"A parallel investigation is ongoing and specific details cannot be discussed at this time."

This seems to indicate more is going on here than meets the eye. I am guessing these folks unwittingly got involved in something to do with another crime, perhaps a wrong place/wrong time scenario. I hate this kind of thing because it always reminds me of how vulnerable we are to random violence through no fault of our own. This is all pure speculation, but a parallel investigation complicates matters greatly IMHO. Kyron's disappearance also had parallel investigations, and we still to this day do not know what happened to this 7 year old boy who went missing from his elementary school 5 years ago.

Yeah, annoyed me too!!

I suspect if he is ex-LE he will be privy to information that he wouldn't be if he wasn't. Still, people are trying so hard to help, he should just keep schtum. My sister used to wind me right up singing "I know something you don't know, na na na na naaa naaa". Bugs me to this day...

Maybe instead of putting "To Protect and Serve" on the side of the police cars, they should change it to what is highlighted above.

(P.S.---- If you have access to worms, spiders, or lizards, little sisters will divulge secrets much more readily......try it sometime)

It is getting stranger by the day. First you have the son not being called prior to leaving the casino, not releasing the video of them leaving the parking lot, and now a (secret) parallel investigation. Was it posted up thread that a family member went early on to get financial records for LE? Even with financial records handed to LE, wouldn't LE still need a warrant to obtain data from banks, credit cards, etc.?

Without saying it, they make it sound like someone was in the back seat of the car or something.

And if it is something involving a 3rd party, they may be no where near those roads by now.

If the son has a power of attorney over his parent(s) affairs, then I believe the son could pull all those records himself, and give them to LE, if he wanted, I suppose.
IMOO.

Son Speaks with KMIR about Missing Couple
Kitty Alvarado, KMIR News /NBC, May 17, '15 2:36 am edt,
speaking to their son, who says they are not giving up and that volunteers showed up to search for them in the rain, in this most recent report.

"The main thing is to utilize all those resources and focus in the correct area and the challenge is is knowing where that correct area is,"

"He says department did give him some information but he can't disclose it, "they've asked me to keep that information private so that's what I'm doing."

I am wondering if that was when the son changed his tune (because of LE not wanting him to disclose info), about that he no longer suspects foul play? Maybe foul play should be suspected, but he is supposed to keep quiet, perhaps??
IMOO.

Has anything been reported about how much they won or lost in the casino? A significant amount either way could be a big clue.

Now what? This case is turning into a wild goose chase with no geese around.
At this point, I'm wondering if anyone bothered to check the surrounding hospitals or walk-in clinics?

Just read the whole thread and was going to ask this in connection with murder/suicide if they lost a significant amount. They can't have much of an income.

Parallel investigation: could they have committed a crime there?

LE won't show the video to the public.
Definitely a reason for that,IMOO.

Is that one of the first things LE does, is look at financial records when someone goes missing??
There has to be a reason for that, so early into this, no?
IMOO.

Perhaps a person or persons (like a husband/wife scam team) was spotted on cameras following them around the casino, while they weren't aware of being tracked. Perhaps now that Pandora's box has been opened, they realize this person/team has been around a lot and has a pattern. Maybe LE is closing in on them, but doesn't want to alert them because they need him/her/them to return to the casino soon to do whatever it is they do to another unsuspecting elderly couple.

Unless they have proof that the parents have been withdrawing money, using credit cards, or filling up with gasoline, I don't know what about their disappearance would need to be kept "private".

Oh, and if that IS the case, let the volunteers know so they can quit wasting their money, gas and time trying to help.

If the son is going to make public statements about keeping things "private" and not sharing important details with the search teams, he may find himself searching all alone here very shortly.

The only way his statement has any logical basis, is if LE wanted him to keep it private from the news media, not the people and volunteers that are out beating the bushes.

This missing couple case seems very straight forward to me, although admittedly, I don't have the info the son or LE has.
You have an elderly couple with health issues leave a casino heading to their son's home. The 79 year old male was shown on casino video looking like he had labored breathing. They leave on a drive that has winding dangerous roads that could be difficult for a 79 year old to navigate, let alone anyone not feeling well.

We know which cell tower the ping came from, when, and when the pings stopped. There are only a few reasons why the pings would stop, and the most likely is that the car is now wheels up. I provided my suggestion on where I believe the car will be found upthread. Let's hope that happens today, and God Bless the volunteers!

I don't know... her young sister's tragic death, and the son's ties to criminal activity, make me believe this is less straight forward and simple than it seems. Not that it's all tied together, but there are too many other things going on. MOO

You could very well be right.
Those roads are pretty dangerous, so I keep sticking with the most likely. We'll find out soon, I hope.

I do think the search is being conducted with LE's cooperation, and may not be made public necessarily, as has been done in other cases, that I've noticed. I hope with it being Sunday, that you're right, roses, about today, more people are looking in possible locations. Even if there is the slightest chance it was foul play, whatever information may have been shared with the son, your direction on this still holds true that the car may have been driven out of sight along the more desolate roads that have been suggested.

Criminal activity of trashing a house isn't really the same as, say - stealing money from a casino. I don't understand your including the relevance of a stupid act many years ago that harmed no persons to be associated with his parents missing.
