Very sad, where is this couple and who did this crime...someone has to be brought to trial for this!!!

Does this mean if they can't find the evidence they need within this next year, he cannot be charged even if there is a break in the case two years down the road? Almost like our double jeopardy law?

I was wondering the same when I read this. Man, this just makes me sick.

I can just imagine how horrified the families of this couple feel. But here in Canada, we are becoming not just a little cynical about the work of the RCMP, especially in the western provinces. If the prosecution stayed the proceedings, there was a good reason. Sloppy evidence, is my guess. I am also not convinced by the investigative work reported in the abduction and death of Loretta Saunders just recently. Law enforcement make an arrest for a variety of reasons, which may or may not pass the Sherlock Holmes test. Frankly, it is a very dangerous world. Lyle and Marie McCann, RIP. As a senior, I am very afraid if I am in any area where I or my husband might be vulnerable to attack.

Can't say as I blame him. I sure with the RCMP had a clear reason to arrest him. We, the public certainly clambored for action, but not just any action.

TV may certainly be the culprit, but it was never clear on what grounds they arrested him. He was a 'bad guy' and he was 'in the area'.

I sure hope that LE is really close, behind the scenes, to catching culprit, whether it was TV or someone else.

:please:

Was he actually prosecuted, or was he arrested for another offence and the additional charges were added? I'm curious how he can claim malicious prosecution if he wasn't actually prosecuted. If he was prosecuted, what was the verdict?

McCann family makes another plea to find missing couple

It's been nearly four years since the Lyle and Marie McCann disappeared, but the family of the elderly couple has not yet given up hope.

Oh cry me a river. This had a substantial criminal record prior to the McCanns' disappearance. He was never "prosecuted" for their disappearance/deaths so it must be something else he's trying to play the system for. No sympathy for criminals. Do some reading on his background and previous offenses, no choir boy here.

Bret McCann offered support and encouragement to the O'Brien/Liknes families. There are still no answers to the whereabouts of his missing parents, Lyle and Marie McCann. His parents' disappearance has always affected me and reading the article about Bret McCann sending words of kindness and encouragement to other families just shows
the depth of his kind character. I am still holding out hope that something soon is found about his parents. My thoughts and prayers go out to Bret and all of the families who have no answers just the gut-wrenching knowledge that they will never see their families again.

ditto!

Interesting, but not completely surprising. Good news.

Here is an article from the Calgary Herald regarding today's arrest:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/e...rested+murder+McCann+case/10668025/story.html

The McCann’s son, Bret McCann, issued a statement on Friday evening saying, “Today’s news means that we will now have the opportunity to learn more about the investigation into our parents’ death when this case comes to trial.”

The statement says the family will not be commenting further, and that “Our goal now is to ensure the accused receives a fair trial.”

What a class act. My thoughts are with the McCann family. Another tough holiday season faces them.

Travis Vader is released on bail:

"A decision had to be made prior to the expiration of that stay period," said Finlayson.
"The assessment was that it was in the public interest to proceed with the matter and there was a reasonable likelihood of conviction and that would have been based on the material that was available."
He wouldn't say if there is new evidence in the case.
