The working theory was that he choked her to death in the bathroom of their home. Made sense to me. No murder weapon except Scott himself.
Actually I read somewhere that they thought he used the cord of a lamp to strangle her. A broken lamp was found.

But Joran Van Der Sloot was never tried and convicted of Natalee's death. He murdered her and no body ever found.
True. I think that's what the Lee's were banking on. But karma came back to bite Joran with his next murder- he left the body, didn't have time to escape with her.

I have been reading all of the links and still cannot tell how they found her. Was the mine in an area they were actively searching on Saturday??

I hesitate to ask this, but did they say whether the remains were skeletonized or not? I was just wondering, um, what the would have to work with for the autopsy. In Tennessee, caves are generally cool - around 59 degrees - all the time. I've only been west once, so I wonder what it's like down in those mines and whether it would help preserve her or speed up decay.

Sheriff's Office said they are going to give reporter's additional information; is that going to be today, anyone remember? I wonder if they are waiting until the Coroner determines COD and if she was pregnant?

it seemed more information was released shortly after the press conference and was tweeted by local reporters...that might have been what you are referring to, but I hope I am wrong!

Yes, it was. They had narrowed down which mines to look in based on electronic/forensic evidence they had (e.g., cell phone pings and computer searches, etc. of CL) & her car was sighted a few miles northeast and outside of JTNP, so they knew she never went there according to press conference today.

If you read back to the pages where posters reported what they heard at the press conference, you will find the sheriff/LE said they analyzed informations from electronic devices and those led them to search those mines. In one of them they found Erin.

I was just thinking about this and how much evidence (and COD) they could gather from the body after nearly 2 months. I searched a bit and read that a body decays nearly 8 times faster on land than underground. I'm not sure if a mine would have the same air quality, etc as what would be considered "underground", but thought I'd share. But I'm fairly certain it was well preserved and they will be able to get all the info they need. I cannot for the life of me find the site I read it on.

Btw, I hope I'm not showing disrespect by bringing this up so soon.

RIP Erin and baby. So sad for her family.

Hope CL (and whoever helped him) rots in jail or...worse.

Incredible job done by LE.

INCIDENT: Missing Person Investigation – Murder Investigation

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms

VICTIM: Erin Corwin, age 19 of Twentynine Palms

SUSPECT: Christopher Brandon Lee, 24, Anchorage, Alaska – In custody

UPDATE:
During the nearly eight week extensive investigation and search, using forensics and technology, Detectives were able to identify a possible location of Erin Corwin.

The search area covered approximately 300 square miles, including the areas of Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, Amboy, Twentynine Palms Marine Corp Base and areas covered by Bureau of Land Management. Aerial searches identified more than 100 mine shafts and numerous bodies of water that were searched by the Technical Cave and Mine Teams and Specialized Dive Teams. Nearly 5,000 volunteer hours were dedicated to this search.

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, the search teams focused on the areas of Rose of Peru Mining District, Brooklyn Mining District and Los Angeles Mining District. At approximately 4:30 p.m., using video equipment, a body was located in a mine shaft approximately 140 feet below.

On Sunday, due to the depth and air quality of the mine shaft, County Fire Urban Search and Rescue Team responded to assist in the recovery. The recovery was complete at 6:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m. our Forensic Odontologist, made a positive identification using dental records. At 10:00 p.m. Christopher Lee was arrested in Anchorage, Alaska for the murder of Erin Corwin.

An autopsy was conducted today and the manner of death has been determined to be homicide.

The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as new information becomes available.

SUMMARY:
Detectives have received information regarding possible locations to be searched for potential evidence of foul play regarding the disappearance of 19-year-old Erin Corwin. The information is the result of an extensive three-week investigation.

“We are looking for a crime scene,” said Leland Boldt, the captain of the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigation Division.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigation Division have spoken to numerous persons who knew Erin prior to her disappearance looking for any and all information that may lead them to Erin’s whereabouts. It is imperative investigators determine whether or not there was foul play, Sgt. Trevis Newport said. Search warrants have been executed as part of this investigation to assist investigators in determining what may have occurred.

Further information regarding the facts outlined in the search warrant will not be discussed. It is unfortunate such extensive details were released regarding this investigation because it can affect the outcome of the case. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has a responsibility to Erin’s family, her loved ones and her unborn child to provide answers regarding her disappearance. It is essential the integrity of the investigation be maintained in order for justice to be served.

Christopher Lee was known to Erin Corwin prior to her disappearance and as a result of their contact, a search warrant was issued in the 700 block of Geronimo Trail in Yucca Valley. Investigators located a destructive device and arrested Lee for its possession, per PC18710(a). Lee was arrested for a felony charge not related to the disappearance of Erin Corwin. The case regarding the arrest for the destructive device has been completed and forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for filing.

Although suspicious circumstances have existed from the inception of this investigation there is still not enough evidence to rule out that Erin Corwin could be voluntarily missing. It is crucial all acquaintances be contacted and interviewed, in an effort to solve the case.

Investigators continue to ask anyone with information about Erin Corwin is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigation Division at (909) 387-3589 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (909) 387-8313. I'm glad the sleuthers here are kind and supportive. I've been reading comments on a major news networks FB page and people are saying such ugly things about the victim it makes my blood boil. She did not deserve to be murdered. My heart goes out to her husband and her family.

I read what you have read - I HAD to post on there - people just make me sick!
