JVM had a story on last night. A mural was painted somewhere in the search area for Matrice. JVM had it blanked out because she said it was too pornographic. However, she claimed the woman portrayed strongly resembled Matrice right down to the hair style. It was a huge mural that must have taken a long time to paint. Police are trying to get evidence from paint lids and brushes.

Matrice's mother believes it might be related to the case. She repeatedly expressed her desire for help from the FBI.

I don't usually watch that show but for some reason last night it was on. Extremely disturbing mural.

I posted on this thread back in October about how I couldn't believe that she had been missing for three weeks, and now I can't believe she has been missing approximately nine months.

She is missing from where I grew up. That is where I am from, my old stomping grounds. This case bothers me greatly.

Here is an interesting article I came across this morning...
http://malibusurfsidenews.com/stories/201006/201006170001.html

The possible implications of the 'mural' are so sinister. Who would paint such a thing? How many people would it take to paint it? One? Two? A group? How long would it take to paint it?

Are the 'artists' involved in her disappearance? Or, do they just get a perverted thrill by cruelly tormenting a desperate family?

Is this a hate crime? Here is a blanket generalization, but that area is not what anyone would consider 'racist' at all. I realize though, that racism, as well as misogyny, is an individual defect that can be intensified when shared with a like-minded person.

At first I was worried that she may have gotten lost, and fallen in the dark down a culvert, and died. Now I am even more worried that someone recognized her confused state of mind, and took advantage of her vulnerability in being alone, outside, in the dark of night, and abducted her.

I wish I could see that mural with my own eyes, so I could get a 'feel' for the painter's 'message'.

Okay, I found and viewed the uncensored pics of the mural myself, and admit I am no more 'enlightened' than I was before.

I pray that the authorities will be able to link the 'artwork' to the 'artist' somehow.

An interesting detail from the article linked above by "smart blonde":

"An LASD video of Richardson in the Lost Hills booking cage that has only been shown to Sutton (Mitrice's mother) and members of her close inner circle of family and supporters is described by them as disturbing.

They say she appears to be in a state of mental stress, is unable to complete telephone calls and then curls up on the floor in a fetal position. However, the jailer has described her as lucid and coherent and said she engaged Richardson in conversation about music and other topics."

I don't know if this has already been discussed.

Where did you find the pics? I'm confused about this mural!

I read about the mom having seen the police station videos, but not what was actually seen on the tape.

For whatever reason, police did not do what was right or reasonable for a woman appearing to having some mental difficulties. That includes releasing her into the night, without transportation, up in canyon country.

I saw the uncensored murals also.
I am not sure what the 'artist' is trying to say.

Does the artist know Mitrice? Did he/she find Mitrice in the canyon right after she disappeared?

or
Is it just someone who appears to not like African American women?

If the police do have dna, etc., and maybe someone wandering about with paint on their hands, at least they can ask questions.

This is sooooooooo disturbing. Shame, shame, shame on them.

Weren't we led to believe in the very beginning that the Sheriff's Office video camera was broken so there was NO video of Matrice?

Now we read that a video was shown to her mother.

Yes! OMG. Poor Mitrice. Even the folks at the restaurant were more concerned about her well-being.

Poor little girl. I sooooo hope she's alive and fairly safe somewhere and just not able to pull it together enough to contact her family.

I have asked my peeps in the L.A. area to keep an eye out. Course, they think I'm a nutcase!

Thank you so much dreamweaver!

I still don't get it. Why do they believe this mural has anything to do with Mitrice?

After looking at the uncensored pictures I'm wondering the same thing. Yes, they may be derogatory pics towards AA women, but I don't see any relation to Matrice.

BTW, I haven't looked at her pictures in a long time, such a beautiful young lady. Prayers for her and her family.

I don't understand what the mural has to do with Mitrice either. I viewed it at the bringmitricehome.org website, and all I saw are pornographic depictions of african american women. I don't see a connection, and honestly, the faces on the women look like many of the graffiti faces that I've seen before. I don't see anything that actually depicts Mitrice, or suggests that it has to do with her except for the fact that they are african american women. Of all the pictures I've seen of Mitrice, I have yet to see one of her with an afro. I thought she had beautiful (possibly) relaxed hair.

The things that make you go hmm..... :waitasec:

imo..

Mitrice's situation reflects basic mental health rights in this country that hold "freedom of choice" outweighs "protection from potential harm". An adult person person can only be legally held in detention against their will for mental evaluation in most cases if

They are a harm to others. The legal standard is very high here. Convicted murderers and rapists are not held against their will for "mental unfitness" after release despite a proven propensity to butcher and kill others. Mitrice had not been making realistic threats or done any actual harm to others or even the property of another. A vague reference to "avenging Michael Jackson's death" would never hold up to legal scrutiny in this case. It was a blanket statement; not a targeted threat against a known individual.

They are a harm to themselves. The legal standard involves police knowing of a plan, threat, means, of doing injury to oneself. I have not read any report that mentions any of these circumstances in Mitrice's case.

The mentally ill in this country are allowed freedom of choice and freedom of movement, even when it appears against their best interest to others in the community. A mentally ill person can receive a disability check from the government or possess ample assets that would allow them to obtain permanent housing and food. However, it is perfectly legal for them to take their money and make paper airplanes out of it and sleep in the streets half starving.

If a citizen can't be required even to have a stable, safe residence to live in, how can we expect some cop to take one look at an obviously troubled, confused, adult woman and legally hold her against her will......when that officer doesn't even have a witness statement to write up credibly implying Mitrice was going to hurt herself or someone else?

Her family made vague statements that Mitrice was "not herself" or something along those lines to authorities. People at the restaurants clearly stated Mitrice was acting strangely. However, I have never heard her parents or anyone else even imply that they knew or suspected or stated to the authorities that she was a real, imminent threat to herself or anyone else.

After the fact, we seem to be upset that Mitrice was not protected from making foolish decisions and harming herself or placing herself in harm. The courts have ruled strongly, repeatedly, and unequivocally that law enforcement has to meet clear, objective standards before they take it upon themselves to detain us against their will and deprive us of our liberty even if the officer knows a citizen is acting "weird" "odd" "stupid" or clearly against self interest.

I did hear on JVM that the mural depicted women with the same hairstyle Matrice was wearing when she was last seen. Did I hear that correctly? Was she wearing an afro?

It would show in her mugshot from the night she was arrested.
I can't remember if her hair was in an afro or in dreadlocks. (I seem to remember her hair being more in a dreadlock style).

ETA: I believe it is being speculated by the family that the mural depicts Mitrice because 1). it was discovered in an area that was known by the public to be a coming focus of search efforts, 2). because it's sole subject was pornographic illustrations of African American women, 3). One of the illustrations showed what appears to be a tattoo on the buttock that says "L.A.", and Mitrice is from the Los Angeles area.

~ Does anyone here know if Mitrice had a tattoo on her buttocks that said "L.A."?
