Are the records being sealed because Texas is investigating? It can't be because of people who were interviewed. We have those names and initials from documents we have been seen already. Are any journalists filing under the Freedom of Information Act to force their release?

jujube, Judge Herman Clause put a restrictive protective order into effect.
Imo, , the Gary Ridgeway; Green River serial killer/Gary Hilton: Forest Serial Killer prosecution/investigative strategy is being utilized in the BS Lavergne: prolific Sexual Predator Serial Killer investigation..
All indicators point to this, imo

The Advertiser filed FOIA requests to no avail...

* Records to remained sealed..

Evidence and statements gathered during the investigation of Mickey Shunick's murder at the hands of Brandon Lavergne will not be released to the public at this time because of ongoing investigations.

Thanx for sharing this link, RN2MOM.. Interesting read..
Seems that BS Lavergne, was in violation when he went to the quarterly evaluation on 05/28/2012, and his evaluating officer should have followed up by contacting the investigation detectives in NOLA concerning the mugging ruse, imo..

My thoughts exactly...... so many balls got dropped....but maybe it was God's plan for Mighty Mickey to end him so that peace and rest could come to the others hurt by BSL in the past.....that they could get answers and let them have some peace in all of this horrific tragedy he has caused.

I hate to think who and how many are out there .......missing..... no one knowing where or why.....just gone.

:banghead:

I know discussing social net works is against the rules, but I hope you will make an acceptation for this. Reading this made my heart heavy and sad.

In 2010, beautiful Mickey Shunick posted about how she can't wait to leave Lafayette.
Her sister jokingly replied "Mickey you'll never leave Lafayette!" And her reply was, "Yeah right! Two years, I'm making plans!"

2012, two years after she made that post, unfortunately she never got to leave Lafayette. At least not in the way she wanted to.

I don't know why that post made me so incredibly sad....
Thinking of her future plans that were put to rest, and how she really never got to experience living some place else. Had she gotten to leave Lafayette, there's a good chance her and BSL would have never crossed paths.

That is very sad.

When I think about how unfair it is that this monster ended the life of such a promising young woman, I always end up working back around to one thing that calms me down: Fate put Mickey crossing the street at St. John/St. Landry in BSL's line of vision as he was driving around Lafayette making a flurry of calls to escort services. I firmly believe he was out to victimize some woman that night, whether it was an escort, Mickey, or another woman that he happened to come upon. Had BSL gotten in contact with an escort & killed the escort, we may have never heard anything about it. Same if BSL had come upon a woman with a drug problem- her disappearance may not have been taken so seriously & written off as "part of her lifestyle" (I think this was part of the reason Lisa's case didn't get much attention). Same if BSL had come upon a woman from the "wrong side of the tracks" whose family/friends didn't have the knowledge & resources to publicize her disappearance as the Shunicks & Mickey's friends did for Mickey. A missing escort, a missing woman from the wrong side of the tracks, or a missing woman with drug problem would not have garnered the attention Mickey has. Sad but true. Had BSL killed an escort, woman with a drug problem, or woman whose family/friends had limited resources & education, he would likely still be free and continuing to abduct, rape, and murder.

Mighty Mickey & her family & friends who tirelessly kept her case out there brought an end to BSL's reign of terror & allowed for BSL to finally be brought to justice for Lisa's murder (and time will tell if he will be brought to justice for other murders as well). Mickey may never have gotten to leave Lafayette- but she was meant for a purpose that was so much more. The women of South Louisiana (and Texas) are safe from one less sexual predator thanks to Mickey. She died so that moms, daughters, sisters, friends couldn't be harmed by BSL.

Doesn't seem like Lafayette has a very good paper, does it? The press is supposed to inform the public.

Actually I salute the Advertiser for filing the FOIA requests. They cannot over ride the Judge, sadly.. The shame lies within the Justice System, imo.

The sealing of info has been used in prior serial killer cases. Many times the sealing of investigative info is to hide the incompetence of prior investigations that allowed the predator to prey on other innocent victim$, imo..

In the Gary Hilton serial killer investigation, FOIA requests were filed in a 1982 arson case with 3 occupants.. It took us over 2 years to pry the arrest/incident report from the Dekalb Co., GA Judicial system. The case was never prosecuted... although there were eyewitnesses and GMH had wrecked his vehicle while leaving the scene of the arson. GMH's Dekalb Co., Attorney/movie producer Sam Rael, produced the Deadly Run movie; Hunting Humans...Coincidence? I think not..

He set two gallon jugs of gasoline in the carport of the Green family home with 2 strings leading up the driveway where he sat in his “BLACK CAMERO”, then set the strings on fire. They, Ms. Green and her family (her sister and brother) members heard a noise ran out of the house and were able to put out the fire with a hose. It happened at 0001 hours.

When Hilton was driving off he hit a parked car, thus the hit & run charge. One of the young ladies in the Green family had dated Hilton a few times, but broke it off. That was in Feb. 1982. In May, 2 weeks before the fire on May 28, 1982 he started calling to harass her asking if she wanted to make some money prostituting for him.
She said he sounded like he had eaten a few ludes and she hung up on him. He was arrested on First Degree Arson charges and booked into Dekalb County jail.

He lived at the time at 5135 West Mountain St. #A-17, Stone Mountain, GA. The report indicates the Green’s signed statements that they knew who the arsonist was and could positively identify him as Hilton, but I guess he just found a way to talk his way out of it or the girls were just too afraid of him and what he might do next.

From FOIA request:

Case #82-103081 & #82-103082, the report ends with case is closed and cleared, pending criminal prosecution. Hilton signed for a copy of the report on June 11, 1982.

Has The Advertiser filed a FOIA in this case?
This seems to be looked at on a case by case and state by state basis.
From what I've read, in this case it seems the information is sealed because of an ongoing investigation which I understand. What I don't understand is why The Advertiser pulled the article. Of course, I've seen this paper when I was in Lafayette. It was about as thick as a Highlights magazine if that. I actually thought it was a skinny quickie sales paper.

Foxfire, I am so upset that a tier 3 RSO only had to report quarterly!!!!!
Quarterly????? A convicted known violent sex offender?
What is the matter with this picture!
IMO.....it's a no wonder why sex crimes by RSO's continue.
The problem lies with the laws. They need to change.
Imo

Going back to BSL's guilty plea one of his attorney's said that he, BSL, wanted to "come clean" prior to his arraignment without any considerations. If that were the case why didn't he do it? Would it be because his attorney advised against it? If he would have confessed with approval by his attorney would he have been able to file an appeal using misrepresentation by his attorney? Just trying to understand the legal aspect as to why he didn't confess earlier if that is what he really wanted to do.

Foxfire,
I just want to comment on your knowledge, postings, influence, caring, schooling of us, anything I haven't mentioned, etc. You are so helpful, inspiring, and just downright bring it home!!!
Thank you for sleuthing with us! I continue to look forward to your posts!

I think his saying he wanted to come clean is a lie. Just like so many many more things he told people were lies. Don't let him fool you for one second!
