I’ve missed some posts too. Honestly, not like I’ve thought about this much, but the difference between smothered and strangled is (IMO) is pretty technical, I think. My guess is some would use those terms interchangeably. Is that how they got chris to confess you think, because he initially said SW strangled them but yet the autopsy found they were smothered?

ETA - I also wonder if LE DID get all the messages between CW and NK from his phone perhaps, but it just took more time since she erased them and they had to request all of this from the phone carrier...I've always been very curious about the electronic investigation. The DA did speak to the drastic differences between CWs and SWs search content but I'd be very curious to know if they recovered all of the messages between CW and NK

Well, I am sure that it was a reaction response, to scrub him away, and disappear everything having to do with him. Shudder. That poor woman, must have thought that she could have been implicated in this mess.

I really feel sorry for her. She must feel so creeped out, possibly guilty, and to have been with a killer...ugh. shudder.

Probably these texts were explicit, she would be embarrassed, and she didn't want the Police reading them.
That may be what the DA was referring to.

Side note I’m so devastated by all of this. Nobody wins. I know this may be unpopular but I even feel sympathy for Cindy Watts - she clearly has not yet accepted the heinous things her son did and she said some dispicable comments but she is suffering a loss too. The likely scenario is that they too had no idea this would happen even if they didn’t get along well w SW. She should have kept her mouth shut about it but I’m glad they stated in court they believed that he did it.

I agree - I think if Chris doesn't top himself, he'll take to prison life like a duck to water. Clear hierarchies, no need to think for himself, someone else making his schedule for him and giving him his chores, mealtimes and bedtimes, and everything provided for him in a regimented fashion. And, of course, the eventual fanmail...

His "defence" would have been laughed out of town.

He did it to protect himself from further humiliation.

I only wish, in this Plea, there was a Clause, where CW was not permitted any 'fan mail'.
His ego will be stoked, even in Prison, reading all the rubbish, these folk are capable of.
I would like him to be insignificant, a mistake to society, that has been forgotten.

Since the trial case has concluded, I don't think we will see the request that are submitted for the Freedom of Information Act on the case. I don't know if those will be released at all and what other evidence might be requested or release that we have wanted to know the answer to. Perhaps @Gitana knows

I completely agree. I know many people think he will try to kill himself, I am not one of them. I don't think he has enough of an identity to be bothered with the idea of suicide. He may have said some things to get him on suicide watch in jail, but I think he was just saying stuff you should say. Probably with the same lack of affect as he had when talking about his family, but it has to be taken seriously.

He is literally a nothing, who will be able to cloak himself in the persona of whoever he's surrounded by at the moment, no major responsibilities, no high expectations, no moms or wives wanting him to be.... anything. He'll be fine.

I don't remember his exact words, but DA Rourke said that only the affair with NK was part of CW's motive. He didn't explicitly say there weren't other affairs that would have already ended months before the murders. Hope we found out soon.

This is MOO since I can't readily find a link of the judge speaking about it, but IIRC it wasn't that CW wasn't sentenced for those charges. It was the sentence for those particular charges could not be served consecutively (like all the others), rather the sentence has to be served concurrently. IIRC the judge mentioned something about this due to being the way the law reads. (Sorry I dislike going from memory and not posting a link, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm so glad he didn't go on to trial. And a death penalty case could go on forever. I don't know if Shanann's family will get any closure, but at least this case wrapped up so quickly that the legal and court part was resolved quickly and not prolonged stress and grief for them.

I think they would have buried CW in court. Even if some of the evidence was largely circumstantial, the whole picture of it gives a pretty compelling account of what happened. There is no way he could have explained away anything on the stand. His lies were out of control.

Aside from what he said the day of his arrest about SW "strangling" the girls - it sounds like he said that once that day and then dropped it. It's such a shame that a stupid, slanderous lie that wasn't even the correct method of the murder HE committed (I can't even with this guy) launched hundreds of comments and speculations attacking the victim. But his story would have never held up in court.

Also, given his demeanor in court yesterday, I don't think the coward could have withstood a trial. He couldn't even handle sitting there for ONE single day. Was that proceeding even an hour? How screwed up is he that he couldn't even look at his mother or the family supporting him? He is weak and a coward.

He decided to plead very early on. I mean he really confessed to all charges without any discussions. The defense approached the prosecutor's office. Taking the death penalty off the table in Colorado where they weren't even sure if it would end up being abolished isn't much of a "deal." I think CW knew he had screwed himself with his ridiculous methods. And I think he is too weak to fight. I'd like to think he pleaded guilty to spare everyone involved further grief and pain, but I doubt that was his motivation. Still - I'm grateful for everyone's sake that he took that step to confess to all charges and enter the plea agreement quickly. (No thanks to his mother.)

True. I still think CW lied to NK and his family, telling them that he wasn't Nico's father, that SW was abusive, etc. But I doubt that NK will disclose more than she already has.

I think NK would have dumped his stupid sorry *ss before long anyway because she is an educated professional and she would have grown tired of him. <modsnip - not victim friendly to NK>

SW was far more attractive and classy, imo. That monster should have been thanking his lucky stars every day to have a wife like her with a son on the way and two precious daughters like Bella and Celeste.
