. "I was given the choice of marrying him or going to a mental institution for life. They routinely lock up women who rebel."

Flora Jessop biog:

I have vowed to stop this injustice and am now focusing on demanding that a federal prosecutor be named to intervene on behalf of these neglected children.

Fate of polygamy sect unclear as leader held

"He's going to be a martyr, " agreed Brigham Fischer, 33, another FLDS exile who now lives in Macon, Ga.

Sadly, this is NOT the end. :(

More regarding the sect:

FLDS MEMBER'S TRIAL: Polygamist gets jail

45-day sentence for sex with minor called too lenient

"How can the victims come forward when the people who are harming them are sent back into the home to continue today what they were doing yesterday," Jessop said before Fischer's sentence was imposed. "What strength do the victims have to come forward?"

Life and times of Warren Jeffs

While polygamy is illegal in the US, the authorities have reportedly been reluctant to confront the FLDS for fear of sparking a situation similar to the 1993 siege of the Branch Davidian sect in Waco, Texas, which led to the deaths of about 80 members.

Flora Jessop calls the sect the Talleban of America. i'd be inclined to agree with her.

another thing is Eldorado was chosen for its close proximity toe the Mexican border and sure as eggs are eggs, girls are being ferried back and two btween a polygamist group in Mexico and Warren Jeff's group in America. you can see a picture of the extraordinary construction of the temple in Eldorado in the above link. chilling.

Wow, that's great. Las Vegas??? That's an interesting place for him to be picked up. Good for the cop for recogonizing him.

Do you think he was trying to squeeze in a few more weddings before the tighter marriage license restrictions go into effect on 9/1?

What I don't understand is why wasn't the people with him arrested also, they should be guilty of harbouring a fugitive. I am pretty sure that if I was tooling around with someone on the FBI's 10 most wanted list that I'd be seeing the inside of a jail!

If I remember correctly, Las Vegas is full of Mormons. Remember that Howard Hughes had Mormon bodyguards. His thinking was they were reliable family men. Many are employed by the casinos. It's their reputation for reliability and honesty I think.

BarnGoddess, wow so you were at FSU before Bundy, and you knew the Sorority house he invaded?----authorities today are still trying to figure out how he got in there that night--any ideas?

If I'm not mistaken, there was a door on the side that opened onto the steps leading upstairs. He was reportedly quite a man about the campus, and may have been there and scouted it out. I know he supposedly left by that door. The murders took place very late after everyone was in for the night and asleep. Whether that door was unlocked, I'm not sure.

I am glad they have arrested him, and I do believe he is an evil little man. But I also do believe that his followers will make a martyr out of him. And while this may slow him down, it won't stop what is going on. The leadership trained by him will take over and try to keep status quo, or will stay in contact with him and follow his orders.
The only good thing that might come out of this is that another ambitious man may decide to challenge him for the leader role, and that will cause enough in-fighting that they can be taken down from the inside.

That part of the Bundy story was not an easy read. He was such an animal in our society......Such a freak of nature. Those poor girls.
Warren Jeffs........they just(Fox) said there will be problems that a warrant wasn't gotten before the car search. Oh my..........was he not on the 10 Most Wanted next to Osama? Also, it is going to be hard to get people to talk from the compound. They are so threatened by the other members. The witnesses may have to go in the witness protection program. I really hope that they are not so brainwashed as to not finally speak up. Some will be diehards to their cause.......others might just feel "saved".......I hope they finally are saved and free...........

No doubt...that's a good one. He's probably a "closet-Elvis" fan...and was heading to the Elvis Chapel.

What a sicko....it's just so great that he was stopped the way he was. And I heard someone say that "red" was taboo to them...and there he is...in his RED car. At least they caught him...
