They don't mince words, calling them the evil pair.

"The evil pair were brought into court via a tunnel from the nearby Robert Presley Detention Center where they have been held since being transferred from Perris on Monday morning.

Dressed in shabby black outfits from their civilian wardrobes, both Turpins were shackled for the 20-minute appearance, with David also wearing ankle restraints...

Louise Turpin faces 37 charges while her husband faces 38. They are both charged with the 12 counts of torture, 12 counts of false imprisonment, 7 charges of abusing a dependant adult and six counts of child abuse.*

David is also charged with one count of a lewd act against a child under the age of 14. The alleged victim was one of his daughters.*"

Goes back to wondering if some of these are the older daughters children.

They knew what they were doing was wrong and it appears they literally guarded the children's every move to prevent them from ever saying anything to outside people that could get the parents in trouble.

I bet one of the stipulations given to this child was he could go to class so long as he never said one word to others about the family. Imagine the fear in this child as he sat in class trying to learn from a teacher but knowing his mother was right out in the hall waiting.

"However, at least one of the older siblings attended classes at a local college. Louise Turpin would accompany him, wait outside the classroom and then take him home, Hestrin said."

As a country, we need to do better with our children. As my husband said, "Okay. This family was caught, but how many more cases are out there?"

Most homeschooling parents do a very good job, but how do we really know what goes on inside a home when a city, county, or state does no checks? Academically, the parental requirement is a h.s. diploma. Seems fine, but how long ago did they get that diploma? Should parents be tested before they are permitted to educate their child? Should there be a background check on who's living in the house?

With no knowledge of home situations and no visits, how can a child be protected? Sandcastle is listed with the State of California as a private school. There was supposed to be a fire check. Never happened, but that would not necessarily have uncovered the abuses. Home schooling, IMO, needs welfare checks and conferences with a child.

I'm not suggesting discontinuing home school, just that we need to do a better job monitoring.

They are sadistic Nazis. They plead not guilty to continue to torture their children? Pigs.

No chance that's gonna happen.

But the NG plea is pretty standard. Attorneys would be pretty irresponsible to allow anything else at this point. Even scum are entitled to a defense, and at this point the evidence them is only partially available. Much more yet to know.

I live in Canada.
How can I help?

RSBBM - A fire check would have at least picked up all the filth in the home as a hazard.

Also a lot of folks are against regulations until it impacts them directly:(

This gets crazier and crazier. All that chaos and horror in the home and then an organized DVD collection?

The organized DVD's is consistent with the "parents" taking care of themselves and their own priorities & interests, which no doubt also served the purpose of tormenting their children psychologically with the knowledge that even a DVD collection meant more to their "parents" than they did.

I wonder if either one has asked how the kids are? I mean, since they plead not guilty and all.

Whoa! That was fast. I wish they had something that shows how much money is being collected. I love to see the number go up.

Someone suggested on the previous thread that people consider making these kinds (clothing, books, stuffed bears, etc.) of donations to your local agencies that handle foster children and those in similar situations. Sadly there are many kids in all of our communities who are rescued from similar abusive situations. Backpacks were one of the suggestions, as kids sometimes have to move out of their homes and into foster care on short notice, don't always have a way to carry their few belongings.

Nope, I don't see the children missing those torturers.
For TWO YEARS there were plans being made for salvation.
Each child watched the others laying in their own filth or tied to the furniture. And were themselves made to suffer the same.
Love, amongst each other, yes.
The bastards, no.

I so agree with this.
It was said at the presser over and over that the children were relieved.

This is just a small amount of material donations they received.

"...When deputies knocked the the Turpins’ door on Sunday morning, the Turpins unchained two of the three children, but one – a 22-year-old – remained chained, according to the DA. An 11-year-old and 14-year-old were unchained as deputies stood at the door, Hestrin said. ..."

Guessing - #4 (boy) is 22, #12 (girl) is 11 and #10 (girl) is 14

I've been working on the ages a bit, too--not sure if I'm right but here's an alternative to consider. Since the 17-yr old is the oldest minor, and she's #8 in the red t-shirt lineup, followed by #9 (a boy), and #10, 11, and 12 are the youngest girls (apart from baby 13), here's how I'm deducing it (again, I could be wrong):

There were 7 'adult' kids 18 and older (2 boys/5 girls stated in the news) sent to Corona for treatment.
There were 6 minors sent to Riverside (mentioned in news and press releases), which would include the youngest boy--so 5 girls and 1 boy, ranging from 2 to 17.

Here are the minors/ages mentioned in news reports so far:

Brave 17-yr old (GIRL, and deduced to be #8 in previous thread; I agree. Earliest threads had birth records for the 1st 5 kids for those new to this thread.)

Two minors chained, then unchained while LE were at the door (ages mentioned in press release):
14 yr old
11 yr old

12-yr old ("the weight of an average 7-yr old")
(in report from ktla.com, Jan 18)

2-yr old (baby)

That leaves one last child, age unknown, but presumably born in that big gap between the baby (2) and the next one up (11), so one of the three girls seated together that look close in age and are the youngest (apart from baby).

Looking at the red t-shirt photo where they're all shirted up in birth order, we can see that the boy comes after the brave girl, order-wise (tee #9), so he'll need to be the 14-yr old, followed by 3 seated girls followed by the baby. So here's my lineup (subject to correction!):

#8 - 17 yrs - GIRL - brave sister who alerted LE
#9 - 14 yrs - BOY (chained, then unchained while LE were at the door)
#10 - 12yrs - GIRL (mentioned by ktla.com news today as having the "weight of an average 7-yr old")
#11 - 11yrs - GIRL (chained, then unchained while LE were at the door)
#12 - 7-9 yrs? GIRL (did someone in here mention there was a 7-yr gap between this one and the baby?)
#13 - 2 yrs - GIRL (youngest of the minors)

ETA: yes, agree with guessing #4, BOY, is the 22-yr old.

My guess (since they interviewed the kids prior to hospital placement and before drawing up these charges) is that that offense likely involves #10, #11, or #12...ages 12, 11, and younger (7-9?) respectively. I suppose it could have been an offense against the baby, but that seems unlikely due to the nature of the charge. It seems a "lewd act" would arise from an interview, and from a 'report' coming from one the cluster of young girls under 14.

Siblings planning their escape for two years according to that Daily mail link. Officer said there may have been a trigger. What happened in that house two years ago? Baby was born. Hate thinking it, but I wonder if the baby is the connection
.

Not only was Baby 13 (the current 2-yr old) born abt 2015, but LT's parents died the next year within 3 months of each other (2016). (Wish I could remember the article--was from yesterday or day before, possibly one interviewing/quoting the sister E, who mentioned they didn't come to the funerals.) A poster also observed on a previous thread that summer 2016 was when she'd read the family stopped traveling, and May 2016 is also when the Facebook comments died off from family (presumably because they didn't attend the funerals?).

JMO, but I'd say it'd be safe to say things ramped up since 2015, leading the 17 y.o. to start planning her escape.

I think homeschooling in our country needs to be majorly assessed and regulated. I understand that many parents homeschool for their own personal reasons or beliefs that are not nefarious. On the other hand, homeschooling gives abusers such an easy opportunity to keep their victims secluded and away from society. If it wasn’t for the brave 17 year old, the victims may have never gotten out of that hell hole alive. Imagine how many other situations like this there may be that we have no idea about because the kids are roped off from society? Something has to change. JMO

I think it’s typical to plead not guilty at the first hearing. At least from the other cases
I’ve followed. But yeah, highly doubt the monsters asked about their kids. Except maybe the 2 year old.
