“The El Paso County woman arrested on a murder charge related to the disappearance and presumed death of her 11-year-old stepson was fired from a middle school teaching job just days before the boy went missing.

Leticia Stauch was going through orientation for a job at Mountain Ridge Middle School in Academy School District 20 when her employment offer was rescinded.

‘Academy District 20 rescinded her employment offer after finding inconsistencies in her employment application,’ district spokeswoman Allison Cortez said.

Cortez did not elaborate on those inconsistencies. She said Stauch never had access to children and that the district is currently is in the process of notifying Mountain Ridge Middle School students and families.

Stauch was participating in orientation from Jan. 22 and 24 when she was fired, just three days before her stepson, 11-year-old Gannon Stauch, went missing.

A spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment. Cortez confirmed that the woman who was going through orientation at Mountain Ridge Middle School is the same person who was arrested in Gannon Stauch’s disappearance.

Y'all. This is my kids' school district. We moved to 11, but still go to 20. This shook me.
I'm thankful for D20 doing this and protecting those kids, but I am sure that is the final straw that pushed her over the edge and poor sweet little guy paid for her anger.
No words.

”The school district by law has to notify people when an employee, current or former, is charged. A few people were confused when they weren't notified sooner. Officially, they had to wait until she was booked in El Paso County, which was today. So it makes sense.”

So they weren't notified untill the deputy was attacked and landed in the hospital??

I feel so devastated for poor little Gannon. As we see and find out more about how dangerous and violent this she-devil is, I know he was so afraid. He was so terrified in that video and he obviously didn't want to go with her that morning. I'm afraid he knew and he was too weak from his injuries to run or fight back or scream for help. I can't even imagine the fear the sweet little boy felt. Horrible.

i’m curious to know why this teaching job ended. any way to find out? imo either quit or fired i would think a teachers contract would cover full school year
She was still in Orientation, so probably checking references, work history, credit, background check - something came back they didn't like IMO.

Oh wow, so she taught in the same school Gannon attended.

So sorry for all the kids and parents there! It must be very hard for all those students. I hope they have counselors there for them whenever they need to talk.
No, she taught at a different school but I'm guessing they had to notify everyone in the district.

This article mentioned “inconsistencies” in regards to her application. My guess is they found out she lied about the circumstances with which she left previous jobs, and perhaps lies in regards to her qualifications.

Sounds like they did their homework.

How? I'm not following why the assault on a deputy would mean the media should be granted expanded coverage vs traditional coverage. I'm not from CO but so far as I can tell, the defense objection to expanded coverage is that it could interfere with the defendant's rights. If she really did attack the deputy, that's awful but she is still presumed to be innocent and is entitled to a fair trial. She may have made that harder to achieve by her own alleged actions but the court still has a responsibility.

What am I missing?

I am not from Colorado either, and the last I want is for TS's rights to be violated and for her not receive a fair trial. My statement was in response to details within the defenses request. The print is small, so I magnified it.

Exactly. I don't know that we'll ever know but you are correct. She was either fired or walked out I bet. (Maybe she could have been hired as a longtime sub for someone on extended sick leave but I doubt it. And even if that was the case, I'd think her contract would have gone through fall semester or up until winter break.) And I wouldn't be surprised if her firing from the new school a few days before GS went missing related to her not disclosing something about this prior job. Because even walking off should have made it hard to get another job in the same area.

WOW. It was just updated to now say she DID have access to children.

Updated on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 7 p.m.: This story has been updated to correct that Letecia Stauch did have access to children during her short time at Mountain Ridge Middle School.

Also, Widefield School District #3 sent this out to parents today. See attached.

My son just told me that when being in transport all inmates are required to have on handcuff with a chain attached to their waist and lef irons on too......he said the zip tie things are only used in sace of emergencies and would never be used on a transport, he also said she was more then likely transported by U.S. Marshals if they had that long of a ride and got her out of there as fast as they did!

Thanks. My eyes can't read print that small at night but will read it tomorrow.
