Forgive me if this has been asked. I can’t possibly read every thread to find it. Where was it stated in MSM that they were only educated on a first grade level?

I am asking because I have had to step away from this discussion because of how I feel the kids are being examined with a fine tooth comb. I am not pointing fingers, I am just saying it’s making me uncomfortable to participate in so much conversation about certain aspects of the victims, knowing that they could certainly be reading it. As for the education level, I am just hoping it wasn’t rumors that got started. Maybe from the journals. I’m sure testing them formally wasn’t immediately done.

I agree.

There is a chance that the real facts of this case are not as horrifying as we are imagining them to be. I wish there was someone who would shed some light on the facts from the Defendants' perspective. The only real source we've heard from is the prosecutor and law enforcement.

Call me naive, but I hope that the children haven't been abused as horribly as we have been lead to believe.

I don't know about the abuse being less horrific, but I do agree with the notion that they may not have been as isolated from all positive/constructive contact as we are being led to believe. Maybe we are too easily swayed by their young appearance. For me, it brings to mind Gypsy Rose Blancharde.

Two of my own musings amid all this horror:

I have never seen anyone look at their significant other with such an intent and utterly besotted expression as LT manifests in the "wedding";

and DT seems to be overcome with emotion to the point where he can hardly speak, and wipes his eyes - what's that about? -

no answers, really, I think I'm just trying to make sense of the inexplicable.

I agree....

and now I am wondering if at this moment they are NOW turning on each other...

Placing blame on "the other"?

:dunno:

From today's Times newspaper (UK) - the Simon referred to is a neighbour: "The first inkling that Simon, 32, had that something was badly wrong over the road was when the parents were arrested that Sunday. “I had friends staying and they were, like, ‘Salynn, you’ve got a bunch of cop cars outside your house.’ ” She saw David Turpin sitting in a police car parked a few feet away from her home. “He was staring at me. The mum was in another car. She kept laughing and smiling and spitting, like she was hacking a loogie. It was weird. If it was me I would have been crying my eyes out.

“Then the kids came out, single file in pyjamas and pants. One girl had a leather jacket on. They [the police] didn’t wait for the CPS [social services], which to me means they were trying to get them the hell out of there. They used the family’s own van to take them away.” https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...home-that-became-a-house-of-horrors-5r2l6wnkz

This neighborhood sounds like a nice family neighborhood from the above link. They likely did just think they were nocturnal introverts. I'd not think a thing of folks out in their yard at night. I'd probably be out in my yard too. We're rather nocturnal, ourselves...

He said that it was “almost impossible to comprehend” what had happened. People living in the community had done everything possible to be good neighbours, from staging an annual “meet, eat and greet” with food trucks to an active neighbourhood-watch scheme for which he knocked on “every frickin’ door” in the street. “But you can’t make people come out of their house and participate,” he said. “It’s their right to be introverts.”

Wendy Martinez, 41, can see the Turpins’ backyard from her house. “To be a neighbour, to be so close and not to know anything, it’s just heartbreaking,” she said. “Since Sunday I have not been right."

Tears began to stream down her face. “Everybody’s bashing us: the neighbours this, the neighbours that. But do you think if we saw something we would not have said something?”

Meanwhile, a defense attorney for the Turpin parents stopped by to collect clothing for the defendants to wear at their court hearing on Wednesday. The lawyer said the district attorney's office was attempting to file a restraining order to prevent the husband and wife from contacting others who might be involved in the case.

Well, yes---the oldest son was taking college classes as late as last spring. And I have a hard time believing that LT sat outside each and every class when he was taking 15 hours per semester. They had three cars and a van. And someone posted that one of the girls could drive. I think we have only scratched the surface of this story.

The abuse is horrific because the children were shackled to furniture for sometimes months at a time, were only fed once a day, were starving, were beaten, and were strangled. And they had to lie in their own urine and excrement. And live in complete filth with feces and urine and trash everywhere. And at least one was sexually abused. I don't know how more depraved it can be. We have heard from many sources including those that visited and lived by the previous residences and the skeleton like videos that were on Youtube. Some were so poorly fed that they have neuropathy which is permanent nerve damage meaning they no longer have feeling in either extremities and may never be able to recover. Neuropathy is generally not reversible.

I would expect the eight younger children to be more cognitively impaired by near complete isolation. The four older children would be expected to be less cognitively impaired since they at least from some news reports were not initially confined to the residence in Texas.

I have been reading furiously for 2 days, my heart is broken. As some of you have stated I feel so horrible for the middle son. I think the oldest girl and the middle son were the ones who got it worst. The wedding video with his pants too small and the other 2 had pants that fit. He is the one who looked unhappiest in the photos.

Last night I ran across a photo of all the children on a sectional couch. The faces were blurred, but it looked like the middle son was on the right lying back as if passed out and so very thin while the other kids were smiling for the pic. I have looked and looked before I made this post and I can not for the life of me find that picture again. I worry for him the most.

Again, I'm NOT saying that the starvation and torture isn't as bad as what authorities are reporting. I believe it absolutely was. And there may be even worse things we don't know yet. I am ONLY saying that the kids are maybe not quite as feral as people are thinking...meaning they have a little bit more knowledge of the world than we thought. That absolutely does not discount the horrific way they were tortured.

A reminder that the word "Torture" was used by the District Attorney himself, and he is also the one who specifically mentioned the kids being taunted with food while they were starving...it was not just "in the press."

Watch the press conference again and see what the DA was saying, in his own words.

I never thought you were denying the severity, just as I was not. But why must the the only thing we think be, " And there may be even worse things we don't know yet.". Can we not even hope some things were not as bad as it is being suggested? It would not be the very first the the DA manipulated information. (No ONE would suggest the kids are lying! Or minimize the horror that did occur. )

I'm looking at that photo right now.

I can’t see the article without subscribing. So I’m only going off of the quoted comment.

Respectfully, while I do read the DM, I find some of the U.K. sites tend to sensationalize things. The cops put the victims in the Turpin van and drove away? That seems like majorly messing with evidence. Jmo

Yeah but if they needed to get them the heck out of that repellant roll hole quickly and not have them just sitting on the curb, I get it.

So did I. Plus, he's one of the only people so far who has had prior contact with this family but isn't trying to cash in on it.

Yup. He even took down the videos. He's a good guy.

I wonder if she was in any mom groups or Disney groups? And if so, what comments did she make?

Ooh! Smart thought! I bet she was active online. I would love to see her comments.

I'm new to all of this but have been following the case. It's heartbreaking. Do we know what the next court hearing on Wednesday is about? I admit, I don't know much about it all, but I thought in the arraignment the court hearing was scheduled for February 23? Is this for something else maybe

He is the second from the right, the only one whose head isn't raised.

I have wondered if they would control the older ones with threats of harming the younger ones. For example, the oldest son taking college classes...if he were to leave home for those maybe the parents would tell him if he told anyone what was going on at home or if he didn't come home, they would punish the younger ones. Just my random thoughts

Is he? I am happy to stand corrected, but I always thought the middle boy was on the far right, sort of still folded forward like he can't straighten out all of the way. But even through the blur I swear he is grinning from ear to ear. I thought the oldest boy was 2nd from the right sunken into the couch as if he didn't have an ounce of energy to hold himself up. The youngest boy is on the other couch toward the middle?

I also don't believe that the kids saw a doctor at least four years ago. I think it was longer than that, and even if it was four years ago, how many of you think it was not even a legitimate doctor? Given this family's sick twisted views on religion and child-rearing, Louise at best probably took some of the kids to one of those "Belief Healers." Those TV Evangelists, types who conned many out of millions of dollars. The kids in a wheelchair, the "doctor" puts his hands on his head, recites some Biblical verse, has the poor victim repeat the Scripture, and within seconds he's out of the wheelchair. "GOD BE PRAISED!" He's "cured." How many of you think that this was the type of "doctor" for these children?

A serious physician would do checks on vaccinations, blood work, see the malnutrition in these kids. Even a complete C-Scan and MRL of their bodies. Would a doctor have a legal right to interfere if he/she suspected abuse? Or does that vary from state to state and type of doctor?

Satch

They did see doctors, some are in bankruptcy as well as some sorts of medical procedure (s) anesthesia, pathology from Tarrant County, a specialist in Cleburne for eyes. And the infant was born in hospital and photos show a chubby baby girl. And we don't know which children hadn't. Personally since we are told that (four years) could be one or all. But we have nothing to prove it false. Could be that's what they had at time. The press conference was very early on. Jmho

I wondered if they ever forced the older ones to discipline the younger ones..
