So can we finally expect the elaborate story of what happened that she's been working on for the past couple of weeks?

And when is someone going to tell TS that he's on his own and it's time to start talking?

MOO

I hope TS is reading the papers .. or someone is reading them to him, if they are in Indonesian. Though maybe the police-appointed lawyer will tell him about these new developments, and that will get TS talking.

I would hope that he'd at least have the opportunity to speak with someone from the US consulate who could inform him that whatever he thinks is appropriate based on US law will not hold up in Bali and that he should co-operate with the police and his appointed lawyer to get the best possible outcome for himself. Not sure if he's had a chance to speak with his own family back in the US and whether they are also trying to arrange for a different lawyer for him though.

I hope LE drops us some hints about the internet searches HM & TS did at the so called "budget" hotel near the airport. Those internet searches/activity have got to be an interesting window into their thinking just hours after the assault. JMO

Did they look up public travel off the island, boat rental, inner tubes, etc?
Did they look up gangs on Bali?
Did they attempt/succeed in transferring SWM's funds?
Did they use SWM's credit card on the internet?
Did they search for articles about the woman found in a suitcase?
Did they look up penalty for murder on Bali/Indonesia?

At some point they must have realized ... "we're really, really, really screwed!!!" JMO

Lots of experience in criminal law, I see

Though I notice he deals with Govt & Authorities, and Immigration. Why would a person choose a lawyer who does not list Criminal Law in his credentials to defend a murder suspect?

Raja Nasution's law firm is listed in the Advocates - Lawyers section of their Yellow Pages.

I think "government and authorities" is euphemistic for criminal law.

If she has hired counsel and he doesn't, he may get the short end of the stick. Whoever talks first will likely get a better deal. But there remains a good chance that SM will disregard whatever her Indonesian counsel tells her and continue with ridiculous stories.

The fact that they have both remained silent indicates to me that they are both guilty. Otherwise one would've squawked by now, blaming the other and stating they witnesses or walked in on horror.

Considering they are young and stupid - JMO - I'm curious to know what HM and TS each feel is worse: ratting out the other or committing murder???

<modsnip>

A couple things I'm thinking about today- One, 800k is really not that much to sustain a mother and
child for years, especially when there are outstanding mortgages to pay off, they live in a pricey area and the daughter of the duo is resentful about not receiving the money outright and appears to make mom's life a living hell as a result, hence, perhaps the mom keeps trying to buy her daughter's compliance by spending money she shouldn't on things like nice cars and expensive vacations. (I really think, whether planned or not, this was about money and HM's belief that she was owed
and her mom had taken what was rightfully HM's).

I don't know. I do think their continued silence indicates they are both culpable. Think about it- 13 days or so in a Balinese jail, with no phone, social media, tv, booze, cozy beds, hot showers, good food, music, etc., and neither of these very young people have cracked and said- "He/she did it! I was scared as shocked and afraid if be hurt too so I just did what he/she said to do with the suitcase. I was terrified. He/she threatened to blame it on me and to kill me too!"

Nope. Nothing. And I don't blame their silence on love or loyalty. Love and loyalty to someone you are merely dating disappears fast under such conditions.

Yep - I think they're both culpable as well. JMO

I wonder if TS has been more open than LE has led on and they are waiting for HM to make her statement???

I think their silence is based on what they know of the US justice system, and both of them probably know quite a bit based on their past behaviors and perhaps the people they were hanging with. They both seem to have spent some time at a police station in the US at some point prior to their trip to Bali.

But I do agree that the fact that one did not immediately rat out the other indicates that both were present and involved in the altercation that killed Sheila and the aftermath of getting her into that suitcase and trying to clean up and get away with the crime.

Second, I never noticed until I read he piece linked above but it seems HM is being treated much more delicately and as if she is not as culpable, by the authorities. Notice, TS was handcuffed by the was not.

It is, if anything can be, a good thing that they weren't staying in some low budget hotel without the camera technology and a staff that pays attention.

True, I didn't notice TS was handcuffed and HM wasn't. Gender assumptions - He's a tall, strong guy. She comes across as just a girl, a small, now pregnant girl. People would assume she's harmless, not knowing "what it do". TS could get blamed for this whole thing. Hope he's the first to spill the beans.

Just wondering why articles have stated that the suitcase was wrapped with a sheet from the hotel because it wouldn't close and all subsequent pictures have shown a green garbage bag with the suitcase and no sheet. Was this an error in translation? I can understand the taxi driver not being suspicious about a green garbage bag being put into the trunk (low rent luggage? Lol) but a suitcase wrapped in a white sheet dripping with blood?

So where did they get the garbage bag?

I think with troubled teenagers (and there were a couple in my own family) their sense of entitlement comes from some deep dark place inside them. They can just assume that what their parents have (materialistically) should be theirs. Speaking of my own sister, she made my mother's life hell, and to keep peace in the family, my mother placated her. There's no question in my mind that my sister was disturbed in some way- just never diagnosed. We weren't spoiled, at least I would say the rest of the siblings didn't think so. We were all very much loved. But, I truly don't know why money and "things" were so important to her. We just didn't grow up in that type of household.

Reports have been sketchy with regard to the silver suitcase and just exactly how it was when place in the taxi trunk ... sheet wrapped body/suitcase ... duct taped ... not fully closed ...

I can only assume the green garbage bag was from the police station and used in an effort to contain the mess. JMO

Mrs Mack had injuries to her arms and hand implying she put up a struggle. My question is why didn't HM & TS have scratches or bruises? Looking at pictures of them shortly after their arrest I don't see anything. Imo HM caught her mother off guard?
The arm hand injuries could have happen grabbing Mrs Mack before she was dead. Jmt

Wonder if there were guest staying in the rooms next to them who may have heard the disturbance. Jmt

If Sheila was hit in the back of the head first, she likely did not see at least the first blow coming. Once realizing danger, she did what she culd to protect her face and head (versus attacking back). That's what I think could explain the absence of bruises in the alleged killers.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say ratting the other out.

It's been reported that sometime after TS arrived at the St. Regis, on late Mon evening/early Tues AM, the three were reportedly in an argument in the hotel lobby about who would pay for TS' room ...

If HM & TS didn't have some premeditated plans for SWM and the, say, ~$500/night room was too spendy for TS' pocketbook then why didn't he go, that fateful night, to another hotel? - there are plenty of them on Bali and I'm sure the St. Regis staff would have helped him or directed him where he could go. The next day, he could have met up with HM during the day and evening at the St. Regis or wherever and later return to his less expensive hotel nearby/wherever.

Instead he got a ~$500/night room [that's ~10 escort hours worth], secured for by ?????, but for which it appears he had absolutely no intention of paying [skipped out on bill a few hours later on Tues am - but kudos to him for checking out before/near check out time!!]??

I suppose there'll also be some charges against him for theft?/failure to pay for the room? And, property damage charges against HM, TS or both of them: sheets, pillow, glass item used as weapon, cleaning, spiritual cleansing, etc.

Well I guess it's possible that after they had removed the sheet from the outside of the case and the body from the inside that they put it in a garbage bag to contain evidence. And then they hauled it out in front of the station for the press to take pictures of it. Doesn't seem like something that would be done in a criminal investigation but this is another part of the world.

I've wondered if SWM reluctantly decided to put up her credit card for TS to stay one night at the hotel since it was after midnight when he got there, but was not at all pleased about it and refused to do so if HM thought she was going to stay with him. I have the idea that the argument about TS and his unwanted and surprise presence at the hotel continued between HM and SWM back in their hotel suite. With disastrous results.

They do like to show everyone the fruits of their arrests .... even if it means handling the evidence, with no gloves on.
