How mean is that? They have done similar with the tennis courts and football pitch near me. Locked them I mean. I know kids have to stay home but a family could go and play tennis or go skateboarding. I know, social distancing, but kids are the low risk group and they are thinking of sending them back to school, or have already done so (Denmark) in some places.
BBM

The problem is that a family group can’t prevent others from using the skate park or tennis courts at the same time...and there goes social distancing. Kids may be at low risk of catching COVID-19 but they can be asymptomatic carriers. Time will tell how well sending them back to school works for the adults in their lives.

I don't think doctors know much about these childhood diseases. I never caught it when my siblings got it, then when I had kids, they caught it and I thought, I'm in for it now but I still never caught it. My doctor at the time said I must have been immune to it. I never had the smallpox jab either as I did not react when they did the test. It must have been all the unpasteurized milk I drank as a kid. Anyone know why it is called chicken pox,

Really? I think most doctors know a lot about those diseases. It's well known that weak cases of mumps or chicken pox do not grant immunity and that getting them as adults can be very very serious.

Unpasteurized milk has bacteria in it, not viruses - but would definitely help your immune system build if started early enough. Adults, again, would be ill-advised to exposed themselves to it.

It's called a "pox" disease because it makes crater-like marks all over the body (google it; google pictures of small pox - small pox is much worse). Pox is an Old English word for "zit" or "spot."

None of the pox diseases were known until humans invented farming and then agriculture and settled down in groups near other animals. Many early infectious diseases come from other animals. Small pox most likely came from rodents in Egypt or Sumeria, once people began storing grain in their homes.

Mumps, so mild in kids, can be terrible for adults. My dad almost died of it around age 26. He wouldn't have been my dad without that incident though, as it rendered him sterile and after about a decade, he finally accepted that idea and he and mom adopted me.

This is absolutely brilliant, would love to have seen the kids' faces when they turned up the next day!

I keep saying that this whole thing, for the under 20 set, is going to be character building. They are not used to hearing "no." Americans in general have forgotten what the word means. Some of us still living do remember different times! It's fine not to have everything we want, right at the minute we want it. Breeds creativity and resourcefulness.

One thing we have plenty of, in SoCal, is sand.

When do the Stones come on? And Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney? During the main show at 8?

I love Adam Lambert’s shirt and blue colors. He looks so pretty. :)

That Indian song was pretty too.

That Sofi Tucker song was a fly jam.

CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN RULES (clear as mud)

1. You MUST NOT leave the house for any reason, but if you have a reason, you can leave the house

2. Masks are useless at protecting you against the virus, but you may have to wear one because it can save lives, but they may not work, but they may be mandatory, but maybe not

3. Shops are closed, except those shops that are open

4. You must not go to work but you can get another job and go to work

5. You should not go to the doctors or to the hospital unless you have to go there, unless you are too poorly to go there

6. This virus can kill people, but don’t be scared of it. It can only kill those people who are vulnerable or those people who are not vulnerable people. It’s possible to contain and control it, sometimes, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster

7. Gloves won't help, but they can still help so wear them sometimes or not

8. STAY HOME, but it's important to go out

9. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarkets, but there are many things missing. Sometimes you won’t need loo rolls but you should buy some just in case you need some

10. The virus has no effect on children except those children it affects

11. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…

12. Stay 2 metres away from tigers (see point 11)

13. You will have many symptoms if you get the virus, but you can also get symptoms without getting the virus, get the virus without having any symptoms or be contagious without having symptoms, or be non contagious with symptoms...

14. To help protect yourself you should eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand as it's better not to go out shopping

15. It's important to get fresh air but don't go to parks but go for a walk. But don’t sit down, except if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant or if you’re not old or pregnant but need to sit down. If you do sit down don’t eat your picnic

16. Don’t visit old people but you have to take care of the old people and bring them food and medication

17. If you are sick, you can go out when you are better but anyone else in your household can’t go out when you are better unless they need to go out

18. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house. These deliveries are safe. But groceries you bring back to your house have to be decontaminated outside for 3 hours including Pizza...

19. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but they can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver

20. You are safe if you maintain the safe social distance when out but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance

21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours ... or four hours... six hours... I mean days, not hours... But it needs a damp environment. Or a cold environment that is warm and dry... in the air, as long as the air is not plastic

22. Schools are closed so you need to home educate your children, unless you can send them to school because you’re not at home. If you are at home you can home educate your children using various portals and virtual class rooms, unless you have poor internet, or more than one child and only one computer, or you are working from home. Baking cakes can be considered maths, science or art. If you are home educating you can include household chores to be education. If you are home educating you can start drinking at 10am

23. If you are not home educating children you can also start drinking at 10am

24. The number of corona related deaths will be announced daily but we don't know how many people are infected as they are only testing those who are almost dead to find out if that's what they will die of… the people who die of corona who aren’t counted won’t be counted

25. You should stay in locked down until the virus stops infecting people but it will only stop infecting people if we all get infected so it’s important we get infected and some don’t get infected

The “Liberate” demonstrations have made it abundantly clear that there are plenty who don’t want their character built by being told “No” for the greater good of society. Totally selfish IMO.

Yes, tonight. For us in Oregon it will start at 5:00 pm.

Had to make my trip to the store today:rolleyes:. I try to go every 2 weeks at the least. Any who, I was standing waiting on a prescription, and this older man asked an older lady why she was not covered (no mask, no gloves). Her response, I'm not scared.......

My response, You may not be scared, but you could be a silent carrier and spreading it to the rest of us.

Of course, I have a home made mask and gloves, but that is for ME and EVERYONE else in that store!

We have 4 positive cases in my parish, but the big question is HOW MANY ASYMPTOMATIC!!

One positive note, I did not hear any coughing and hacking, so that made me feel good!

Did he know where he got it?? Does he have lingering lethargy? And lasting symptoms?

A good friend of mine got it very early all things considered, so doctors were trying everything else on her and her son.... because they didn't have the "lineup of symptoms" organized yet to actually declare it covid in the beginning. I think she was even tested way after. But she never ever knew where she got it. She lives in New York, --still a rather rural county...but only about 90 minutes from Manhatten...so who knows. The significant difference was how badly she got it, and how mildly her son got it. (He is about 19, highly autistic), so they couldn't really ask him so much. So she got it 5 weeks ago...and is still very very tired. I just soooo fear of possible second or third phases. The sooner we get an idea of that the better.
How to ever know for 100% certainty. We do know that one of his clients tested positive. DH was still doing in-person counseling 3 weeks ago and was in the process of setting up tele-health links with those who agreed to it. Needed consent. So probably from that client because symptoms started 5 days later.

He's had a few up and down days and a second trip to the ER last Sunday (Easter) because of breathing difficulties. They checked him out - bloodwork, chest scan etc and sent him back home. He was not sick enough to admit. I appreciate it now, as they did not want to expose him to viral load by admitting him among other sicker patients.

The rest of us - my daughter, my SIL, my 3 year old grandson and myself as well have been symptom free the entire time. I may have experienced some, such as tightening in my chest and some coughing. But I do weight training and yoga and there is tree pollen around already, so who knows what I was suffering from. I actually hope I did have it and that was all there was to it.

We are at the 14 day mark since DH had symptoms today and past 14 days for our exposure to him. Hopeful for some instinctual guidance on how to proceed and also to remain on the upswing.

Dr. Phil's comments were stupid too - that we don't shut down for car crashes or drownings.

Well, car crashes and drowning are not contagious.

Car crashes and drowning don't all happen in huge numbers, overwhelming the hospitals.

That doesn't mean car crashes and drownings aren't tragic - measures should be taken to minimize them - but they are hardly comparable to Covid.

But, I'm sure people nodded and said, "Yah! People die in cars every day and we still can go to the movies."

I don't go to twitter very often but i did send Dr. Phil a tweet: told him his comment was unintelligent and that i was greatly disappointed in him.

I know about mumps, measles and rubella and how serious they can be in adulthood and childhood too, some of them. I only ever remember having rubella as a kid myself. I understand the word "pox" and what the chicken pox entails- I nursed my siblings and my kids thru it and other childhood diseases I am asking about the "chicken" part of the name really. I have known several people have shingles and the doctors knew nothing about it so that's why I made that comment. Regarding small pox, it was found that milk maids did not get smallpox and that is how the vaccination was developed, from the cow pox disease. It is a very interesting subject. Perhaps the raw milk gave me the cow pox and that made me immune to chicken and smallpox. My kids grew up on pasteurized milk of course, and they caught the chicken pox. So it is interesting.
