You are right. That child may have appeared dead or unconscious...

Leila looked like a petite little girl. Someone could have walked up behind her, and simply restrained her and covered her mouth. She may not have been able to put up any kind of fight...I pray this monster did walk up behind her, and she never knew what happened to her. Poor little baby....No threat to anyone, but surely a joy to everyone she touched.
 
Oh, I hope an arrest is made soon. I suppose it's just a waiting game, to see what this "major announcement" is. Thank you for the link to the video!

I wonder if they maybe very close to an arrest because someone is confessing??? IDK just a thought that went through my mind, because I find it a little odd since they don't have a "named" suspect or even a sketch of the long grey haired man. But, something seems to be almost ready to go down.

It's not likely. If someone confessed they would know where to go pick up whatever evidence it is they are looking for.
 
A "major announcement" could be that they have a POI.
Or it could be that they have eliminated a POI.
It could be anything... and likely is nothing major.
Unless this is like Sierra's.... where everyone thought they had nothing and all along they had a suspect.

It's my hunch they're beginning to get back some helpful evidence results from the DNA testing that was supposed to take a week or so. Fingers crossed! (And I'm waiting to see if another hunch will play out...)

Is this a connection police are now looking at, or something that just happened?

If the crimes WERE connected and Leila isn't connected to the elderly couple...
That certainly would point a bit more towards a robbery gone bad.
Maybe he thought no one was home and then silenced witnesses when he was wrong?
Heather Dawn Church was apparently killed for that reason... so it does happen.

Could be. But then, they did admit to the rape kit on Leila...though no comment on results. Was the elderly couple a sexual assault as well? (Not familiar with that case.)

I think they walked into that scene and went "WTF?"
And when a child is killed by a non family member, it's often a sexual motive.
So I think they did the rape kit to be thorough.

My thinking was just that elderly and a child... the common motive could be silencing a witness.
IF they are connected. With the stabbing I can see why they are looking into it. :twocents:
 
LE seems to be implying a big "break" at any moment. they have had some positive (that word could be interpreted a few ways) DNA results returned. i also believe LE said something about expecting to make an important announcement soon to the public. with all that being said, tomorrow is leilas funeral. i get the impression LE is waiting til leila is finally put to rest before they make their big move/announcement. out of respect for leila and her family i can totally see LE wanting to wait until after the funeral. does anyone else see this connection or am i off base here?

At that link it says Oliver J. "Chip" Northup, 87 was the husband who was stabbed--also that he was a prominent atty. Wondered if someone got out of prison and it was pay back time, but it appears he was a defense atty, so that's probably a bit less likely...

The murder of the couple was BEFORE Leila's murder.
April 13 or 14 also a weekend... possibly also a Saturday.

They were killed Saturday night or Sunday morning.
No obvious motive in this case either.

According to Northup&#8217;s family, the couple was found laying in their bed.
Family members called police after not hearing from the couple.
Without any obvious motive&#8212;the Northups say nothing was taken from the couple&#8217;s home&#8212;they are at a loss.

Someone could have been angry and felt he didn't defend him (or a family member) as well as he could have.

All the tweet says is that Davis LE is looking into whether the murders are connected. It seems like almost a standard procedure (find similar crimes in the area) but I'm not super hopeful that they are.
 
If I lived there, I'd be on edge next weekend. Just in case. :twocents:
