(Within weeks of Dylan's disappearance, investigators said they determined the teen did not run away. But members of the task force searching for Dylan will not disclose what led them to that conclusion)

(The tipster told investigators they were approached that day by a man who asked where he could find gasoline for his vehicle. The man was described as Hispanic, between 45 and 50 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds with dark hair.)

So the "tipster" could be anybody and for all we know a ploy ?

All LE have said is they have a tipster !

:cow:

In response to Lash

That would really depend on the location on the Pine River but in general, I would say about 15-20 miles. The Pine River does run right thru Bayfield.

Last Monday, the La Plata County Sheriff's Office said they received a tip from someone who remembered seeing a man in the north end of Vallecito the day Dylan was reported missing.

The tipster told investigators they were approached that day by a man who asked where he could find gasoline for his vehicle. The man was described as Hispanic, between 45 and 50 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds with dark hair.

The man said he was looking at rental properties, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Daniel L. Bender

Ok as I read this its the tipster that was looking at rental properties!

It is not impossible this man is involved but still highly improbable .

So this man happens upon Dylan when he is never normally there and he would of been waiting around for a few hours (imo) as Dylan had blown off his friends so he would of slept for at least a couple of hours if he was that tired .

If not mistaken, I've read that they communicated with the tipster, I'd have to research to locate the article, but I'm positive that's what was stated.

"We have received multiple tips that have been helpful in our attempts to identify the person who we have confirmed was looking for a rental property," said Bender in an email to 7NEWS. "We are still following up on those tips."

And this article is dated today. So to me this reads that they have confirmed this person exists and was looking for rental property.

I honestly don't think LE would say this just based on what the tipster said.

I'll admit my hinky meter went up too when the information about the tipster was posted on fb prior to it being reported to LE, but this article dated today says they have confirmed this.

Or I'm crazy....LOL

Can a local tell me the distance between the Pine River mentioned by Dylan's friends and MR's home? I have looked on Google Maps but I am unsure if the location I am viewing is correct. TIA

Not a local but the Pine River is the river that the Vallecito dam and lake is on. This website gives a pretty good description. It flows from northeast of the lake through to southwest, through Bayfield and down into New Mexico.

I have a feeling that the boys played at the river edge right in Bayfield - wasn't it shown on a video?

I did have a similiar thought, but in each article "the tipster" has been referred to as the tipster and the Hispanic male has been referred to as "the man".

The man said he was looking at rental properties, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Daniel L. Bender. The tipster did not have a description of the vehicle.

Bender said investigators want to talk with the Hispanic man, because he might have witnessed something and not realized it.

Anyone matching the man's description who was in the Vallecito area on Nov. 18-19 is asked to contact the La Plata Sheriff’s Office.

Bender said investigators will not identify the tipster whom they interviewed over the weekend and will not say where the interview took place. They did say the interview was a direct result of information left on the tip line.)

IMO - regardless of whether or not the tip is valid
A) LE is checking it out
B) LE is making a public plea for this person
C) LE does not know, until they talk to this person if he saw anything or anyone in the area that may help the investigation
D) LE, IMO, is actively following up on all tips that may aide in the investigation
E) This person could be a witness, may not be a witness, could be hinky

I see it in a completely different light. I think that it is foolish to allow a personal tragedy to be used as Talking Head Entertainment. No talking head will ever solve a crime, and I've yet to see a talking head properly research a case such that the audience is left with a clear understanding of the facts.

Regarding the father, if he was going to stage the disappearance of his son, why wouldn't he at least stage the backpack at the house to prove that his son actually got there? Why would a father that is finally going to spend some time with his son make him vanish? Is there any factual reason for the father to want to make his son vanish from the face of the earth?

Yes, he lost custody and child support on same day in September and he has a lot of animosity towards his ex wife. She is now engaged to be married.

HUH? They never identified the tipster as being a man. Above BBM they give a description of THE MAN and go on to say THE MAN said he was looking at rental properties.
