and it was a year ago...........he wasn't caught.........
IMO there are other girls also.
Maybe in another area of the state.
A year in between would be a long time for someone like a RSO.
He lead a double life, having girl friends and children.
I'd like to know why his relationships didn't work out.

I don't understand why Gardner was not looked into within the first few days of Amber's disappearance...Living only 2 miles from her last known whereabouts and his prior offense on victim in the same age group.
I thought it was standard procedure to interview all sex offenders in the area immediately when a child goes missing??

I think the Escondido PD really blew this case. In the early stages they thought Amber was a runaway. I can't believe they didn't investigate Gardner and all RSO's in the first few days, not two months later. This makes me so angry!!

The lead detective for the Amber Dubois case was asked whether they found any clothing from Amber Dubois. After he hummed and hawed about it for 2 mins, he finally answered "I cannot comment" This was leading a news reporter to speculate that they did in fact find clothing from the Amber Dubois case. This was heard on the JVM, and I do not have a link about it.

Has any bodies of water near where she went missing been searched?
Often times offenders return to simalr settings with each victim.I am in Indiana and am not real familar with the terrain there. Thanks

Thanks for the heads up, nancy2441. Hi Cloudajo, do you have any idea when this identification of the truck was made? It had not been made months after Amber had disappeared. There was a San Diego news article on a similar red truck at a Wal-Mart that a young man caught in surveilance photo accused of maybe attempting to kidnap a girl there (don't remember the exact details), but was too blurry to know how similar. If same truck the chrome had been removed.

The reporter writing that was not aware the truck had been id'ed at that time. I am curious how a parent came to be identified some time later when a massive search for owner of that truck took place at the school when Amber disappeared. (and IIRC, you did a great deal of work comparing pictures of models of trucks, etc. at the time.)

You're welcome. Does this help? I personally don't think the truck in the Wal-Mart case was the same as in Amber’s case (similar but I don’t think same). However, I find the amount of time it took to identify the truck in Amber’s case as that of a parent of a student bothers me. The truck was distinctive and all over the news. I find it hard to believe the parent wouldn't have known.

Amber was last seen walking to school at about 7:10AM and went missing.

April 23, 2009 (over 2 months after Amber went missing)
A video taken from the school bus maintenance area on Feb 13th was released by LE to the media, showing a red/burgundy/maroon truck pulling into a school bus maintenance yard parking spot at about 7:10AM, then pulling out and exiting to N Broadway about 3 min later (nobody got in or out of the truck). At the time, LE said they had identified nearly all other vehicles on surveillance footage in the area that morning as those of students or school employees. They had not been able to identify this truck. Amber’s father said LE didn’t release video of truck sooner because they didn’t want to tip off the abductor(s) and Amber’s mother said LE had staked out area to see if the truck came back. When this didn’t pan out they released the video to the public.

May 21, 2009
The articles came out about the 2 Wal-Mart molestations at College Grove and Kearny Mesa, with pics/video of the suspect and his red truck. Several articles questioned whether this perp was linked to Amber’s case because of the truck similarities

Oct 19, 2009 (over 5 months after video of truck was released)
Article came out about Amber’s case that said, “A red pickup seen in a grainy video parked in the school bus lot near the football field has been all but dismissed as a lead. “We think we've identified it,” Benton said. “We're hoping to confirm soon that the red truck had nothing to do with the case.”

February 10, 2010
Article came out about Amber’s case that said, “Detectives later learned that the truck belonged to the parent of a student at the high school. They questioned the parent and determined the truck probably had nothing to do with the girl's disappearance.”

Info about the male seen walking with or near Amber that morning about 7:10AM. There were various mentions of this but never many specifics and no sketch. Early on he was described as “slender” then more recently it was “doughy.”

Mar 12, 2009 search warrant: At approximately 0710 hours, [parent 2] was driving her children to Escondido High School southbound on Broadway Ave when she saw Amber Dubois walking southbound on the west curb of Broadway with a male. [Parent 2] described the male as a dark complected young male who was tall and slender. [Parent 2] did not recognize the male. Both [Parent 2] and [Parent 1] placed her approx. 200 yards north of Escondido High School, located at 1535 N Broadway Ave in Escondido.

The maps to Lake Wohlford on the Forsenic Astrology thread and the aerial view from there, indicates there is a possible point where what I 'saw' happening might have occurred, however the dearth of pictures of Lake Wohlford do nothing to help determine the validity of that idea.

I do believe the high area on that right point on the map, as well as the high points at Lake Hughes should be searches with cadaver dogs if they can find buried people, or some other device that can. The person I 'saw' doing this resembled Gardner.

Amber's grandmother was on JVM, she doesn't believe JAG is the perp. Neither does Amber's mom (although she admits she might be in denial). They think if her body was out there, it would have been found because JAG is "sloppy". Grandmother said she thinks she was sold into human trafficking.

IMO JAG might be the guy, but I understand they want to keep the faith Amber is alive.

Thanks for this, Nancy. I am still not clear if it was raining around Lake Hodges or the other lake on the late afternoon of Feb 12. I did "see" some clouds in the sky, and sense it had rained within the last day or two. The soil seems moist but the leaves seem dry. And the branches were at least fairly dry. Could you go back to the previous days forecast? I would do it myself, but I'm not seeing a link.
