Momeni has hired Bradford Cohen of Fort Lauderdale and Saam Zangeneh, a Miami-based attorney who advertises being “100% Persian” in his Instagram bio. Zangeneh’s username, “legalsicario,” references gunmen and assassins.

Today, after submitting a request to withdraw herself from the case, Canny was formally relieved by the judge.

She yelled out 'you'll miss me!' as Momeni was led out of court in handcuffs.

'S**t happens in representing people. I can’t divulge the nature of the conflict… it is super interesting, but I’m never going to tell you,' she said, citing attorney-client privilege.

I thought I recognized Zangeneh from the Dan Markel case. I wasn't that impressed with his representation of Sigfredo Garcia; then again, he didn't have much to work with. I certainly liked him better that Magbanua's attorneys, who were totally cringeworthy.

So Canny "said she initiated the termination" according to

But in the twitter video she said the first lawyer always gets dumped. She sounded pissed.

Whatever...
woman rubs me the wrong way

Very unprofessional of her to yell out 'you'll miss me" as NM was led out of court. Also, her game playing with the media about the conflict of interest that is "super interesting" but she will never tell them what it is. It's all about her. Now she can get into planning her trip to Nepal full time.

I feel like her conduct since first representing NM has been unprofessional. The stuff that comes out of her mouth is just bizarre, sometimes. Like, "She said she is looking forward to her trip to Nepal in October, which she said would be “way more spiritually fulfilling” than her nearly two months representing Momeni has been." Um, what?

I watched a few video interviews of NM's new attorney, Saam Negeveh. He seems very good. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of "blaming the victim" as this case goes forward, based on the results of Bob Lee's toxicology report.

But having the kitchen knife from his sister's condo shows premeditation, according to the prosecution. New attorney will probably say that NM took it with him for his own protection, saying that Bob Lee was high on drugs and acting erratically. But then we have the sister's text message to BL, confirming that NM "came down pretty hard on Bob Lee" (my paraphrase of her text).

Wonder if the goal of the new attorney will be to reduce the charge to manslaughter.

replying to my own post because its too late to edit -

NM's new attorney is Saam Zangeneh, wrong name/spelling in post I made above.

So odd to me that he would hire out-of-state attorneys. Esp. when laws in FL and CA are so very different. I wonder if either of these attorneys has taken the California bar exam and how that whole licensing thing is going to work.

The range of possible defenses in CA would be very different to those in FL. Any evidence either of these lawyers has practiced outside of FL? Very curious about their licensing.

IMO.

Zangeneh is not licensed to practice law in California. Attorneys who are not licensed in the State of California but are licensed in another state can request to represent a defendant in a single case such as Momeni's.

Zangeneh's Instagram profile describes him as a criminal defense attorney with offices in Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico. "Protecting clients in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. 100% Persian."

That one is a FL case - good memory you have! Zangeneh has offices in Puerto Rico. Says he "protects" clients in all 50 states in his Instagram. Not "represents," which is interesting. At any rate, he has to be a member of the CA Bar to practice law in California. With the length of time he's apparently been in active practice in FL, he could take a one day bar exam:

Perhaps he already has. But when I search on the CA Bar page (both regular and provisionally licensed lawyers), I can't find him.

There's a different Zangeneh (from Houston, different first name) but no Saam Zangeneh with offices in FL (place of office is listed in the bar search results).

Interesting. He'll need to apply provisionally. Can't find a Bradford Cohen out of Ft. Lauderdale in the CA Bar search, either - and Cohen's webpage states he represents Florida and doesn't mention anything out of state.

Did find his middle initial (Bradford M. Cohen) on his webpage, and there is no one by that name licensed to practice law in CA that I can find. Cohen is not provisionally licensed, either. Is that why they didn't show up?

One must past an Interstate Ethics exam and either the one day or two day California Bar (which then has to be graded).

IMO.
