It sure is very different. As stated previously, I've dabbled in the modeling world as well. However, I've never done anything where I would show more than my belly because it's not my style. I am a prude like that lol. I surely know the difference between regular modeling VS adult modeling. What Kara was doing was adult orientated modeling. Some of the positions she portrayed in her photos could be interpreted as sexual positions, or positions you'd see in the privacy of your own bedroom. These are the same type of photos you see on *advertiser censored* cam girl sites. I do not think Kara is at fault for what happened to her, however like someone else mentioned, her photos definitely make her an easier target than someone who is just posting catalog style photos.

OAN, I feel for her, she probably was naive about the modeling world and really didn't research/study up about the in's and out's of the industry. I do not let her passion for modeling get in the way of the fact that I want her home safe. I wish more younger women really knew what they were getting themselves into when they post scantily clad photos of themselves on the net. They attract the wrong attention from all the wrong people. Many women also don't understand that once you post photo's like that online, those photos will be there forever. They don't just go away or disappear. Really, this is a sad story and I just want Kara found.

snipped by me.

This is very different than print modeling for a clothing store and runway for charity. She is on model mayhem with pictures of her breasts and lower private areas visible. She is in lingerie, but not like lingerie posing like in lingerie magazines selling lingerie. Like poses you see on *advertiser censored* websites. This is very different than the modeling that you are describing that isn't dangerous. The modeling that she is doing there would be a high likelihood of coming across people that have deviant behavior or were interested in sex trafficking. It does in fact increase your risk. This in no way means that Kara is in any way at fault. You should be able to do whatever you wish, pursue whatever career without being kidnapped. I am not judging her for what her pictures show or the lifestyle she lived. So do not mistake what I am saying or accuse me of anything (any poster, not directly that towards you), I am simply stating you can not compare average modelling with the modelling that Kara was doing. Also with the possible innuendo on her Model Mayhem site that she may possibly be open to other things during the session. This just makes her an easy target. It's easy for a predator to hide behind a computer screen to scout his victims, it's easy to make contact with them and meet them, just a dangerous way of pursuing modeling in all.

Yes, clearly they're different. If you read back, a post had stated Kara was engaged in "a dangerous occupation" so I queried what occupation was meant, given some have assumed she was prostituting. The poster clarified she meant modeling. Professional modeling isn't dangerous, IMO. What Kara was doing is, IMO. Hoping they find her soon!

ETA: I just realized I may have a little more info to illuminate the Denver modeling situation and maybe it'll save some other unsuspecting girl from being exploited here. Normally, I try not to share much about me on here, but maybe this info will help. I did the small potatos but fun modeling I mentioned before briefly in my teens. Fast forward to 5 years ago or so, and I was out at my company's Christmas party dinner at a high-end restaurant. A woman I'd seen looking at me a couple times in the restaurant followed me into the ladies' room and said, "This is going to seem weird and I don't do this often, but I work at a local modeling agency, and I'd love for you to come in and talk to us..." I politely and skeptically took her card and her compliments and went back to the dinner. I figured it was some kind of scam. At the time, I was a single mom in my mid-thirties, going through a rough, costly, time-consuming custody fight with my ex, and working 40+ hours a week in a professional setting to make ends meet. A few days later, I decided it wouldn't hurt to do some research as I could use a little extra $. I was beyond surprised to learn it was a legitimate local agency, number two in the Denver market. I gave her a call, and she asked me to come in x or y day between x and y times as that's when they meet with potential models. I waited a couple weeks, worked up my nerve, and showed up. I was one of about 15 people in line. Each of us walked and posed as requested in our street clothes during our turn.

She recognized me and pulled me into her office and was very upfront. They were interested in using me for trunk shows, it'd probably be one or two weekends a month. If I was interested, they'd schedule some promo head shots and photos to show to their clients. I was shocked anyone my age modeled, but she showed me some gorgeous pix of women my age to silver haired that they represented. She was very open about the fact that even the top models in the Denver market do not earn enough to make a living at it as some do in NY and other markets. Most do it here for fun and a little pocket cash, she said. Given that I was already living a harried schedule, and didn't want to have even less time with my son, I didn't pursue it, although it was a morale booster in the midst of the mess with my ex!

Please note all my modest, work attire stayed on me! And even top local models can't rely on it for a living! This is also borne out by a friend of mine who did catalog modeling here and still worked an actual job. (I knew her through church, not modeling.) So, if there are girls reading here, dreaming of a huge payday from modeling in CO, please know it doesn't work that way. Please really research the agency or if you're not sure where to begin, have a parent help you do the research. Both my small potatoes opportunities just happened to fall into my lap as I'm unusually tall & thin for a woman, but that's so not the norm, and posing for random guys on the net will not make you the next Elle, or Cindy, or Tyra, etc.

Just sharing so we don't have to have another CO thread about a missing teenager dreaming of making it big modeling. :(. Kara and her family deserve so much more than this. I'm worried for her and heartbroken for them. I so hope LE has some leads.

Seek & Find - FWIW, I'd like to state that I refer to Kara's work as 'alternative modeling' as it's not for known having large reputable employers hiring. There are more independent photographers. I know a tiny bit from what my daughter has told me due to her interest in the profession, and her interest in gothic and Victorian fashion and fashion design, as well as her interest in photography. Some of these things are similar to the (very limited) pictures I have seen.

However, I am obviously not an expert in all of it. I also don't particularly like the type of photos my daughter is interested in taking all of the time, but I support her desire to do it within reason, nonetheless. I am not judging Kara for anything, and print modeling isn't particularly dangerous as you pointed out. I don't think most people intend to be mean to her - I know I don't at least. :)

PS - My daughter does not consider employing nudity in her photos, and only would if it were clearly and blatantly creative, artistic photo, I'm sure. I don't think even then she would though. LOL She loves fashion, and being unclothed defeats the purpose in that case. LOL

I think there is a danger involved in modeling. Many models are young girls from foreign countries who don't speak English well or at all and are probably working to support their families. They can be exploited by photographers such as forcing them to perform sex acts to get more jobs. Think the casting couch. Then, you have the pressure to be underweight so you fit the sample sizes. I'm sure there is plenty of drug use because I've heard some drugs (coke?) curb hunger and/or make you thinner. Also, you usually have a hard time getting work after you hit around 25 and going from walking all the runways to not one wanting you anymore because you're "too old" or "too fat" can be horrible for one's self esteem. The fact that the entire industry is based around one's looks cannot be a completely positive thing.

I'm surprised that a review of computer and phone communications hasn't produced any results yet. Then again, maybe it has, and LE is again keeping their cards close to their vest.

Stepping out of the tunnel for a moment (the tunnel being that her disappearance MUST be related to her occupation/lifestyle), there is the possibility that she was met with foul play simply bc she is a young female. Amy Anohen still hasn't been found...While there is the possibility that Amy was one of Travis Forbes victims, who Thank God is in prison, this is something to keep in mind.

Angry wives? Clients trying to keep her mouth shut? Jealous co-workers or friends? Accidental overdose trying to be covered up...Who knows.

Just trying to step outside the box for a second, though agreed her occupation is certainly a dangerous one and very likely related to her disappearance.

No shortage of nutjobs in the Denver area, thats for sure.

I would love to look at some alternative theories. Unfortunately there is nothing to go on. We don't even know anything about her roommates.

Is anyone talking about Kara? Her life outside her aspirations to model?

Now we're talkin.

Speaking of photographers, I hope that dirtbag Jesse Speer is having a great time in prison bahahaha

Cooking dinner, be back in a while M25.

Are any of Kara's friends talking about her? Facebook maybe?

Thaank you (furthermore, this is obviously no offense to all the reputable companies and photographers out there.)

So, yeah, what do we know about the roommates?

Kara is a victim here. The negative criticism of her ends NOW. A lot of posts have been removed. Next time we'll go straight to losing our posting privileges without warning. This is the warning.

Now carry on and let's find Kara!!!

Have there been any other cases like this where a model went missing after going to a job? I have heard of rapes, etc, but a case of a kidnapping or missing person? I read on the model mayhem threads about Kara someone said that maybe the models will finally be safer about their jobs and the photographers will stop making them feel bad for trying to be safe. So it sounds like some of these jobs can be sketchy so i'm interested in if this has happened before and if anyone has been caught? Maybe drawing parallels would help.

Good question. I don't have an answer to it, but it would be interesting to know.

The only case that pops into my head is Linda Sobek but that was a long time ago, I am sure there are more.

I found this blog which is pretty interesting.

The roomate story doesn't make sense to me:
"Nichols was last seen Oct. 9. Investigators say she told her roommate she might go to Denver but left her purse and money. "

Could there be a bit of tunnel-vision taking place? Going to Denver and taking nothing makes no sense. Won't a model going on any type of job take lots of makeup, outfits, etc?
Did she have such thing already packed in case she got a call?

We are told enough to really know.. Got to wonder if something else may be at play here.

ETA: she young, beautiful, and has done some spicy photos - and we all assume she was naively drawn into something relating to "modeling" - but I'm not so sure...

I see the logo "Photo by Ako Pah"
on some of her risque photos -

ETA, Considering the last person she was with was a woman.... I'm thinking this was case has nothing to with sex-traffic, modeling, etc... It's simply a case of an attractive woman being abducted by someone who has become fixated upon her - the woman she was with all that day.

Police: Missing teen Kara Nichols didn't post escort ads in Las Vegas

The ads featured photos of Nichols, but detectives said they have learned the website pulled old pictures of Nichols from the Internet.

"In speaking with authorities from the Las Vegas area, they say that it's quite common for escort businesses to simply shop around on the Internet and find photos like that," El Paso County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Kramer told KRDO-TV.
