bbmLauren reportedly commented, “Well, if it had to happen, it was not the worst time in their lives to be murdered—they had finally gotten to know my son.”

It doesn't sound like HS/BS being spouses, who were so very thrilled to be grandparents also of their only bio grandchild, otherwise it wouldn't have lasted years to know the sweet boy (who looked like being school age already?).
I'm wondering about, what LS said or especially how she said it. In my eyes it isn't much better than that, what JS said about his parents (Yin and Yang, lock and key, useless on their own). Very different, but just as absurd to say. But this is only MOO, of course. A feeling.
I think, both children (LS/JS) didn't express their horror at the double-murder and didn't express, that they would want to find the responsible person. It seems fine as it is. Or they were not sure, if it was indeed M/S, when they spoke. Maybe.
