Thanks @SouthAussie. I go nowhere and my husband hardly anywhere. Doing our best to stay safe.

Reading these posts, I can’t imagine why the word “dystopian” runs on a loop through my mind! /s
We are living a nightmare on so many levels.

You know, I look and look for heartening info every day. I am just coming up blank at the moment. :(

There are lots of Aussie jokey things out there about our super speedy lockdown, but they only apply to us.

Political commentator Rachel Maddow returned to her show on MSNBC tonight, broadcasting from home without makeup, wearing glasses and managing (“McGyvering”) her own mic and earpiece. She had been gone for two weeks in isolation because “someone close to her” had tested positive (Rachel has continued to test negative). It turned out to be her longtime partner Susan Mikula who was very ill and almost died while they stayed apart. After an emotional explanation Rachel said:

"Whatever you think of your own life and however much risk you are willing to take on for yourself, that's not how this works," she said. "What you need to know is that whoever is the most important person in your life, whoever you most love and most care for and most cherish in the world, that's the person who you may lose or who you may spend weeks up all night freaking out about and calling doctors all over the place and trying to figure out how to keep that person breathing and out of the hospital."

Maddow concluded: "This thing is scary as hell and whatever you've been willing to do to risk getting it, don't. Just don't do it. So that is what's been going on with me."

LOVE IT! Thank you. :D

How many people are wearing their masks properly, though? How many are wearing those stupid gators and other things that don't hold back squat? If everyone was masked properly...but they aren't. Between substandard masks and people with their noses hanging out...

We use an app and do curbside pick-up. No added fees. No running around in the covid factory.

Talk about a "Covid Factory", I just can't believe people who are still going out to eat at restaurants and going to bars. I stopped for take-out at a local place, famous for wings and beer. The place was packed! The patrons were yelling, because there was some sort of sports match, none of them had masks on because they were eating and drinking. It was insanity.

I hustled in, picked up our food, hustled out, and stuck my mask in my "dirty" bag. I don't even want to order take-out any longer. And the place did not seem to have a lot of great air exchange or ventilation.

I am working in a clinic near the Ohio/Indiana border today. First thing in the morning I found out that the COVID test results for 6 members of one family all came back positive.

That’s mom and dad, and 4 kids. All the kids had been attending school, mom and dad both work full time. How many people have been exposed by this one family? Schoolmates, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, teachers, coworkers, etc. Have they been shopping? To restaurants?
Sports? Church? Grandparents?

Circling back around to where we were in the beginning... helping with my ignorance on so many matters. Today they are talking at the introduction of the "one health leaders group" about antimicrobial resistance week...prior to their meeting today with COVID focus.

I did such focus through March/April... and didn't even follow MSM at that time on the pandemic. I'm headed back joining @margarita25 who has always followed without fault to today's live presser

So disgusting-- and so dangerous

Very interesting! I'd like to know more about the antibody treatment.

BBM:
"...treating with neutralizing antibodies against TNF-α and IFN-γ protected mice from mortality during SARS-CoV-2 infection, sepsis, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, and cytokine shock. Collectively, our findings suggest that blocking the cytokine-mediated inflammatory cell death signaling pathway identified here may benefit patients with COVID-19 or other infectious and autoinflammatory diseases by limiting tissue damage/inflammation."

OREGON REPORT—Sad day for the state and for my county (Jackson)

OHA reports new records and renewed determination

We are saddened to report that today marks the highest number of cases and deaths reported in a single day in Oregon since the beginning of the pandemic. OHA reports 1,225 new confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases and 20 new deaths.

“We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one to COVID-19,” said OHA Director Patrick Allen.

Sadly, we have also surpassed our 800th COVID-19 death today, less than three weeks after marking the 700th death. These are family, friends and neighbors, and we note their deaths with sadness and a renewed determination to suppress the spread of the virus.

“I have heard frequently from those who have refused to believe this pandemic is serious if we aren’t seeing hospitalizations and deaths. Those hospitalizations and deaths are here and are only likely to go up,” Allen said. “Please take this seriously and do what you can to slow the spread: Wash your hands, wear a mask and limit the number of people you come in close contact with.”

The freeze that Oregon began yesterday is intended to lessen the spread of the virus. People in Oregon have flattened the curve in the past, and we can do it again with these measures.

Oregon Coronavirus Update

This list of recent deaths is such a powerful way to show the impact of Covid in Oregon. It also shows the role of underlying conditions in many if not all the deaths. I wish all states would distribute this kind of information (via TV, radio, internet, newspapers) to help people understand what is going on.

anneg - I was about to post the same thing! Really looking forward to learning more about these "neutralizing antibodies." Although I didn't understand 99% of the article, it is fascinating and most of all HOPEFUL. If the doctors and researchers at St. Jude are excited, so am I!

Oregon Coronavirus Update

@Lilibet that cluster of elderly folks is so concerning! Do you know if that was at a care facility?

My neighbor's father lives at Pioneer Village -- have you heard if they have had any outbreaks there? (I don't get to chat with my neighbor much these days to ask how he's doing).

Rick Scott: Florida GOP senator says he has Covid-19 - CNNPolitics

Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida said in a statement Friday morning he has tested positive with Covid-19, adding to the number of lawmakers in recent days that have tested positive with the virus.
......
Scott is the latest senator to test positive with Covid-19. Sen. Chuck Grassley, who is 87, announced earlier this week he was positive.

The cases brings CNN's tally to 26 House members and nine senators that have so far tested positive or been presumed positive since the start of the pandemic.

The increased number in positive lawmakers from both parties and chambers of Congress coincides with the uptick of cases across the country. The House began offering Covid-19 testing for members this week, eight months after the pandemic began.
