My apologies in advance if this has been posted previously. (I didn't see it).

Thank you @Truth Prevails for finding and sharing this police scanner audio !

At 0.19 second mark of the audio you've found, the dispatcher says from the information she received was that "he managed to escape from the suspects".

The media had posted early that he was "released" by the suspects.

WL is in a bachelor of business administration program at Yorkville University (it's an online/on-campus school that has been in Ontario since 2017... as an international student, he is required to do the majority of courses in person at 2000 Steeles Ave. W in Vaughan).

I wonder how he is doing in school. The winter term ended Friday, March 22. I assume he should have been writing exams now.

Never heard of this school. I would have thought he'd be attending one of the more prestigious schools. Interesting way to get out of writing exams when you know you're going to flunk because you've spent all your time pursing other interests? Like girls and fast cars? Don't imagine his parents would be happy about bad or failing grades if they're giving him all this money to pursue an overseas education. Just another angle to look at?

I wonder if there will be a statement for Yorkville University president on the matter. It is an established pattern that kids are plunked into these private universities in a safe and tolerant country by their wealthy chinese national parents with no real expectation to do well or excel .. just to pass time, then come back to take over the family business. Seriously, what student-studying-abroud needs a luxury vehicle to get around campus, much less several luxury vehicles? .. In many instances, these kids are sent over with a live-in maid and cook tend to their day-to-day needs.

Towards the bottom of the article, there is an image of what is purportedly his Instagram page. Police haven't confirmed it belongs to him but it certainly appears that way to me.

Great find. Going through his Instagram shows it really is about the cars with him and his friends. Had no idea these young kids had this much free cash to spend on this hobby.

Has it ever been noted how long WL has been in Canada on a student Visa? Who owns the condo he lives at? Is this the norm for international students? Buying expensive cars and condos. I was under the impression they usually lived on or just off campus and spent all their time studying, making only a few friends to socialize with. From WL's IG it appears he had quite a large "posse" of friends with the same expensive tastes. So it's not like he stood out.

So again, why him as a target?

The program looks like a glorified PMP Exam prep program. You might be onto something regarding school performance. It's looking more like something he cooked up.

‘Help me, I’ve been kidnapped,’ man recounts finding abduction victim

The homeowner said Lu was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that had a bit of duct tape stuck to it.

He said Lu had no idea where he was and he told the homeowner he had been handcuffed and hooded while he was in captivity.

The homeowner said he saw marks on Lu’s arms from some sort of ligature and a cut on one of his knees.

I look forward to hearing the story of what happened during captivity - did they feed him, what did they feed him, did they drop him off or did he escape, did his captors have accents, where did he sleep, did he sleep, was he ever alone, where was he held??

Abducted student was 'in distress' with knee cut, ripped jeans, says man who found him at side of Ontario road | CBC News
"The homeowner, whose name is being withheld because he is concerned for his safety, said he let his dog out, it started barking and the homeowner heard a voice calling out for help. He brought the dog back inside and then went out himself with a flashlight.

"I found this young lad in distress at the side of the road," he said.

"He had a rip in his jeans and a good cut on his one knee. He was quite shaken up, which I don't blame him. He wasn't dressed the warmest. I rushed him into the house and called 911 on the way into the house. And then everybody showed up.
Lu, who didn't have his glasses
, told the homeowner he had been abducted. "It's lucky that I had heard the story on the radio," he said. "I don't even think he knows why he was kidnapped."

Photos show that the haute-couture jeans he was wearing before he was allegedly abducted were already ripped and frayed at both knees. Such is the current fashion a the time of the alleged abduction.

According to the news report on City TV this evening, the man from Gravenhurst who found WL told a City TV reporter that the local police told him that organized crime was involved. Not sure why a police officer would have told him that when they supposedly have no idea what the motive was, but it's possible that an officer told him organized crime MAY be involved. I'm sure that's another line of investigation they're following.

Longtime lurker , first time poster here.

This little tidbit seems all too coincidental:
"CBC Toronto has also obtained vehicle registration documents on the Range Rover showing a lien put on the vehicle as of March 25."

March 25th would have been the day before he was found in Gravenhurst, 2 days after he went missing.
Is it possible a loan was taken against the car to pay off the kidnappers without the cops knowing? Or perhaps WL ran up so much debt with his lavish lifestyle he needed a quick payout?
Could also be nothing since it hasn't been reported whether the fancy cars are owned outright or leased/financed, in which case it'd be normal to have a lien on them but the timing is still fishy.

Some may not know this but Gravenhurst is home to the Norman Bethune Historic Museum. Bethune is revered by the Chinese community for his medical work in China during World War II. So much so that Bethune's legacy is still taught in primary schools across China. Bus loads of Chinese tourists visit the Musuem every week. It's possible WL has been here before and is familiar with the area.

I think we won't be hearing much more details until after the suspects are arrested, they can interrogate them separately and compare with what info WL has given them thus far. Any shenanigans would come to light real quick from that point. The lead investigator sounds pretty confident they'll all be found very soon.

Welcome to the forum ChubbyPanda, thanks for a great first post.

As far as the lien being placed on the Range Rover 2 days after he was abducted, perhaps it's possible that he does not own the vehicle outright and the lien was placed by whatever financing company may have lent him the money to purchase the vehicle? Or perhaps he owes money to some company and they put a lien on his vehicle as soon as they knew he was missing. So basically he has used the Range Rover as collateral for something?

Very interesting information regarding Norman Bethune and his significance in the Chinese community. I did not know that. I do know that the same road that he was found on (Hwy 6) running into Gravenhurst from Hwy 11 to the west is called Bethune Dr. You are probably very correct about there being some significance as to why he was released in this area.

It was also noted on City TV news that WL is being kept in a safe place so there may be something to the organized crime rumour. If it was meant to scare someone, I'm sure it did the trick.

So there's a bit of backlash towards the Chinese community in Vancouver and Toronto right now because rich Chinese are using the real estate market to move their money out of China where the Chinese government can't get to it and also to send their kids to university here to either have them go back to China with a prestigious foreign degree or earn permanent resident status/citizenship in case things hit the fan in China. There's a joke in many colder Canadian climates that the only people who wear those expensive Canada Goose parkas are Chinese students flaunting their wealth! Residents go for cheaper brands without the status.

I work at a small school without name recognition and we get more foreign students from poorer countries or those whose families aren't that wealthy. Big difference!

“Our investigators are going to keep an open mind to all possibilities, wherever the evidence leaves them is where they’re going to go with the investigation,” said Const. Pattenden."
Homeowner recounts finding Chinese student 'pretty shook up'

Cops already have suspicions WL may not be entirely innocent in all this.

It's funny pro criminals in organized crime usually don't leave witnesses. They could've followed him and grabbed him while alone that doesn't have obvious security cameras everywhere. The witness and location were deliberate.

If money was the motive the suspects could've drove off with 3 luxury vehicles worth about $1,000,000, yet they leave them just sitting there and grab this kid instead?

There is way more to this story

Questions dog bizarre kidnapping of Chinese student
"Wanzhen Lu is now safely out of harm’s way.

His kidnappers are still at large.

But a slew of nagging questions are emerging about the bizarre incident that unfolded in the garage of the 22-year-old Chinese student’s Markham condo.

Cops say Lu was released from the hospital on Wednesday and was scheduled to be reunited with his family later in the day.

— Why was there no demand for ransom?

— Why was Lu’s companion unharmed in the incident?

— What made Lu a target?

— And why was the luxury-loving student finally released 150 kilometres away in Gravenhurst?"
