It's a sad, common occurrence when police are called to an incident when instead, a mental health professional should've been called to assist and evaluate a situation. There should be cross-over training for both professions, or they need to work more together somehow, in my opinion.

You're right, Victoria is a small enough city it's easy to run into people to a point. And I say that lightly, as it's still spread out enough that I don't even run into people I know in my own neighborhood that often.

Still unsure about the credit card for the impound bill, she could've paid them with debit(?)

I'm trying to be open minded, a bit hard when it comes to JH, but will try to sleuth other possibilities and not get too hung up on him and his connection. So many scenarios are possible. I'd like to try to focus on her steps, like where was she between noon and 6pm? Was she on the Galloping Goose Trail or did someone have her card and was there. So many questions.

Police are not properly trained you're right. A mental health specialist should have been brought in to evaluate Emma.

Yes she possibly could have paid for the impound in cash but that's only if she's there in person. I've personally paid for this by CC before as I was not present at the time and was getting my vehicle released to a towing company. but the same could be said for a plane ticket or anything else with cash or debit as well. There is certainly a reason she bought a prepaid CC for that amount of money. That reason would shed light on other information
.
And you are welcome Shelley. I was frustrating myself trying to figure out who you were responding to and on what comment. I hope we can help with your search.

Ahhh, I see what you mean now with the credit card. That could've been possible as well, never thought of that! That would save her a trip to the impound yard if released to a towing company. It's too bad, all those expenses add up quick and when they all happen to someone at once, it's enough to ruin anyone's day, stress them out or deflate them.

According to a number of sources, Emma refused to stay in a shelter that housed men as well as women even if there were families as well.

That is helpful to know when looking for possible places Emma might stay, but also, perhaps a glimpse into her mindset..
Did Emma become wary of all males, wonder if she was "spooked" in some way during the cab ride to the airport?

Do we have a -

1. Cell number for Emna

2. Email Address for Emma

3. Nicknames for Emma

4. Online Usernames for Emma

There are some things I would like to check. TIA

There wouldn't be any point in her going to the impound lot anyway as the van wasn't driveable. She would have had to possibly ride with the tow truck driver, and given that she was feeling wary of men, this was probably out of the question for her. She did ride with the driver when she had her van towed from Sooke, but this may have been difficult for her and/or gave her reason to not want to do it again, or she was okay with that particular driver.

It does sound like she was having a horrendous day---van towed, having to get a credit card to pay for it when she's against them, being questioned by LE...

Was the discussion with LE the last straw?

Wow, that's amazing that the business still had both clips of footage! Seems rare nowadays that businesses don't record over or don't dispose of recordings, this business does seem well put together, seems legit and not shady.

Sounds like she was alone in the footage and there by herself... Wondering if she dealt with the same employee both times at the storage and if were they a man or woman.

Emma arrived both times with the same tow truck driver. I believe she was served by a male once and a female the second time.

Hello Shelley. If you select the post you want to reply to, click "reply with quote", this inserts the post you want to reply to along with your comments. This way we know who you are answering.

I believe Emma bought the card to pay the impound charges too. But what happened that made her buy the phone ? Again IMO

IF she could have activated the phone and paid for the van with CC over the phone....she could have saved herself a trip MOO

Not sure what you're getting at. Are you suggesting that she bought the phone to make one phone call? That doesn't seem likely---she'd have access to a phone at the shelter.

Not just one phone call, but if she was really planning on leaving she may have realized that she had to have more tools for the job of organizing herself and her time. MOO

Possibly. If she were planning on going back to Perth shortly, why would she buy a phone with a BC number? Was it unlocked and easy to transfer SIM cards?

It'd be good to know which carrier it was, and what questions she asked when she bought the phone.

some carriers such as ChatR offer Canada wide calling flat monthly rate - lots of students etc don't even bother changing their numbers but it can be done.

This case should be moved the the "Missing" group, rather than "Missing but not forgotten." It's a relatively recent case and requires utmost attention (yes, as all cases do, but this category seems to imply some sense of hopelessness, and like many on this thread, I have hope for Emma). As a newbie to this forum, I can say that because of how this was categorized, I was not aware of Emma's disappearance, I happened upon it by accident.

I'd like to see some action towards getting Canadian LE educated on mental health. With the call to 911 for Emma, it should have been clear that a mental health professional was required, not standard LE.

I wonder if she could've intended to pay for her taxi fare with the credit card she'd bought on that morning? Maybe once in the cab, she realized that she'd lost it and asked the driver to drop her off because she didn't have enough money in her pockets (on in her bank account accessible with her debit card).

Definitely. I also learned about Emma when someone refered to her and posted a link to this thread on SB's thread. It needs more exposure here, especially since her mother is actively searching for her and answering questions.

Re-watching The Fifth Estate. It seems when outside the Empress, when one of the officers asked her "where you going, you're not wearing shoes", her reply was something (not direct quote but tried to quote as close as possible) "I'm working through some things right now, I'm just going for a walk and then I'm going to a friend's house".

I wonder if she was just saying that or if she was actually going to a friends house, if so, whose?

It's said she was weary of men, did she have a previous boyfriend of sorts in Victoria that may have been abusive, stalking and scaring her into make her uncomfortable around men or was she always like this?

If there was a past relationship with someone who wasn't letting go, scaring and toying with her, this may be why she was apprehensive to let her mom know. The first thing a lot of abusive, possessive partners do is threaten your immediate family and use that as mental manipulation and leverage. She might've wanted to involve her and tell her mom of her predicament, but was scared to if someone was knowing everything she was doing. She might've thought she was protecting her mom by not sharing this secret, if there was a secret.

The credit card and the cell phone are mysteries for sure. Unfortunately, I believe Emmais the only one who could accurately explain the purchases.

Shelley

The driver commented on her odd, paranoid behaviour more than once.
