Lauren reportedly commented, “Well, if it had to happen, it was not the worst time in their lives to be murdered—they had finally gotten to know my son.”

It doesn't sound like HS/BS being spouses, who were so very thrilled to be grandparents also of their only bio grandchild, otherwise it wouldn't have lasted years to know the sweet boy (who looked like being school age already?).
I'm wondering about, what LS said or especially how she said it. In my eyes it isn't much better than that, what JS said about his parents (Yin and Yang, lock and key, useless on their own). Very different, but just as absurd to say. But this is only MOO, of course. A feeling.
I think, both children (LS/JS) didn't express their horror at the double-murder and didn't express, that they would want to find the responsible person. It seems fine as it is. Or they were not sure, if it was indeed M/S, when they spoke. Maybe.

HS and BS were absolutely thrilled to be grandparents. They adored their grandchildren and did not think in terms of Biological grand children. I know people who knew them and they could not have been happier.

I’m inclined to give some benefit of the doubt. I’m sure most people were still in shock in those early days (understatement). Also, a person can dislike their parents or even be estranged from their parents without murdering them or even wanting them dead. Family relationships can be complicated. And it sounds like all of the kids had issues with their parents in one form or another. I don’t think non-optimal responses by people like Kaelen or Lauren mean a lot, personally. Although in many ways Kaelen benefited the most, compared to where she started from. MOO.

I don't believe, LS wanted her parents dead, especially since I don't know anything else about her.

Where Kaelen came from ??

I can’t imagine LS wanting her parents dead either- but I did notice during the funeral that she was smiling - perhaps out of anxiety? Am I reading too much into this? AK and KS both look very upset so I think that’s why LS’s expression stood out more for me JMO

Do you have an image or link of this? Could it be a grimace?

I you go to YouTube you can see the full version of the service. When the family are escorted in Alex Sherman and Barry Shermans sister look like they are about to collapse.
Also Jon Sherman makes a beeline for Trudeau and Tory at the end of the funeral. I felt like his long weird eulogy was his coming out moment. Well almost an hour.

That reminded me of Pierre Trudeau's funeral. Justin have a wonderful eulogy and when he finished speaking he went to the casket and cried. What a difference between he and JS, in so many ways. Both had public funerals but one repeatedly took shots at his parents. Even of you don't feel it there are things you shouldn't say.

It has always bugged me why the killer chose the Canadian Tire belts to stage or pose them.

What if the killer knew how Barry felt about possessions and knew that’s what *he* would have chosen? (Like in Raiders of the Lost Arc when they were choosing the Holy Grail and Indy knew it would be the modest cup of a carpenter).

Still no idea why they’d even bother to use the belts, though.

Just you mentioning that moment when Justin went to his father’s casket made me tear up.

I never thought of comparing the two eulogies or moments but it’s such an excellent observation. The two eulogies were vastly different. Justin’s was so eloquent, imo.

<modsnip: It is known fact, in MSM, that the belts were purchased by Honey at Canadian Tire for $9.99>

''Q: You write it would have to be someone familiar with the house, that it was personal, not professional.

A: I’ve spoken to people over the years about different types of homicide. And strangulation, that’s a very close, intimate thing. That’s different than hiring a hit man.

Q: You also write that you don’t think the killer or killers were professionals. One reason is the use of belts—one was taken from an upstairs bedroom. Organized criminals don’t look for their murder weapons at the scene.

''A: I’ve not seen crime scene photos. But I was told belts were used. Barry was wearing a belt that morning, one Honey bought him at Canadian Tire. The other belt was from their bedroom, or my supposition is that was where the other belt was. I don’t think a foreign object was brought into the house to do the killing. Why the pool? Because it’s out of the way, because the tile floor can be cleaned up easier.''

''After his hour workout, Barry got ready for work, putting on for the first time one of two belts purchased by Honey at Canadian Tire ($9.99 each). He kissed Honey goodbye, and left.''

Thank you for quoting all the supporting information. The police would have carefully checked where the belts came from and other details, imo.

It may mean nothing more than it shows the killer was upstairs in their dressing area at some point. I personally think the killer did everything deliberately.

I think the killer or killers deliberately used those belts, likely taking one off of Barry, after he got the one upstairs, probably while he waited for them to come home. It was planned ahead to make it look like Barry murdered Honey, then hung himself. If it were a murder suicide then there would be no homicide investigation, and the estate would be settled quickly. As well, no one would be coming after those who carried out these murders. In other words, a sort of perfect crime, but that did not work. IMO
