I'm sitting here this morning, drinking some coffee and catching up on yesterdays posts before I have to get busy with work. I see that their son now agrees that the ping off the I-15 tower is baffling and makes no sense. I agree.

How about this ? They DID turn right on Valley Center road initially, then for whatever reason, made a U-turn and headed BACK towards the Casino. Maybe one of them was feeling sick or weak and decided they should turn around and seek medical attention or possibly head back towards a Walgreens or some other pharmacy based business.

Somewhere along that route, they turned on to what they thought was a short cut or just simply turned left or right onto the wrong road. Because this road is such a ridiculous option for them to have traveled down, nobody is even bothering to search it. If one of them was suffering a medical episode, the panic and desperation would have resulted in faster driving and possibly reckless driving in an attempt to seek help.

If they turned around, they would have been traveling towards the I-15 tower, thus the "ping" coming from that tower. Just because his phone pinged from that tower, doesn't mean they were anywhere close to the I-15/Deer Springs ramp, that's just where the phone pinged.

Personally, I think they are going to find these folks within a few miles of the casino. I think they turned down a road they shouldn't have for whatever reason, and an accident happened shortly thereafter. I can't understand exactly why the phone quit pinging even if they were in an accident, because a cell phone will send out a signal regardless if the vehicle is upright or upside-down. With that in mind, I have to assume they dropped down off of something, or into something, which breaks the signals reception/sending. A ravine, a deep culvert, off a cliff, in water, etc. might result in signal loss.

I think the searchers need to fan out heading east on Valley Center and drive up and down every single road within 3 or 4 miles of the casino. The more unlikely it is that they would have traveled down a certain road, the more that road needs to be searched. Dirt roads, private roads, utility company easements, even wide ATV trails heading off into the brush could have been mistaken for a cut-thru, a short cut, or a turn-around spot. None of us know what frame of mind they were in, or if they were driving in a panic.

Any area deep enough, or steep enough to block a cell phone signal, needs to be investigated post haste. I believe that when they finally locate these folks, everyone is going to be shocked how close they were the entire time.

Was their car equipped with a navigation system or did they normally use a Garmin? Some times my navigation system picks very weird routes which includes smaller roads. Most of the time my husband's navigation system has completely different routes. If they do have a built in navigation system...i would really suggest that someone with the same year and make of car...maybe punch in the sons address from the casino parking lot. It's needs to be the same exact version to produce their same route. Different versions/updates could change the results completely.

Just a thought....which I'm sure has already been thought of.

Thank you for this posting. I agree with most. I am not so sure they went down a new road though. I did earlier suggest that they might have changed drivers because he was sick, possibly did some sort of Y-turn to turn around and go back, and that backing up or turning around action ended fatally.

The cell tower range is pretty far, and they could have been on the other side of the canyon from the tower, and still pinged. I keep saying we need to know the exact range of that cell tower to know the area of highway they were last on, then go from there. The dead zones Forager mapped out should also be reviewed.

That's sort of my line of reasoning as well. A GPS might have taken them the shortest route, instead of the fastest and more practical one. I think more than likely they ended up on a road that no one would ever think to check, since there would be no practical reason for them to be on it. They may have actually typed in an address and the GPS took them on a wild goose chase.

There has to be a logical explanation for their disappearance, it just isn't an obvious one.

The theory would be worthy of deep review if it were determined the son was experiencing significant financial hardship. Elders passing away mysteriously for suspect financial benefit of the children is no new theme. However, as I stated above, I'm sticking with the wheels up theory.
Well in 2012 son and wife were doing jail time for their criminal act and were ordered to pay restitution of $144,000. At that time they were bankrupt and unemployed so I'm thinking they're still under an umbrella of financial hardship.

All I can say about the son is this, if he were to be responsible for their disappearance, he needs to be hailed as one of the greatest criminal masterminds of our time.

First of all, he was with his family, at his home 2 hours away, when his parents disappeared. This means that someone else would have had to be involved and pull off the caper.

This person would have had to follow them, intercept them, kidnap them, shut off their phones, break off the On-Star antennae or disable it, and then transport and hide their vehicle without it being spotted on another video camera.

All of this would have had to be done in broad daylight, on a Sunday afternoon, near a busy Casino, within 15 minutes of their departure, with traffic going both ways, and without a single witness stepping forward to say they saw anything. That is one smart criminal mastermind. The FBI should hire him as a consultant.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just nab them at 2 in the morning from their house ?

While anything is possible, I agree it's highly unlikely IMO.

Has it been confirmed that he was at his house at 2:00 when Cecil and Dianna left the casino?

On the missing facebook page for them, yesterday the administrator mentioned that they have a Blue Link, and that they can't
locate the car if there is no signal.

Also, here is a link for the Blue Link for Hyundai:

Yeah, I did see that. I was actually talking about a navigation system where they put in the address and it will direct them to the address. My navigation system always seems to want to take me on a scenic route with super small roads because it computes the shortest distance from point A to point B which could be little tiny mountain roads. I was just thinking if they indeed were known to use a navigation assistant whether it be one installed in their car or one that they had bought such as a Garmin or TomTom...If searchers can track down the year and version of the program used...they could see the route they were perhaps directed to follow. It is key that they have the same exact software (brand and version updates) because each software will compute trips differently.

So basically...the son needs to tell LE if they were known to use a navigation system...And if so what kind...when did they buy it...etc etc. If he has not already told LE. I would think it would have been addressed. If it was an external system...the son needs to go to their house and search for the box it came...Maybe they saved it?

I don't know if they meant a different navigation system other than Bluelink, but the administrator on the missing facebook page also mentioned no GPS.
IMOO.

Team Amber Rescue volunteers said the group has walked or driven every possible route imaginable. They’ve searched from Indio to Borrego. Every dirt road, paved road and even driveways and Indian land where given permission.

This week, volunteers say they are hoping to get wall-sized maps from Valley View Casino so they can target new search areas beginning this weekend.

There have been just a few tips and the number of volunteers helping in the search has varied between 10 to 50 on different days.

Don't forget both parents worked as school bus drivers. I doubt they had a huge nest egg worth stealing.

In the video they released, they said there were three white cars at the light, You only see two of them, and the first one turn. Did both turn, the second one too? Just reviewing, the grill on the second one seemed more like their car, to me. Could that be a possible discrepancy in determining their route? Link posted here

Yeah, I'd like to know two things about that video.

1) Which one of those cars was suppose to be them.

2) Why can't the t.v. station let the video play in it's entirety instead of cutting it off halfway through ?

That video is useless. It only shows two of the 3 cars, and neither of them shown looks like a Hyundai to me. They look more like SUV's or some kind of hatchback something.

I guess there is a third question.

3) Was that video edited and provided by LE in it's current form , cut off abruptly in the middle and with one car missing entirely ? I guess it could be some of that same old "protecting the integrity of the investigation" stuff.

I was thinking more along the lines of the young woman who was "kidnapped" from Napa a few months back. Nobody dead, just someone reported missing. Too many people cashing in on others generosity ie. those giveme$.com sites etc. It just seems that the family past was thrown in awfully fast when this story first was reported. jmo. I'm hoping Dianna and Cecil are found soon.

I recall it being the case with this video, the ones from inside the casino and just the stills released from the video outside the casino, that LE has not released all the footage.

Maybe people around may have noticed something off? steelman and rosesfromangels' suggestions, that they may have headed somewhere to address a health emergency, been confused, lost control, just where a calamity would also lead to no signals of any type, make sense.

I've plotted my interpretation of the area you describe on the map as the Steelman Hypothesis, and linked it to this post. Please let me know if I'm misunderstand, or if you would prefer not to have it plotted at all.

Here's the link to the map:

I could swear the first link I opened to the video showed all 3 cars. I have no idea which post # that was.
