He was arrested for failing to appear in court last Tuesday, the day Marysa went missing. Those charges are felony second degree burglary, receiving known stolen property and possession of a smoking device.

... He was supposed to be in court the day of the murder. So he decides to kill an innocent girl instead of going to court. Probably some sort of trigger for him.

I am totally concerned about the clothes thing, some belonging to someone else and that someone else having a history of crimes against young girls. What if (pure speculation only)..he was unable to know his actions on the day in question(due to heavy use of drugs) and his friends said..look at this, it is you and we are making sure (while under the influence and potentially lacking clarity) that he "turns himself in". All the while someone else commited this crime while wearing his shorts? (Friends that had access to his belongings)

March 1, 2013 - Police have appealed for help in identifying a man spotted outside a high school just 90 seconds before a 14-year-old girl went missing and just yards away from where she was later found murdered Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-murder-California-girl-14.html#ixzz2Mo5pwEBC

March 2, 2013 - Bealer was released early saturday per the krcrtv link above

Saturday late morning - I asked him why he was cutting through the high school at 11:30 a.m. and he said to me that he was going to court" said Ouellette. That's contrary to what Bealer told another friend though, that he went to the field to pick up a stolen ATV http://www.krcrtv.com/news/local/Me...l-7/-/14322302/19179232/-/w6si48/-/index.html

if anyone can think of anything else that is known about the timeline that I have missed please chime in. TIA

Well he was the POI on video which puts him at the scene of the murder. The other men might have been working or have alibi's. I'm sure they have more evidence than just his confession.

TL, thank you for the timeline!

Interesting that he goes to the high school right after being released from jail on other charges. I can't believe he was ARRESTED on the SAME day Marysa dissapears. He must have gone to look for evidence and he would have found out Marysa's body was discovered. I wonder if he was wearing those shorts when he was arrested? Did he dump them before his Tuesday arrest or when he was released on the Saturday?

EDIT: Bealer wasn't arrested on the same day Marysa went missing but on the Friday.

Actually, he was arrested Friday night for not appearing in court (on other charges) the very morning Marysa went missing. He was expected at a hearing on those charges on Tuesday morning. He should have been in court, instead he was apparently busy - killing or preparing to kill Marysa :(

BBM THIS! This would be good to know.

As to her I-Pod, I think odds are it is in the creek somewhere. :(

ETA I fixed the timeline because the wording of that article snip being located where it was did cause confusion when I went back and looked at my timeline.

Did LE ever state what time the surveillance video was from? Just curious because his friend said he asked him what he was doing on the surveillance at 11:30 and I don't remember them saying what time the video was from. Going to check links.

I do not think LE has released the time stamp.

Closest we can get is assumption: she was spotted on the video 90 seconds after he is seen and that was ostensibly between the times of 11 am when she should have been meeting her friends but didn't and 1 pm when she should have been back in class.

Further complicating things is that an unidentified witness saw her at 11:45 near the tennis courts.

"He was arraigned today on the charge of one count of open murder, which means we can proceed on several different theories," Tehama County District Attorney Gregg Cohen said.
The open count of murder could be charged as felony murder, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life with the option of a special circumstance request for death penalty, Cohen said.
It is too early to say whether or not the death penalty will be requested, he said.
The other two options are first-degree murder, which carries a sentence of 25 to life and second-degree murder, which carries a sentence of 15 years to life, he said.

The guestbook for Marysa added some pictures. She was such a beautiful child; she looked so happy and so loved in all of those pictures.

Hopefully some changes are made at schools everywhere so nothing like this can happen. I just still can't understand how a kid can go missing from school and be found dead behind it. If a kid doesn't show up for class, is nothing done? I know that kids skip classes often but I don't think it would take too much time to call a parent and say you're kid didn't make it to class today.

My daughter's elementary school doesn't even call if she is absent and the middle school where one of sons go doesn't call until 7-8pm if he is absent. My son in high school has a swipe card that he must swipe every time he goes somewhere in the school but I don't know what their policy is if he doesn't go to his assigned class or he is absent because that hasn't happened yet.

I know that a phone call to the parent probably wouldn't have saved Marysa but maybe it could have made some kind of difference. I don't know, I just wish that Marysa would have been able to grow up in to a beautiful and happy young lady...

Quentin Ray Bealer sat in the courtroom dressed in orange and red inmate clothing, his hands shackled to his sides and his head bowed, quietly listening as the judge stated he was charged with a single count of murder

It was the first time Bealer has been seen publicly since his arrest on Saturday, and possibly the first time he realized the gravity of the situation.

Shackled as he walked into the courtroom, Quentin Bealer took a hard look at the press and public that came to see him charged. Security was tighter than normal in the room. Extra officers were brought in to prevent any vigilantism.

"He was arraigned today on the charge of one count of open murder, which means we can proceed on several different theories," Tehama County District Attorney Gregg Cohen said. "This is a team effort and has been since the beginning.

The team is still at work as we speak and it's still too early in the investigation.

We need the Department of Justice reports and reports from every law enforcement agency involved before we can finalize the charges."

Marysa's mom has issued a statement in the RIP Marysa NIchols FB page regarding the funeral service.

To paraphrase, she thanks everyone for their support, prayers and well wishes. She asks that the funeral not be inundated with attendees who are not family or friends who knew Marysa as the venue is very small and cannot accommodate a large influx of attendees. She asks consideration for Marysas family and friends.

I actually came here to post this. I may be going to the one at the Pizza joint tonight. Mr Nowheregrrl works in Red Bluff and this whole thing has been driving me up a tree. I can't imagine.

I knew you would end up being a local nowheregrrl. :) Thanks for your input. We are blessed when we have locals posting on cases. They are able to provide the flavor of the area in a way that news articles simply cannot.

“Even just her smile could make you feel better,” she said. Marysa loved the British pop band One Direction because she liked its beats and thought they were cute, Bartlett said.

Marysa often said she wanted to marry One Direction’s Niall Horton.
Marysa also had a glowing compassion for others and always tried to cheer people up.
“Three weeks ago, (Marysa posted) you people who are teasing Curtis: He’s the greatest brother ever,” she said. Now, “he’s hurting because his defender is gone.”

Nichols' band teacher at Red Bluff High School, Gabe Sakuma, recalled at the memorial that Nichols found solace in music.

"I am so glad to say that I was there for when Marysa was happy, when Marysa was joyous, when Marysa could be her self," Sakuma said, adding, "I would like everybody to find the solace. The love going onwards that they really need. I would also ask that you do go, and you do sit down and listen to that music that you love. Listen to the music that Marysa loved. Even if it's 'One Direction.'"

The brief moments of levity throughout the service were welcomed by those who were remembering Nichols.

According to a search warrant affidavit and return obtained Tuesday by the Record Searchlight, Marysa's body was found two days after her Feb. 26 disappearance lying face down in a wooded area between Red Bluff High School and Bidwell Elementary School.

Her body was covered by a foam object and shrubbery that appeared to have been pulled from the immediate area and placed on her head, the documents said.
Her pants were buttoned and did not appear to have been disturbed, the document adds, but her chest was partially exposed. Marysa's green sweatshirt was found at her feet and a gray zippered sweatshirt was found near her head, the affidavit said.

According to the court document, she had an injury on her right forearm and face and a yellow cloth-type item was wrapped tightly around her neck.

Marysa's autopsy found she died of strangulation by ligature, Red Bluff authorities said last week.
