Criminal activity of trashing a house isn't really the same as, say - stealing money from a casino. I don't understand your including the relevance of a stupid act many years ago that harmed no persons to be associated with his parents missing.

The theory would be worthy of deep review if it were determined the son was experiencing significant financial hardship. Elders passing away mysteriously for suspect financial benefit of the children is no new theme. However, as I stated above, I'm sticking with the wheels up theory.

Just read the whole thread and was going to ask this in connection with murder/suicide if they lost a significant amount. They can't have much of an income.

How do we know what their income is?
I know there are certain things we tend to assume but I know that my deceased fathers case, he worked in mid level management and lived very modestly. No one beyond his closest family and maybe a few close friends knew that financially he was very well off.

That as well as character issues and honesty play important roles. But I'm sticking to TOS (and I'm probably wrong :)).

I believe early on it was stated the son was home with others that day, so the only way is if he hired someone. I really am not seeing it, but nothing surprises me any more after Barway. :(

It was Mother's Day, and the mom who murdered her sister was convicted, other's involved were eventually released, is there even the slightest chance this could be some kind of revenge thing? I'm sorry if this conjecture is out of line, but are there reasons to or to not consider it?

Probably not. Most of the people involved in her sister's case are dead, and the few who aren't try to live under the radar and are in other states. There would be no reason to get "revenge" on an older sister who wasn't even there at the time, 50 years later.

I'm thinking that LE either saw something on video or have a description of someone who was suspicious, or maybe even used one of Cecil/Dianna's bank cards and are trying to keep it quiet during their investigation so they can catch them and not drive them underground. OR they suspect something about the son and of course the son isn't going to say that to media - but who knows; his alibi regarding his whereabouts is probably solid.

It must be true that everyone has a twin somewhere in the world because when I saw Cecil's pic I did a double-take! There was a man who lived in my mother's building approximately 6 years ago that was almost identical to him! She went to assisted living approximately 6 years ago and I had no further reason to go to the building she had lived in.

Honestly, the resemblance is truly amazing! I want so badly for this couple to be found. Prayers for them!

It was more than trashing a house.
Comparing THIS to say "stealing money from a casino", is the SAME to me:

"The couple had been renting out their house for eleven months but prosecutors say they pocketed the rent money instead of paying the mortgage."

To me, That IS Stealing!!
No wonder the house foreclosed!!!

To me, just because of who he and his wife are as people does not mean they have anything to do with his missing
parents. But I gotta say, their actions from their past is being brought up, because they caused their actions, so I understand why the news is reporting it now along with stories about his missing parents. A checkered past can make a person think twice about who he and his wife are, even if they are innocent.
IMOO.

I am floored! I am not even going to go into what kind of people would be so hatefully vindictive to trash a home THEY lost because of THEIR actions. :tsktsk:

Especially since the son was so quick to run to his parents' house to get all that financial info. I mean, you could look at it as being a good and fast sleuth, along with being former LE, or you could look at it as - "I want their money."

Edit: Oops, I should have quoted additional posts. Still, past actions can't be ignored. If someone was greedy and stupid before, they may not have learned from past mistakes.

I don't defend or condone what the couple did relative to that home and their bank, and their behavior does suggest a lawless bent. But that behavior wasn't uncommon during the mortgage crisis of '07 and on. Hundreds of thousands of people defaulted on mortgages, and lived in, or rented houses for which they weren't making their mortgage payments anymore. Many could have continued to make payments, and made a financially driven decision not to. Some did it to spite lenders who bore a big share of the blame in getting homeowners into the bind they faced. The couples' vandalism was over the top and somewhat unusual, but many tens of thousands of people simply let their homes fall apart and/or abandoned them to the same effect.

Oh I agree. I'm really leaning towards something happening to this couple that has nothing to do with their son.

I keep hoping that they decided to take an impromptu road trip without telling anyone (and not realizing the impact their lack of contact has nowadays, with everyone always being so reachable), but so much time has passed that I know it's unlikely. Plus, their kids say they're always so good about calling or texting to check in. Ugh, I just want them found!

Thank you, Psychedelia, you make much sense to me. I agree

None of us are in a position to exonerate, I guess they worked it out between them and the bank. I'm not getting hinky from the son as LE has shared information with him and he seems to be on the ball in advocating for their being found. People do stupid things during stupid times in their lives. He harmed himself and property, not others.

Family organizes vigil, continues search for missing Fullerton couple
By Jordan Graham, The Orange Register, May 17, '15, 7:40 pm

[...]

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said it still doesn't know what happened and hasn't ruled out foul play.

[...]

"father's cell phone pinged off one tower at the casino and then another by the intersection of Deer Springs Road and I-15 in Escondido."

"The (cell phone records) don't make sense," Smith said. "There are three paths he could have taken (to get to La Quinta).... and Deer Springs has nothing to do with those paths, which is weird."

Candlelight vigil being held for missing couple
10News, Digital Team 1:39 pm, May 17, '15

In all likelihood, there was an accident. Reading the OC Register update, however, the possibility occurs to me that Mr Knutson's phone might have not been in his possession when he left the casino (ping at casino and then nothing until I15?). My mom lives in Valley Center and has "lost" her phone at that casino a few times. The last time, she called her own phone and someone offered to meet her and return it for a couple hundred dollars. My brother and I have asked her not to go there alone anymore.
