Another interview with Rourke after the sentencing:

Some snippets of new info in this video.

Rourke talking about Chris Watts:

"His statement to investigators was, they were very clearly and obviously dead, so I decided to dispose of their bodies.

He didn't call 911. He didn't try CPR. You [Watts] didn't even check on 'em, to see if they were breathing".

Mr Rourke also refers to something that there has been a lot of speculation and debate about here - he says WTTEO that the natural instinctive reaction to someone attempting to strangle you is to try to grab/scratch/bite - do anything to stop it. He says the lack of any evidence that this occurred led investigators to speculate that Shannan had been asleep when the assault started.

Me too. Fully agree. I think their moral compass is a bit messed up and the behavior patterns are generational. There they were love bombing him at the sentencing.. Inappropriate.. May explain why CW has no appropriate boundaries either. Eg coming on strong etc.. Learnt behaviour.

The issue I have is that the term forgiveness to me has meaning. Like the word sorry people throw it around in every day use. However it's a process. You need to fully grasp what he has done to even begin to comprehend what forgiveness actually is. Makes me wonder if he was every taught limits, what is appropriate and not. Or whether he grew up with permissive parenting, where everything was excused away or downplayed.
Or blamed on someone else or he was forced to do it because someone made him.

I wonder if he went around the house before SW returned home, locking all doors, windows so that she couldn’t try to escape, locking the front door after she came in.
I doubt it.

Unfortunately, all he had to do was grab her by the throat. She never stood a chance, and he likely knew this beforehand.

The possibility of her getting away probably never entered his mind.

Rourke also says they considered making CW give a detailed account of what happened that night as part of the plea agreement, but Shanann's family didn't think CW would agree to that.

They always had a Facebook page (public) AND a group (private). The page that you left the review is now gone, the private group where you have to be a member to see anything is still there, and that’s what you can see now
Mrs. Watts' genius email letter writer to the judge no longer appears to be welcome on the podcast that shall not be named. I have no idea how accurate that is nor do I care. I'm just hoping this means their "media specialist" has moved on to "pursue other opportunities" or "spend more time with family."

I have to agree.

Given what happened I can only infer that CW is dumb, and probably would make the protagonists of dumb and dumber look like professors of logic and sciences. But it does look like he was somewhat aware of how things would go down or just "lucked out".

I am sure Shannan would have checked on the kids first thing after reaching home, and if she did find them murdered she would have fought pretty badly.

Also lupus + other health issues + pregnancy + late night flight after a conference will make anyone completly tired. I had chronic fatigue and used to travel for work, the sleep I used to get after getting home was a deep sleep from which no one can wake me up if they tried. I am a 6'3 250lb guy. If my 140 lb partner strangled me at that time, she would have succeeded without any resistance from my side.

I would like to believe that Shannan went without even realizing. One can only hope.

Of course all this is : MOO
x2, on everything you mentioned.

True, especially if he strangled her while she was sleeping, which the evidence so far suggests. He was too much of a wimp to give her the chance to defend herself or escape.

According to the autopsy, the skin of Celeste's palms fell off/sloughed off as the body was being recovered.

"EXTREMITIES: UPPER EXTREMITIES:

The upper extremities are well-developed and symmetrical. The palmar surfaces of the hands were previously sloughed off during the body recovery process and are packaged separately. The palmar surfaces of the hands and digits and the accompanying fingernails are retained and transferred to the jurisdiction of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation."

It is also noted that swabs were taken from all the victim's palm surfaces, including Nico. :(
:(:(:(

Right. I think she admitted to being "an adulterer." She made the wrong choice. Having an affair is not uncommon. I don't know the statistics but it likely happens much more than people admit. At one time it was something like 60% of men and 40% of women. People wondered how that could be. I think it's because men are more likely to admit it. Compared to what CW has done, its really not significant, imo.

I think that 20% difference may be:
- because the study did not ask about the sexual preference of the participants; a predominantly straight man having one gay affair may account for two men,
- also, because women either don't want to tell the truth, or have rationalized to themselves that they were not cheating "that time" and blocked it
- or the situation when a woman has ten affair, and each of the men she had affair with, only one, her. It is quite possible, and skews the statistics.

But in NK's situation, she is the adulterer only if she was married during the affair. If she was single, she is not. CW, being married, definitely was.

I agree - I think if Chris doesn't top himself, he'll take to prison life like a duck to water. Clear hierarchies, no need to think for himself, someone else making his schedule for him and giving him his chores, mealtimes and bedtimes, and everything provided for him in a regimented fashion. And, of course, the eventual fanmail...

Trying to catch up, been gone all day. But to the post above^
Yes and yes or the best part of it all is if someone else off's him in a torturous way or Bubba visits him daily.
I know, they have to "protect" him which is why I think he will be sent out of Colorado or maybe not. Cindy Watts was right when she said he would have been better off with the death penalty because at least he would have been in solitary.
She knows what he is in for.

CW had everything -- everything. SO many people in this world would drop to their knees in gratitude to have what he had -- a beautiful, intelligent, fun wife who adored him and appreciated him; two adoring and adorable healthy children with another on the way; parents and a sister who loved him unconditionally; in-laws who embraced him as their own. He had so much family, so much love, so much loneliness in the world but he had abundance. He murdered the ones who loved him so why? For some young woman he had known for a matter of WEEKS? No one can make sense of this. How can he make sense of it, even to himself? Does he understand that even if he cannot feel genuine remorse or sadness for anyone other than himself, he is a failed human being? Does he feel sadness that he cannot feel sadness for his own children? Despicable.

Great Post. Thanks.

A day later I still feel so sick thinking about what happened to them all and how he did it. Part of me 'slightly' understands why CWs parents can't go there in their heads.. As to truly think your child did this would be so absolutely horrific.

After my comments yesterday about disagreeing with the way they forgave him, Ive read other people's opinions and can appreciate it may come from a place of fear (eg not seeing him again or if he suicides).

However I still stand by my comment that I felt their forgiveness came on so strong like it was a pattern of behaviour.. Eg enabling.

I just still feel they haven't truly came to terms with what he did and the gravity of it. A more reflective omment could have been 'we love you so much son, even though we are struggling with what YOU did we still love you and need to come to terms with this'

I felt that even though they were more aware (probably instructed by a lawyer) the Watts were still prepared for combat.. Eg Mrs W making a statement about how people won't understand her and how she can forgive so easily. There's a reason people may feel that way and that is because her son is responsible. I still think her behaviour shows emmeshment with CW. If she wasnt she would recognize the significance of what he has done to her grand babies.

JMO and despite saying this my heart does still go out to them as trying to come to terms with your son being an annihilator would be absolutely horrendous.
I get forgiveness, and think it’s an important place to aspire to, but I think it’s a process, and it takes time to go from shock, horror, sorrow, loss, and anger to forgiveness.

Yes, all of that. Another wonderful little family gone, and her parents who were unknowing for most of that time, were powerless to help out their Sha'nann. And now nothing will bring her back.
But in this case, the scheming, selfish, stupid murderer of four was caught quickly and is now serving many lifetimes plus, plus, plus.
Her family members have each other to love and to share memories. He will have no one. And in a while -- months or years after this day, the person he will probably hate most is himself.

Thanks @borndem.

Couldn't sleep last night, kept roladexing this in my mind. Just learning what we learned yesterday was very sad, we will never know the worst of it, imo. He will take that to the grave with him and I believe it was horrific.

I didn’t sleep last night either. Kept thinking about the details over and over. And then...I got angry thinking about Chris Watts mother’s statement. She said something about “what happened”...and never said “what YOU did”. She still hasn’t accepted he DID this or is making him accountable. No wonder he is who he is...he’s never been accountable to anyone for anything.

How can you forgive someone that you never blamed?
Apparently, C & R Watts met with the DA over the weekend in the capacity as victims of the crime, and as victims they were shown the same evidence that the Rzucek’s were shown. When shown the evidence they made a turn around, and came to the conclusion that there was no denying CW’s guilt. Less than 48 hours later they forgave him. I think that’s way too soon. Don’t you?

I have no compassion or sympathy for any woman or man willingly have an affair no matter if they are called an adulterer or not who gets involved with a married person still living in the same household as their spouse especially with children unless they are separated. That’s just my moral compass on how I was raised. Some people have no values. IMHO
