Overnight, crime scene tape was also strung around Clover Road Baptist Church, which will be searched later Tuesday, said Sgt. Tony Sheneman with the Tracy Police Department at a news conference Tuesday morning. The church pastor, Lane Lawless, lives in the Orchard Estates mobile home park.

News10 talked to Lawless and his wife Connie. The pastor said he spent all night talking to police. He said they were being questioned because they know the Cantu family and Sandra and live just a few doors down from them.

"They're just covering every base they're going to cover," said Connie Lawless. "We were close friends with her. We lived just down the street. That's the only reason."

When asked if he had anything to do with the girl's disppearance, Lane Lawless said, "No."

This gives me every indication they are indeed looking at the Pastor.

IMO No one here is accusing the pastor of anything, including the astrologers. We are utilizing various forensic astrology techniques over on the forensic thread. There are some connections, and we're just researching them at the present time.

Well, of course that's what I meant. The point is, people are going vigilante here and that's insane. They obviously have a very small church, with limited attendance. What do you think this will do to him and the church if it turns out to be somebody else?

The church, if usually unoccupied would be a good place to molest a child without being disturbed. If they are searching the church, they have a reason. Just an aside, my cousin's son was molested by a pastor's son in a church.

I wonder if Sandra attended that church. Is their a "youth pastor" That's a favorite job for pedophiles.

Thanks ... this is interesting ... Tracy Sgt. Tony Sheneman said this morning that a man they previously questioned during the initial investigation is a suspect but said no one has been detained or arrested.

I would think if Sandra was a member at their church, it would have been mentioned here - the wife specifically says that they were close friends and lived down the street - not that they were members of their church. KWIM?

Hi Nora, I respect what you are saying.

In this case however we know this man's home and his place of employment, or church, has been searched. And the shed at his church is being referred to as an active crime scene. He is in the mix whether he wants to be or not and believe he is fair game for comments at this time. If he is not involved at all that will be stated by LE and we will take our commentary as part of the learning process in Sleuthing to try and discover what happened to Sandra. IMO xox

Any priors in California would be more likely since he's been in CA since 1981. I originally posted Washington earlier this a.m. because he did live there as a young adult (and, it appears, a teenager).

Didn't find him in the CA registry. Tried looking at WA state, but they seem to do everything by County and it was very cumbersome. He has been in CA since 1970, so I agree, there probably is not much to be found in Washington - except maybe his birth cert? Don't know how to get that info though, hmmmmmm

I knew it was, but I wanted to clarify it before someone jumped all over it.

It will depend on how he deals with the situation, imo. To be involved in the murder investigation on any level of an 8yo girl is not going to be taken lightly by people either inside or on the outside of that church no matter how it turns out or who did this.

Donations should be sent to the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation at 301 Downey Avenue, Modesto, California, 95354, attn. Sandra Cantu. As of Monday, the foundation's reward to find Sandra was over $30,000.

I reread the quote and it states:

Doesn't that seem odd to anyone? You'd think she would say "we were close friends with the family" not just her.

That just set my "hinky-meter" off again. Goes back to the gentleman that stated she had mostly adult friends.
