Government to shut schools in event of UK coronavirus outbreak
No 10 planning for ‘all eventualities’ if number of coronavirus cases surge in UK

Emergency planners would consider temporarily shutting schools in affected areas if there was a sudden surge in coronavirus cases in any part of the UK, as part of contingency plans being drawn up by the government.

Shutting down movement within the UK is seen as counterproductive, according to the official plan being followed by the department. There is “a lack of scientific evidence on the impact of internal travel restrictions on transmission” and it concludes that “for these reasons, the working presumption will be that government will not impose any such restrictions” on travel in a pandemic situation.

Public gatherings are also unlikely to be restricted because there is “very limited evidence that restrictions on mass gatherings will have any significant effect on influenza virus transmission”. Crowded places “are an important indicator of ‘normality’ and may help maintain public morale during a pandemic”.

Well, if you were not infected before, this line up just might do the trick (of catching the virus). I would not be in that line!

Well this has popped up again..
Did coronavirus outbreak begin from infectious disease lab in Wuhan?
February 24, 2020
''A specialist infectious disease laboratory located in the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in China may in fact be ground zero for the disease.

China’s only Level 4 microbiology lab is facing increasing scrutiny after the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive titled “Instructions on strengthening biosecurity management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.”

“It sure sounds like China has a problem keeping dangerous pathogens in test tubes where they belong, doesn’t it?” argues Steven W. Mosher, president of Virginia-based Population Research Institute, in the New York Post.

The National Biosafety Laboratory, located in the Wuhan Institute of Virology, is the only lab equipped to handle deadly coronaviruses. And Wuhan is at the centre of the outbreak, with nearly 77,000 people infected and more than 2,500 deaths in China.''

WAIT FOR IT, omg! rbbm.
“The virus may have been carried out of the lab by an infected worker or crossed over into humans when they unknowingly dined on a lab animal,” Mosher writes.

Gotta be really hungry to eat animals from biotech labs!

Just wrapping up this morning’s conference...(my tummy is better now. )

WOW. That was quite an excellent, intelligent & brilliant conference, (as usual), imo. These persons on the WHO panel are just so impressive and really come from a place of education and experience.

I am left feeling quite optimistic and frankly relieved to hear the latest statement from WHO. I thought the PC was quite encouraging, especially after what I would consider being a rather “intense” day here yesterday, getting supplies, overdosing on ice cream...

As stated in the conference, this is still the time for preparedness. This is the recommended phase that everybody should in. While there are still many unknowns, the joint cooperation and expertise coming out by all the various scientists, etc. is remarkable, imo. The three key objectives stated in the conference are paramount, the top of the list being the focused effort in protecting all health workers.

It seems my 50/50 prediction and caution in using the “P word” was on track, and I’m glad that we will continue to base our approaches and discussions “based on facts, not fear”.

So, as of late, the “P” word stands just as that, a letter. While the latest cases out of Italy, Iran and South Korea are “deeply concerning”, we are not yet seeing the Greek “Pandemos”, as referred to by Dr. Mike.

We now should be prepared amongst ourselves. I feel 100 percent confident atm that WHO has got this in the bag, to the absolute best of their abilities. We really live in amazing world now with the advancements in technology, communication and the dissemination of information globally. Moo.

WHO Director-General's opening remarks at the media briefing on COVID-19 - 24 February 2020

“Good afternoon everyone.

Let me start, as always, with the latest numbers.

As of 6am Geneva time this morning, China has reported a total of 77,362 cases of COVID-19 to WHO, including 2618 deaths.

In the past 24 hours, China has reported 416 new confirmed cases, and 150 deaths.

We’re encouraged by the continued decline in cases in China.

Earlier today the WHO-China joint mission concluded its visit and delivered its report.

As you know, the team has traveled to several different provinces, including Wuhan.

The team has made a range of findings about the transmissibility of the virus, the severity of disease and the impact of the measures taken.

They found that the epidemic peaked and plateaued between the 23rd of January and the 2nd of February, and has been declining steadily since then.

They have found that there has been no significant change in the DNA of the virus.

They found that the fatality rate is between 2% and 4% in Wuhan, and 0.7% outside Wuhan.

They found that for people with mild disease, recovery time is about two weeks, while people with severe or critical disease recover within three to six weeks.

The team also estimate that the measures taken in China have averted a significant number of cases.

The report contains a wealth of other information, highlights questions for which we still don’t have answers, and includes 22 recommendations.

Dr Bruce Aylward will give more detail tomorrow on behalf of the joint team.

But the key message that should give all countries hope, courage and confidence is that this virus can be contained.

Indeed, there are many countries that have done exactly that.

Outside China, there are now 2074 cases in 28 countries, and 23 deaths.

The sudden increases of cases in Italy, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Korea are deeply concerning.

There’s a lot of speculation about whether these increases mean that this epidemic has now become a pandemic.

We understand why people ask that question.

WHO has already declared a public health emergency of international concern – our highest level of alarm – when there were less than 100 cases outside China, and 8 cases of human-to-human transmission.

Our decision about whether to use the word “pandemic” to describe an epidemic is based on an ongoing assessment of the geographical spread of the virus, the severity of disease it causes and the impact it has on the whole of society.

For the moment, we are not witnessing the uncontained global spread of this virus, and we are not witnessing large-scale severe disease or death.

Does this virus have pandemic potential? Absolutely, it has. Are we there yet? From our assessment, not yet.

So how should we describe the current situation?

What we see are epidemics in different parts of the world, affecting countries in different ways and requiring a tailored response.

The sudden increase in new cases is certainly very concerning.

I have spoken consistently about the need for facts, not fear.

Using the word pandemic now does not fit the facts, but it may certainly cause fear.

This is not the time to focus on what word we use.

That will not prevent a single infection today, or save a single life today.

This is a time for all countries, communities, families and individuals to focus on preparing.

We do not live in a binary, black-and-white world.

It’s not either-or. We must focus on containment, while doing everything we can to prepare for a potential pandemic.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Every country must make its own risk assessment for its own context. WHO is also continuing to do its own risk assessment and is monitoring the evolution of the epidemic around the clock.

But there are at least three priorities.

First, all countries must prioritize protecting health workers.

Second, we must engage communities to protect people who are most at risk of severe disease, particularly the elderly and people with underlying health conditions.

And third, we must protect countries that are the most vulnerable, by doing our utmost to contain epidemics in countries with the capacity to do it.

In the past few days I have held meetings with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Indonesia, Cuba and the Republic of Korea, and I want to thank them for agreeing to support the response.

I also wish to thank the European Commission for its contribution of 232 million euros, which demonstrates the kind of global solidarity that gives me hope. France, Germany and Sweden have also announced additional contributions.

This is a shared threat. We can only face it together, and we can only overcome it together.

When we act together – countries, regional and global health organizations, the media, the private sector, and people everywhere – our collective strength is formidable.

Alone, we lose. Together, we win.

I thank you.”

I can see it.

Also BNO is still keeping track.....if the data doesn't get suppressed......

Tracking coronavirus: Map, data and timeline

The BNO site is my personal favorite to keep up to date on the reported numbers.

They have a nice "chart" graph toward the very bottom that shows daily numbers by date.

And their international map with the Red Dots which is near the top is also good where you can click on the dots and get statistics about that specific spot.

New York(CNN Business)Shares of American biotech firm Gilead Sciences rose nearly 5% Monday after an official from the World Health Organization said that Gilead's drug remdesivir is showing signs that it may be able to help treat the deadly coronavirus.

Gilead Sciences (GILD) was the second-best performing stock in the S&P 500 and was just one of two stocks in the Nasdaq-100 that was trading higher on Monday, when the Dow plunged more than 1,000 points due to fears about the disease spreading to Italy, South Korea and Iran.

"There is only one drug right now that we think may have real efficacy and that's remdesivir," Bruce Aylward, an assistant director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said at a press conference in Beijing.

What happens to Americans who are relying on Chinese manufacturers and suppliers?? Which is a BIG NUMBER Moo.

Made in USA folks. C’Mon please start manufacturing. Moo. End political statement.

Also, it’s like the fisherman, etc., and the BP Oil Spill...they took a hit...

It's literally every. single. one. of us relying on supplies from China. Most of us have basically no idea though.

Prayers that this drug works!

Hello again! I took a break from this thread since last Wednesday and it's been very peaceful for me. lol Then I started seeing way more things pop up than I could ignore online. I popped in and tried to read in the last thread but am still 50 pages behind plus this thread!

Reconfiguring supplies to stock up on around here. It looks like things are positively exploding and we have several countries that are where China was in numbers when I first started reading about it on here at Websleuths. *shudder*

I'd love to hear herbal antiviral recommendations. I'm already loaded up on elderberry tincture. But I have so much going on in real life I never get around to looking into more things. We do take vitamin D daily. I added betaglucan back into my supplements. It was massively helpful to me in the past for boosting my immune system and I take mushrooms daily too in diet and powdered form. But I can't get near the betaglucan amount from those capsules as taking it separately.

Interesting about that drug.

"Remdesivir - It was developed by Gilead Sciences as a treatment for Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus infections,[1] though it has subsequently also been found to show antiviral activity against other single stranded RNA viruses"
