Landfill searched for clues into missing 2-year-old boy

PRESCOTT, AZ - Authorities searched a landfill in northern Arizona this week, looking for clues into last weekend's disappearance of a 2-year-old boy who was camping with family friends.
http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/regio...for-clues-into-2-year-old-boy's-disappearance

My dh drives by the landfill every day on his way to work (he has worked on their CAT machines too, so he knows several employees). We figured they were searching for Sylar there when the entire area was surrounded with crime tape & they had an armed YCSO officer sitting at the gate. They were there for 3 days and the entire parking lot was FILLED with YCSO cars & county vehicles. He said the place looked busier than a bee hive, there were so many people bustling about.

According to our trash guy, service was diverted to another landfill while they searched it.

DH wanted to take a picture but the deputy at the gate made it clear that was a big :nono:

I wonder if they found anything.

FWIW, now that we hear that a child was the one who called the Sedona Fire Department (more than likely on a cell phone) and that call was dropped we can hear exactly how little information that child was able to give the Fire dept. before the call was dropped.

IMHO the only thing the Fire department could have done was to call back the number of the cell, and hope that a connection came through. I don't see them not doing their job. JMHO.

Being a 911 operator I transfer calls constantly throughout my tour. The FD knew the location and knew a person was missing. When you transfer a call you identify yourself and say im transfering you a call. If a call is disconnected you say there a missing at cedar creek and give them the persons cell #.. A cop should have been dispatched regardless. This is a total screwup. IMO

Its very frustrating when parents tell there kids to call 911. If they don't have the info you tell them to put your parents on the phone. Sometimes the parents don't speak english so they have their kids call.

But after 20min and LE hadn't showed up you would think the C.Mom would have called back or her mother. Very very strange.

I wonder if this child was wearing PJ's. I would love to know.

Prayers for this little sweet angel is found. So sad.

Goodnight

He was only wearing a diaper.

OK guys I have been reading here all day, but this is my first post on this thread....Here is one of my theories...You have 3 girls and three boys all camping together I can see a gender split being done as to who is sleeping in what tent, that would put Sylar in the tent with the 2- 14 year old boys...

(I am going off topic for a bit now, We camped every single weekend as I grew up, not in tents but camping none the less, I was always allowed to bring a Friend with me when we went...It was not at all uncommon when I was 14 for me and my friend to sneak away late at night once my parents were down for the night so we could smoke pot and cigarettes)

Ok back to Skylar I can imagine that if these boys did the same thing that I always did they would either need to take Skylar with them while they snuck off or leave him in the tent alone....If they took him with them something could have happened to him and they either alerted CP and she has someone come and pick up the body, I hate to even type that....Or if he was left alone in the tent that would have been the perfect opportunity for someone to lead him out of the tent...Therefore there would be a scent and then pick him up and carry him off therefore there would be no scent....If the boys took Skylar with them they also could have picked him up once they got out of the tent and therefore the scent was gone.....Now lets say they left him alone and the boys came back to the tent around 1:45 and noticed that Skylar was gone they alerted CP to see if he was in her tent and then all hell broke loose, CP would not want to admit that the boys had left him alone and therefore she is covering for them....What do you think?

Check the landfill search pictures, the one picture I counted at least 14 or more searching. This article sounds like the search isn't over at the landfill?

They are finished searching the landfill from what we can tell. DH drives by Grey Wolf every day and as of Friday, it was business as usual. The YCSO & county vehicles were gone this morning when we went by. The armed deputy was gone Thursday night when dh went by.

There were definitely more than 14 people searching. The first day, dh saw dozens of people in those white suits in the parking lot (getting briefed maybe?) and the parking lot was overflowing with government vehicles.

Kimmer, I dont know what to think. Sounds just as good as any other theory.

I personaly like Lovejac's happy ending story the best but it is becoming rather apparent that it is not going to be the case.

I am really getting tired of these children becoming victims of people and at this point giving the reasonable options I am really hoping he didnt get lost in the woods and suffer slowly and alone until his breaking point. I can honestly say I have never ever hoped a child was abducted up until this point but I think it is Sylar's best chance for being alive. Ironic huh?

Thanks Savmom. I felt if that picture had 14 it had to be larger. Nice to have eyes there. Thank you and your DH!

Yavapai County sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said Saturday that authorities have searched the Gray Wolf Landfill for anything that might help them find 2-year-old Sylar Newton.

Deputies still were searching for him Saturday, looking for evidence at the landfill and investigating family members. No suspects have been named.

D'Evelyn said there are custodial issues involving the boy, his adoptive family and the boy's biological mother, and some of them have taken lie-detector tests. He did not know the results of those tests.

He said the possibility that a wild animal may have gotten to Sylar was ruled out after a tracker with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service searched the area surrounding the campground, found no evidence of large predatory animals and said that such an attack would have left a lot of blood behind.

That is exactly what I was feeling, don't know if the loss of that half hour or longer would have helped him, but S.O. dispatch should not have been unadvised.

and shifting gears, seems that they are exuding alot of manpower and manpower hours on the landfill, I would guess they have an idea of what they are looking for. I don't think its just the body, I think they are looking for something to substantiate something they are onto.

I just can't get past the believability of a child opening a tent zipper and getting out on his own (without being heard).

Almost every other weekend, I can be found camping 30 miles away from this place. Although we have an RV now, it wasnt long ago that we spent our evenings in tents. One major rule was the tent door be zipped up at all times.

You would be amazed by at how quickly bugs/spiders and other creepy crawlys find their way in a tent especially now with our monsoon season.... everything is out in the evening trying to mate.

Unless someone is used to living in filthy conditions and/or they were bombed off their a$sses, that tent zipper would have been closed tight.

All the tents I've owned had two layers on the doors - so even if we had the outer layer tied back for ventilation - the bug netting was always zipped tight. Like you - can't image small child getting up in the dark, making it to entrance, finding zipper, and wandering off without being heard,

 That bold part is odd. Either they scaled down the search at Grey Wolf or the newspaper worded that funny because the parking lot only had a couple civilian cars all day today and the armed deputy is gone from the entrance (we drove by there several times while running errands/going to work).

I REALLY pray they don't find any evidence there.

I wonder what caused them to search there in the first place. :waitasec:

Edited to add:

This link has a little more info that may explain the reason they left Gray Wolf:

Although no critical information was immediately discovered, this effort will continue as additional loads are isolated

Looks like they may have to wait for the landfill guys to find the rest of the trash from the campground before they can continue.

http://www.facebook.com/sylernewton

this is the link to the search for sylar page where admin folks are requesting that people print fliers and post them to keep his story alive.

I find it interesting reading the posts this a.m. - there seems there are some folks asking some pointed questions about why the story changes and why we don't see ''tina'' in the news anymore.

This entire case is just so sad, and scary. I pray they find little Sylar safe. :rose:

I agree Sylar may have been in the tent with the 2 boys...also could have been some drinking going on (CP and her mom) there so no one noticed he ran off prior to them all crashing in the tent. these are just theories on course. it is odd CP or her mom isnt speaking out publically to try to find him. The 911 call pisses me off that the person who got the initial call and the call disconnected that they didnt try to find out more. i personaly think that person need to be in trouble for that. That could have been the moments they found him if he truly did wander off. Plus if CP truly had a bad feeling about the hispanice guy why didn't she report it...or at the very least keep a closer watch on the kids. That should have raised her awareness that something was up. All the what if's but sylar is still missing. =( I think CPS should really look into CP and determine if she was receiving any benefits for her children then why take on someone elses. Also the biomom states she suffers from depression..If these people don't want their kids then quit having them and make sure who you give them to isn't in the same boat your in financially!

I agree. I can't see a 2 y/o unzipping the tent so quietly that it wouldn't awaken the adults in the tent, one of whom was apparently a light sleeper to say she last saw him in the tent at 12:30am and awoke again at 1:45am and found him missing. MOO

Whoa.... extremely interesting comments section at the end of this article...

I am really glad you posted this.
It is a public link with rumors I want to make that clear because I am posting thought on rumors.
IMO.
If the woman is as crazy as that person makes her sound this S person. She very could well be a suspect. Also all the information would be known to LE within a day or two .Tina not speaking to the media could very well be becaue she suspects this person as well. Of course the issue then is did Tina really want to adopt Sylar or was she doing what she had to to keep him from a worse place. or did Tina and/or her family set out to get Charity messed up on drugs so they could get thier hands on Sylar? Just thoughts on these rumors.
