Honestly, I think they may have had a medical emergency on the road and/or got turned around and lost, resulting in an accident. I'm just surprised they haven't been found yet. It's the - apparently - not eating that I find strange. That's going to cause problems for a diabetic.

I have a vague hinky feeling, but nothing I can articulate here.
About the eating...It's hard to explain to a non-gambler or even a casual gambler...but when you are really into casinos and slot machines you seem to lose all appetite and it's replaced by adrenaline. I know they were diabetic and I'm sure they knew the importance of eating but sometimes people just don't care. I can't tell you how many elderly people I've seen with breathing machines sitting at machines with smokers all around. These same elderly people not even thinking about getting up....they stay there for hours and hours. Someone else here in the thread even mentioned peeing in cups right there at the machine cuz they don't want to leave that machine. Anyways...I don't feel it's that strange that they did not eat. I do feel it's a tragedy that they didn't. Perhaps an accident could have been prevented or it may not have made a difference. :(

Thank you, Treelights, for the update, and information. Sorry to ask, but is that new video on the link, haven't been able to stream it?

Private Investigator Believes Missing Couple May Have Crashed
The search continued on May 23 for Dianna Bedwell and Cecil Knutson, a Fullerton, Calif., couple who vanished on Mother’s Day after a trip to Valley View Casino

By Monica Garske and Diana Guevara, 3 hrs ago report that

"area near State Route 76 leading to Valley View and Pala casinos.

[... is where the PI was searching]

"scouring everywhere between Indio and Borrego to no avail.

[... is where Team Amber searched]

The volunteers said they hoped to get wall-sized maps so they could begin targeting even more search areas."

I don't think there's new video. There's photos at the top, then two videos below which have dates underneath them.

A bit off topic here, but the casinos in Cripple Creek, Colorado do not allow smoking! :) They used to allow smoking years ago. It was so hard to breath then! Of course the smoker's aren't happy , but us non smokers are thankful!

Private Investigator Believes Missing Couple May Have Crashed

Now, the couple’s family has hired Bill Garcia, a private investigator to work on the case.
Garcia said he believes the couple may have been involved in a car accident and their wreckage wound up in an area that’s difficult to see or access.

“I believe it’s likely a case that they may have gone off the road,” Garcia said.

On Saturday, Garcia and a local volunteer continued searching for the couple amid the rough terrain in the Valley Center area near State Route 76 leading to Valley View and Pala casinos.

Though the task has proven difficult, it’s one that Garcia is willing to undertake.

“There are things that the common person wouldn’t know to look for, that we do,” he explained. “At this time of the year the undergrowth has a lot of rebound so a vehicle could go right into a bush and you’ll never know it’s there.”

Though the task has proven difficult, it’s one that Garcia is willing to undertake.

I think he must have read this entire thread, from beginning to end.

Thank you for saying this! I have never been to a casino, it's just not my thing, so I found it strange. From what you've said, maybe they were just so caught up in the games that they ignored/didn't think to eat.

I appreciate your response, and maybe my mild hinky needs to be put away.

I think if I was not once a hard core gambler I would find it weird too. When my husband and I would go on weekend trips...I would always lose at least 5 lbs along with tons of money.

Also just wanted to mention that playing slot machines for more than 2 hours at a time really messes with your eyes. The lights and bright colors...The spinning. The older you are the worse it is. It would definitely affect driving ability in my opinion.

Are ya flattered a lil, steelman? I've learned so much following your posts over that last couple of weeks as they've searched for the Knutsons, Paul and Dianna.

I might feel a little flattered if they had actually found 'em, but I'm really disappointed that they haven't. Every day that ticks off the calender is another day closer to this not being a rescue mission, but more of a recovery mission.

I'm still under the assumption that since the Knutson's were in charge of the desserts for the party, they may have had an ice chest or a cooler full of cookies, cake or brownies in the car with them. They were at the casino for hours, you would think they would have had the stuff iced down in someway, not just baking in a hot car out in the parking lot. Were they to crash and be trapped inside the car, if they could gain access to the cooler or it's contents, it might help to keep them alive until they were found.

But two full weeks is a long time to live off of cookies and bottled water, even for a young healthy person. It may all just be wishful thinking on my part anyway, but just because their car went off the road and got disabled, doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't a survivable accident. They could be trapped inside the vehicle, or, it is in an area that is too treacherous for them to try and summon help.

The people out searching are the ones doing all the sweating and the legwork......all I can do is try to keep the cheering section alive. If they need to use our ideas in order to help find these people, then it will have all been worth it.

BTW--Below is the Facebook page for the P.I. in charge of the search, Bill Garcia. He doesn't update it all that often, but he does comment about the search off and on.

Also, Paul was a marine corps veteran, he should have some survival skills.

I don't know much about diabetes so I am asking. How would not eating effect diabetics? Can they not eat and maybe have some hard candy? If they take pills will they be ok. This is confusing to me. Thank you for any information. I check in every day hoping for some good news that they have been found...alive.

I'm not too family with it either but I do know that diet is important. Daily finger pokes to make sure your blood sugar is not to high or to low. I thinks it's more than just eating candy or popping a sugar cube when you think your blood sugar is low. I dunno.

Steelman, I'm enjoying following the action on your map. But I'm a little envious of how you manage to get letters to appear in your map marker icons. I hadn't thought that Google My Maps could do that. How do you manage it?

I don't have diabetes but my FIL did before he passed away from cancer. He managed his diabetes quite well. He checked his blood sugar regularly. He told me he could keep his blood sugar from fluctuating too much during the day by taking his medicines (he did use insulin) at the same time every day and maintaining a schedule for meals. I only remember a couple of occasions where he needed juice or candy to bring his blood sugar level up. He always knew when it was necessary because he would get shaky. Below is a link to some easy to understand information on diabetes. I hope this helps for those of you who had questions.

Found this news on the local news website.

Might be them.

If it is them. It would raise a big question as to why they went off the main road so far into some deserted back road that's probably not even paved as its outline is vague on the map.

Just reported on ABC local news. So many questions if this is them. Most obvious is that Dianna surviving on her own for this long is a miracle. Was someone else involved?

No way is this the route they would have taken on their own.

Looking at a map, I think they took Hwy 76 to Hwy 79 (79 takes you over the mountain and into La Quinta). They may have turned onto 79 and continued and missed the turn to stay on 79 and instead went straight, which would lead them to where they were found.
I've driven in the area and I think I would have gone that way instead of all the way west and around.

Edited to add: I wish I could post a map, but it you do a map with directions from Valley Center to Schoepe Scout Reservation you'll see immediately what I mean.

I feel like Paul is the kind of guy that would sacrifice himself for her giving her more food, water, etc.
If this is them.
