Lanza killed all but one student in Rousseau's class, where the children were massed together in a back corner of the room near a bathroom. One girl escaped because she played dead and ran out of the room after Lanza left.

He then backtracked to teacher Victoria Soto's room.

A source familiar with the investigation said authorities believe Lanza started walking toward the back of Soto's classroom where the bathroom was located when he noticed some of the children hiding under desks.

Lanza shot those students. At some point he stopped shooting, giving six children the opportunity to escape. Soto had placed another group of children in a closet, where they were found alive by authorities.

Some bullets struck three cars in the parking lot and police originally investigated the theory that he was shooting at responding officers. They now believe he was aiming at a teacher who was standing near the window.

Lanza shot and killed himself in Soto's room with one of the two pistols he was carrying as authorities were closing in.

New Nancy Lanza Profile Is a Letdown

Katie J.M. Baker

It's been two months since 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed six female teachers and 20 first-graders at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut before turning the gun on himself. Some of us (including Obama) often forget to mention his 27th victim: Nancy, his mother.

The Hartford Courant and Frontline just released an extensive profile of Nancy, remembered by some as "a villain, a gun-obsessed mother who allowed her disturbed son access to firearms and let him fester in the basement playing violent video games while she traveled and enjoyed night life" but by others as a caring mother who did the best she could. 6,000-something words later, it's still unclear what, if anything, she did wrong...

Two officials said evidence had been uncovered suggesting that Lanza was determined to top Breivik’s death count. The officials added that investigators had found credible evidence that Lanza was probably even obsessed with Breivik.

They also found evidence that Lanza had zeroed in on Sandy Hook Elementary School because he felt it was the “easiest target" with the "largest cluster of people."

Adam Lanza's Interest In Deadly Norway Attack May Have Sparked Sandy Hook Massacre

By DAVE ALTIMARI and EDMUND H. MAHONY, daltimar@courant.comThe Hartford Courant

Investigators have a theory that Adam Lanza's interest in Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik might have led to the Dec. 14 massacre that left 20 children and six women dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The theory is based in part on several news articles about Breivik that investigators found in one of Lanza's two bedrooms at the Newtown home where he lived with his mother, Nancy Lanza, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.

The sources emphasized that an interest in Breivik is just one theory. Sources said Connecticut law enforcement officials traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to brief unidentified federal authorities on the status of the investigation and discussed the possible Breivik connection.

They are talking on AC 360 now .. about this ...

I watched the cbs report, read the written version and was watching CNN when Wolf, in for AC, discussed it as well as the denial by LE.

Darkman you mentioned watching the coverage on CNN, did you find their "expert" guests as incompetent, enraging and having no understanding of the facts of the massacre?

As far as this new theory, given the denial by LE, I find this imitating Anders Breivik theory to be malarkey.

I'm guessing that there was close to zero evidence in terms of motive and this is a exercise of throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

(WTNH) -- A student from Central Connecticut State University is honoring first responders from Newtown. He designed pins for them to wear and all of the proceeds go to charity and he's already sold thousands of them.

They were the first ones into Sandy Hook Elementary School, the police officers and paramedics, and they are the first ones being remembered by David Rohner.

He is a CCSU student who comes from a long line of officers. His father and his uncle both serve and protect so he designed a Newtown pin for officers to wear and all proceeds go to the Newtown Police Officers Union.

"Officer Penna, who was the first officer to enter the second room, found a girl standing alone amid the bodies. She appeared to be in shock, and was covered in blood, but had not been injured. He, not knowing the gunman had been found, told her to stay put.

He ran into the next classroom and saw the dead gunman, with Officers Chapman and Smith standing nearby. State troopers and other officers were now flooding in. Officer Penna returned to the second classroom, his rifle slung around his chest, grabbed the uninjured girl by the arm and ran with her out to a triage area set up in the parking lot. "

Newtown families form tight bonds with troopers

As the family of slain Sandy Hook school psychologist Mary Sherlach mourned her death, Trooper Orlando "Lonny" Mo was the one who brought back her car and personal belongings. He escorted her husband and daughters to a meeting with the president, he answered the door at the family's house, and at the funeral he embraced her husband, Bill Sherlach, who told Mo he was like a brother.
...

The parents of 6-year-old victim Josephine Gay often text and email with their trooper liaison and another trooper they met the day of the shooting. One donated his pay from the day of the shooting to a memorial fund they set up in their daughter's name, benefiting families with autistic children.

"Who would have ever guessed that state troopers could also serve as therapists?" Michele Gay said. "Just their presence, their strength, the way that they were there for us was enormously comforting and still is."

Yes, great article. It's good to finally learn more.

"

I wonder how things would have been different had Adam stayed in school. I still don't understand NL decisions. Three things stick out ... cutting out family (not sure though who wanted that or why), taking him out of school and not utilizing their resources, and the guns/video games/isolated basement. I really can't understand how she thought he was going to become more independent.

That part of the article about NL pulling AL out of school when he was making progress also stood out for me. NL's described behavior is just very odd - you can tell she was trying to get help but at the same time it seems like she was going backwards.

I have a socially awkward son (not nearly as difficult as AL though) and I can relate to some of what she went through. I know at times it's easier to just let him stay in his room and play video games. I don't want to push him to do things against his will but I do tell him he HAS to join some sort of extracurricular activity. Once he becomes comfortable with people, he really opens up.

It seems like NL - who was told a stable environment was what AL needed - chose to stay in Newtown because of that but at the same time pulling him out of schools left and right must have been detrimental to that idea of stability. It also seems like she was getting a lot of support from the public school. I guess we will just never know for sure why she did what she did. :(

Hopefully the official report gets as much attention as these endless, titillating, shocking media reports/rumors.

People seem so quick to forget the endless stream of completely false news reports about this tragedy (specifically related to the Lanza family) and jump on the bandwagon of the newest malarkey being shoved down our pieholes through their splashy headlines based on rumor and speculation.

It's sad how the retraction/correction of the continuous stream of malarkey doesn't receive the same splashy headlines and attention as the initial poorly sourced article.

New photos, details emerge of Newtown mass shooter Adam Lanza

Adam was diagnosed at a young age with sensory integration disorder, a medically controversial diagnosis that meant Adam had trouble coping with bright lights, loud noises, and knowing when he was in pain. Later, when he was in middle school, Adam was also diagnosed with Asperger's, a condition related to autism that can make social interaction challenging. (Medical experts cautioned that autism disorders are not associated with violent behavior.)
