As for TB, I was open to hearing anything, but I knew he was full of it as soon as he provided, as photographic evidence of a tryst, a random picture of an unidentifiable guy's back and claimed it was CW.

Edited to Add, sorry I meant to quote @Tippy Lynn

IIRC Watts stated that he thought there was more oil in the tanker he dropped Bella into because of the difference in 'splash' noises.

It does not sound very scientific to me but I suppose he could be right. However it is my understanding that both children were covered in/submerged in oil.

The autopsy states:

"The toxicology results likely represent decomposition and an artifact of being submerged in an oil tank for several days."

Perhaps Celete's skin being 'younger' made the difference? I do not know.

This from WRAL:

Convicted murderer quiet on why he killed wife, daughters

GREELEY, Colo. — Christopher Watts cried, shook and stared into his lap as a judge told him he would spend the rest of his life in prison for the murders of his pregnant wife and their two young daughters.

But he spoke only once at his sentencing hearing and that was to decline the opportunity to give a statement and perhaps answer the question gnawing at his relatives, his suburban Denver neighbors, and others: Why?

I haven't watched it yet, but read all the details here, thanks to everyone's descriptions. Didn't someone read a statement that he wrote? I thought I read something maybe the lawyer read in court. That he was devastated or something. Were those his words or the lawyers?

Yikes! My post appears under the original post. Maybe no-one should respond to it, it may be a broken quote.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that when skin slippage occurs, the skin cannot just be peeled off, as it does not come off all in one piece. It must be sloughed off.
Absolutely right. Think about when you have a sunburn or an injury with lots of swelling - the skin sloughs off. I'm experiencing that now with a broken limb. When I bathe, the skins just rolls off in small pieces. I wish I knew what caused it in this case but I'm at loss other than chemicals perhaps.

They made a short statement, he was devastated and he was sorry, very generic, probably the lawyers words because something was expected to be said.

Absolutely the work of his counsellors to express a level of sorrow of which their client is incapable. Had he written an honest statement it would have gone something like, "I'm truly, truly sorry I am not the totally brilliant person I've always been told and that I got caught. I am more sorry for myself than you know."

"This didn't go according to plan, and for that I'm sorry."

I think her first three were out of wedlock. She decided to keep the third because she felt it was embarrassing to give up so many kids.

CP mom came from a very abused childhood. And her dad was murdered. Her mom had a breakdown and put her in an orphanage. I feel sure she had an attachment disorder.

"Mr. Watts has asked us to share this morning that he is devastated by all of this. Although he understands that his words are hollow at this point, he is sincerely sorry for all of this."

The end.

True. He is well on his way to becoming someone else, the next phase of his life which IMO will mean he won't see his family.
He'll do fine if not murdered.
I really believe this because he won't have to make any decisions, take any responsibility, make any money, he'll get 3 squares, a roof, health care and diversions like books, if he behaves himself. But he will be a different person than anyone knew before, including his family.

ETA and the joy of having female followers and sycophants

I agree, he is on his way to becoming someone else to the people who know him best, he is becoming his true self, the mask has slipped for all the world to see.

I hope alone in his cell he hears the splash, splash, splash ala the tapping in The Raven. "Nevermore."

'All of this'

I feel like he just means the courtroom stuff.

"I am devastated that I have to sit here in shackles, listening to you all get weepy over those people. They made me show up, and for that I am sincerely sorry."

The part that broke me down the most today was hearing Bella fought for her life and hearing about the damage incurred by being shoved into the tanks. Even the disclosure of one tank being less full based on the splashing sound just made my blood run cold. How on earth could someone do those things to innocent children just because they didn't want to have to pay for them or care for them any longer?? I realize we'll never wrap our heads around it because we don't suffer from that disorder but still...
Poor Bella had the most wounds, didn't they all think Bella was the most like him? I just can't imagine a loving daddy doing any of this to his children. That's the one thing that stood out to me about the dad's statement, "I know he loves his girls". Well, I don't think he could love them at all.

Sorry, having tech difficulties quoting your post @Nellie Nelson

From their autopsies:

Bella

'There is postmortem artifact consisting of bloating, marbling of the abdominal surfaces and areas of skin slippage. Unfortunately, the body was found in an oil tanker containing oil and aqueous fluid. This resulted in abundant skin slippage upon washing.'

Celeste
'The body exhibits mild postmortem artifact consisting of generalized bloating, areas of marbling, skin discoloration and skin slippage. During the washing procedure, the majority of the skin is sloughed from the surface.'[/QUOTE]
Thanks Nellie, I was hoping someone knows if her palms fell off or if it was like scraping a sample from Cece's INTACT palm skin, any idea?
Hi WSers, can someone explain or link me to where it was explained here about CeCe's hands?

Did her skin come off?

EXTREMITIES:
UPPER EXTREMITIES: The upper extremities are well-developed and
symmetrical. The palmar surfaces of the hands were previously sloughed
off during the body recovery process and are packaged separately. The
palmar surfaces of the hands and digits and the accompanying
fingernails are retained and transferred to the jurisdiction of the
Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Thank you

A day later I still feel so sick thinking about what happened to them all and how he did it. Part of me 'slightly' understands why CWs parents can't go there in their heads.. As to truly think your child did this would be so absolutely horrific.

After my comments yesterday about disagreeing with the way they forgave him, Ive read other people's opinions and can appreciate it may come from a place of fear (eg not seeing him again or if he suicides).

However I still stand by my comment that I felt their forgiveness came on so strong like it was a pattern of behaviour.. Eg enabling.

I just still feel they haven't truly came to terms with what he did and the gravity of it. A more reflective omment could have been 'we love you so much son, even though we are struggling with what YOU did we still love you and need to come to terms with this'

I felt that even though they were more aware (probably instructed by a lawyer) the Watts were still prepared for combat.. Eg Mrs W making a statement about how people won't understand her and how she can forgive so easily. There's a reason people may feel that way and that is because her son is responsible. I still think her behaviour shows emmeshment with CW. If she wasnt she would recognize the significance of what he has done to her grand babies.

JMO and despite saying this my heart does still go out to them as trying to come to terms with your son being an annihilator would be absolutely horrendous.
