There is no reference to them still having their cellphones with them when they were found.

Three Canadian sources:

Authorities eventually found the teens’ bodies in dense brush alongside two rifles and a cellphone used to record six videos.

Canada manhunt suspects made videos confessing to murders but no motive found

Star Vancouver reported today that a “cell phone found with bodies of suspects had a final video.”

BC teen suspects may have recorded final message on cell phone found with their bodies

The RCMP declined to comment on the existence of a video but a source confirmed that 30 seconds of the video, left on a cellphone that was found with the bodies, was shared with the suspects’ family members.

B.C. murder suspects recorded ‘last will and testament’ on phone, family member says

Without a doubt, Kam was a full-blown, cold-blooded psychopath. Bryer probably lower on the spectrum, but still definitely psychotic, and under Kam's control.

I have encountered single killers at this level a few times over the years, but never two who worked together, nor any so young. These encounters involved allowing their children's visitation with spousal approval, because in the Canadian justice system, they have the right to appeal, despite the odds against them.

They will smile at you all teeth, and soft soothing voice, but their eyes are completely dead, as they look you directly in the eye. I was always completely aware that if not for the handcuffs, shackles and armed guard beside them that silencing me, and my questions, would give them the greatest pleasure.

I thought so too, Kam a psychopath and Bryer maybe a sociopath.

I have heard some bone chilling stories from a close family member who worked at maximum penitentiaries interviewing/case working with sex offenders and dangerous offenders/violent killers as well.

I don't know how people do some jobs! PTSD factors in for many I think after being exposed to gruesome crime details over a career. Kudos to those workers, LE and first responders. Scary and brave work.

"Described" is a vague term. It could mean any sort of description, from "we shot and killed the couple and the old guy," onward.

"Did not provide specifics regarding the murders" is a pretty clear statement indicating, well, exactly what it says. There would be absolutely no reason for the police to lie and say they "did not provide specifics regarding the murders," if they actually did. What would be the reason to make a definitive statement like that on an official comprehensive police report, if that statement was untrue?

Also, the videos aren't that long. There wasn't much time for describing the murders in detail on there.

well. that's all your opinion. Hackett, for me , carries a bit more weight, a bit more clout , a lot more credibility, thanks. I'll take his claim on board for the time being, until the actual COMMISSIONER for the RCMP in Ottawa tells me Hackett is a ning nong and makes stuff up for the hell of it.

It probably wasn't stolen. Especially if it was made from different parts that Bryer put together himself. I heard it's not that difficult to purchase a gun illegally in Canada. There was an article about it that came out just a few days ago that someone posted on here, actually. Especially if one is buying older "historical" gun parts. I mean if the Danforth Avenue shooter could purchase a gun illegally when he had developmental disabilities, these guys probably could. Especially because Port Alberni has the 19th highest crime rate in all of Canada.
I'm guessing since Kam McLeod was the one with a PAL, that he had more knowledge of guns than Bryer did, and likely he (KM) was the one who 'gathered' the gun parts in some manner unknown to us all.

I believe in the US, some states require you to check a box on your firearm permit application if you do not want it to be public record. Is this the same for a PAL license? Is there a way, or has it been determined how long Kam had his license?

There were crazy, incoherent ramblings from Video 1 onwards, by the sound of it. I think the entire series of videos was most likely deeply bizarre on every level.

no doubt. Bizarre is the trademark of psychopaths. One shouldn't be surprised .

One of the most endearing things AC Hackett does is, his face crumples a bit when the reporter tries to pin him down on more of the tape. His innate disgust and revulsion in regard to K and B is suddenly evident, written clear across his face .

I wonder if you can pick that tiny second up... It's worth a watch.

But Al is the only person who has said that publicly so far.

I am not sure I buy it, totally.

Did the RCMP really say that or did he misconstrue or even manufacture it himself?
Me either. Al is given a bit to euphemism. . I find it difficult to believe that the RCMP would tell him that considering his frailty.

What is a technical briefing? What type of information was shared with the media?

Replying to @MikePHager

What is a technical briefing?

Where officials brief reporters in private before a news conference so that a complicated issue can be unpacked with the help of bureaucrats or technical experts speaking on background. Happens all the time for gov't budgets or independent reviews. Not seen it by police tho.

I'll chime in but to be honest I got my PAL about 40 years ago. I don't think there is any box to check but I also don't think the information would be available to the public. Canada has strict freedom of information laws so I don't think it would be anyone's business if I chose to buy a hunting rifle. RCMP would have access to that information but not my neighbour.

I'm reading online different websites, apparently rounds can last for decades if stored properly under the right conditions. They bought those rounds from a store, so I'm guessing the owner looked after them.
What I'm wondering is why did they destroy some of the rounds in the truck fire? Wouldn't they be concerned about keeping them?
Also, if they burned their truck first, how did they expect to get around? How long would they be walking along that highway before someone stopped for them?

I think the old ammo was Kam's family's. He had a permit and lived in Port Alberni. Lots of deer hunters on the island (island is over run with deer) and they learn to hunt at a young age from parents. Also hunters buy in large quantities when they hunt regularly as more economical. Would fit taking care of old ammo if in the family home. They'd notice if a gun was missing but not necessarily ammo. Jmo

I agree that the old ammo may have come from Kam's family. I could envision Kam thinking that this ammo was old. He bought a box of new ammo just incase the old ammo wouldn't fire. I may be giving him far too much credit, but depending on his knowledge and familiarity with guns this may be the case. This is why I would find it interesting to know how long Kam has had his PAL.

The thing that gets me though is I looked at the pictures of Kam that were shown to the public and I honestly see genuine smiles. I don't see any deadness in his eyes. Even in the surveillance videos, I don't see deadness.

If anything I see no emotion and blank expressions in most of the photos of Bryer.

I know what you're saying, he looked almost wholesome in the 'supplied' pics.

But boy oh boy when I watched the surveillance video I got a whole different vibe of Kam.

Sly, shifty and his saunter... gave me a bad vibe. Seen it before in my life and gave me the creeps. Interesting how we all interpret that little snippet of video different!

At the start I agree that Kam looked less likely than Bryer to be involved in something this terrible. Now, I really think Bryer was along for the ride and Kam was the one that had the plan. Bryer was all in and followed willingly, but I think Kam could have done this on his own. I am not sure Bryer could have. JMO.

Maybe, down the road, this person will be able to lay out exactly what it was that led them to believe that K and B were certainly capable of murdering these people. So convincing that it over -rode the no doubt sincere and genuine belief spoken by AS and the McLeods about their sons.

And that must have been some deep and utterly solid convincing, too, because the entire event pivoted on that input.

( for some reason, with no evidence, merely hunch, or/and instinct, I believe that someone saw them , or knew of some kind of 'murder', perhaps of a pet, some enemy's dog, a critics kitten, something like this, that K nd B did, that shocked them to the core and that experience lay there, until revived.)

I think it sensible that it was a family member of Kam's. Just my opinion.

Honestly I don't really see either one of them doing it without the other. Not to say either one of them wouldn't have killed eventually, but I felt like this whole trip was a joint plan. I think they both equally wanted to do it. Kam may have had a little more say on the route they took because he had the truck. Just the fact that Bryer did most of the talking on the videos (going by what the RCMP say) it's safe to say he likely had a lot if not equal input. The RCMP even couldn't pin point a likely leader.

Also keep in mind I get where you are coming from seeing Kam being more likely to do this on his own considering he had a PAL license, a vehicle and more means to do this, where Bryer didn't.

I'm not too wrapped in motive as we all know many crimes have been committed without reasons why, but I think it was partially a mindset like this:

Why not? I'm bored. We got nothing going on. No future plans. Let's get outta here. Who the F cares, let's go wreak some havoc it'd be fun! Imagine if we went out and did some crazy *advertiser censored* (that we do in video games) in real life? We could do a road trip, get some guns. We're basement dwellers who are wimps, people suck so let's go power trip and scare the *advertiser censored* out of people! No one in Canada does this, maybe we'll get famous! Cops wouldn't catch us, we know our military stuff pretty good, we could get away with it and if not then we just end it.

I think they very detached emotionally and socially and just wanted to go bad things to get a rush and 'feel alive' and that they existed. I think they felt somewhat invisible and by doing this was quite an overwhelmingly powerful feeling.

TOTALLY hypothetical, obviously fictional (sorry if a bit much lol) and JMO of course.

Unfortunately I'm feeling the same way about this. I think you summed it up very well.

I'm with you... in the store surveillance video, which I watched many times, Kam gave me a really creepy vibe too... a little too "cool for school", while, Bryer looked more nervous and "young"...
