and one was a Belgian citizen. That's actually the current concern-second generation, children of immigrants with citizenship being radicalized. So, I don't think citizenship is indicative of much.

Technically international terrorism happens OUTSIDE the US although it seems to more commonly be used to indicate the nationality of the perpetrators but that's not really the technical definition. And citizenship is seeming to become less meaningful as more citizens of western countries become radicalized and travel to Syria for training or otherwise become involved in anti-western activities.

I can't help but wonder- with the recent activities in Beirut, France etc. that LE on the scene was being overly cautious and maybe sensitive to the ideas of terrorism by late in the day. Who can blame them and 3 shooters is certainly not an every day dispute type of deal.

I have to say though, I was listening to live coverage on NPR while picking up my middle child from her high school and I could hardly believe how slow they were going approaching the black SUV. It was riddled with bullet holes and the back windows were completely blown out- no movement inside the car and it was like slow motion.

Seriously, it was surrounded by 3 military assault vehicles and many, many SWAT officers and no one was doing anything. It was bizarre. I wasn't quite sure why they didn't have a bomb robot- it had been hours since the beginning of the initial shootings.

We are not the same anymore with the world happenings- when I heard the host of NPR say that they weren't even certain the person in the vehicle was actually involved I burst in to tears. What have we come to?

It really doesn't matter if they were involved or not. That person in the suv had an ak-47 strapped to their chest, one reason why LE moved so cautiously, and the suv started firing at LE when the pursuit started. JMO

Two suspects, one man and one woman, dead after shootout
--Two people, a man and a woman, are dead after a confrontation with police.

-- A third person seen running away from the scene has been detained, but it's not clear if he is connected to the shootings.

--Both deceased suspects were inside a dark SUV that was the subject of a police pursuit after officers arrived to investigate a home in Redlands.

--The suspects in the SUV were dressed in "assault-style clothing" and were armed with assault rifles and handguns, officials said.

-- Police said they are still clearing the Inland Regional Center where the mass shooting occurred and have found what they believe is an explosive device.

-- While initial reports said the attackers had thrown explosive devices, police said an object that was thrown was not a bomb.

Assault type clothing. Ak47's. Explosive devices.

This does not sound random to me. Sounds planned out. IMO

CNN just reported that source say LE think the person who left the party WAS the person who came back and shot up the place. This is so weird.

I read that too.
Apparently they showed up for the party to see if a certain someone was there, and then returned later with their compadres to shoot the place up.
So bizzare.

That to me sounds like someone with possible connections to the event...ex-employee for the county?

It is strange they didn't take off and lay low. It's like they didn't care if they died. This has to be one of the strangest I have followed. What could be so important to them to kill and injure so many? And die for???? I hope there are answers in the days to come.

Sometimes. I think it depends on the motivation or cause, because doesn't using the word terrorism imply the violence carries a political message? For example - Dylan Roof is a terrorist, IMO, but Adam Lanza was not. (I think Dear is going to be a terrorist after we learn more, and Eric Rudolph was DEFINITELY a terrorist.)

JMO etc.

BBM
They did shoot up a building that had county employees in it, so it could be classified as an act of terrorism.
What the "political message" is remains to be seen.
That is if of course, the motive was a political one.

If this is terrorism then I imagine they simply care more about their 'cause' than they do about their own future. If this is not political terrorism, it's an even more confusing subject. Many point to mental health issues. The attack on Columbine was one of the few non-political attacks with more than one shooter. It's a rare thing. An attack with three shooters all in a perfect storm of mental illness would be as yet (I believe) unheard of. This leads me to believe this group, if all three were indeed involved, were probably behind some agenda / cause in their minds.

Its a condo not apt -- terror cell??

I keep coming back to the point of this. Unless the motive was to hurt the county health department then this target really doesn't make sense. Plenty of other low security places with more people. I feel like there has to be some connection to the location even if it is escaping me. Hell, why wear masks?

I'd love to know if someone in a county office that was at that party had a known reputation as someone they considered 'anti Muslim'? Maybe someone making comments about taking in refugees, etc. It sounds to have been very important for the shooters to take out someone specific.

"A man named Syed Farook is listed as a state employee who works as an environmental health specialist in San Bernardino.

The name was used on police broadcasts as a possible suspect in the moments after the shooting. A witness said he had left the party and returned with another person and began shooting.

The shooting occurred during a Christmas party being held by the San Bernardino County public health department, which had rented a room at the Inland Regional Center. The center provides services to adults and children with developmental disabilities. More than 600 employees work there.

The Los Angeles Times, citing federal law enforcement sources, says one of the gunmen may have been at the Inland Regional Center earlier in the day and after leaving angrily, returned with one or two other men:"
