With this first suspect ID'ed, regardless of the reason at all, an already tense situation in America is about to become far worse.

"A man named Syed Farook is listed as a state employee who works as an environmental health specialist in San Bernardino.

The name was used on police broadcasts as a possible suspect in the moments after the shooting. A witness said he had left the party and returned with another person and began shooting.

The shooting occurred during a Christmas party being held by the San Bernardino County public health department, which had rented a room at the Inland Regional Center. The center provides services to adults and children with developmental disabilities. More than 600 employees work there.

The Los Angeles Times, citing federal law enforcement sources, says one of the gunmen may have been at the Inland Regional Center earlier in the day and after leaving angrily, returned with one or two other men:"

BBM. So people at the party knew him. Certainly gives weight to the party dispute and came back armed theory as bizarre as that is. Terrorists don't usually pick targets that have personally pissed them off. So maybe it was personal...although again, we are talking about at least 3 people involved and they had quite a few weapons.

How would they get ready so quickly. Pipe bombs, weapons etc. convince others to participate? I dunno

One was a female, so it might have been a wife or girlfriend that he convinced to help him?

And he might have been preparing for the attack for awhile and this was just the time he actually went for it.

I'm always torn about this but then I think about two incidents in the 80s. a guy went into a bank in Washington DC intending to rob it, but nearly everyone in line was an FBI agent cashing a paycheck. he yelled Freeze! and about a dozen feds drew down on him

the other one, a small town in the south passed an ordinance requiring that every homeowner purchase and register a gun. the burglary rate went to zero in less than a month and remained that way while burglaries increased in neighboring towns. so, like I say, I'm torn

I'd have to agree with bestill and gramcracker.
My opinion, people need to be allowed to defend themselves .
Not 100% sure -- but I'm betting those killers today went into that building KNOWING no one could shoot back. :(

As for stopping gun violence by restricting them even more, sadly I wish that were true.
But my best friend's brother and sis-in-law were murdered by people who'd been released from prison a month and three months previously -- and it took them very little time to get guns, despite the laws that were on the books.
No laws will stop the criminals ; imo. :(

I heard a witness say that it was a training seminar and not a holiday party.

Quote from the officer in the building. "Everyone relax. I'll take the bullet before you do, that's for damn sure." :( The bravery of the police is astounding. There are heated moments between the police and the citizens in America, but we cannot forget the danger they face every single day on the job, and how many lives they save and protect.

I heard a witness say that it was a training seminar and not a holiday party.

There was a reported LE training seminar held this morning near the shooting. Don't know if everyone is mixing these two things together? I guess the real truth will come out soon enough.

I'd love to know if someone in a county office that was at that party had a known reputation as someone they considered 'anti Muslim'? Maybe someone making comments about taking in refugees, etc. It sounds to have been very important for the shooters to take out someone specific.

It's possible.
The refugee issue is huge right now.

I hate homegrown terror; it ruins the symmetry of one's base instinct toward xenophobic nationalism.

inside condo fire truck just arrived on scene

Thinking of Paris and "soft spots" and distraction tactics ie. keeping emergency personnel tied up at one location, imo speculation.

Don't worry, people will usually find the most black-and-white route to lead them out of the resulting cognitive dissonance. ;)

SWAT was doing an exercise right near facility ..

It is strange they didn't take off and lay low. It's like they didn't care if they died. This has to be one of the strangest I have followed. What could be so important to them to kill and injure so many? And die for???? I hope there are answers in the days to come.

According to the reporter on KFI radio, who was hanging out at the scene all day, talking to employees:

the shooter worked for Public Health but was in ongoing disputes with several coworkers. He went to the party, and then left suddenly, saying her felt sick. Within minutes, he came back, with two accomplices and began shooting his co-workers.

Police went to his home in Redlands, to see if the coworkers were right in their identification. When the cops pulled in his driveway, the saw the black SUV speeding away. They chased it and thats when the shootout happened. The reason they did not walk up to the car was because they thought it had been boobytrapped by a bomb.

Maybe an injustice collector ?
My hope is that this was an isolated incident and not the start of something larger.
Just one or more persons with a grudge who decided to take revenge ?

There's this thing called "agreeing to disagree" ... For myself --and probably many, if not everyone on this forum-- I'd rather be ALIVE and appreciate other differences of opinion than to fly into a murderous rage, kill innocent people, and lose my own life as well. Smdh.
:moo:

does anyone remeber if we have ever had two mass shootings 4 days apart?
