So, the RAS is the renin-angiotensin system. And the person speaking of it knows so much due to her studies of anesthesiology - where people think they are asleep, but they are actually made unconscious (yes, there is a difference).
The RAS is what makes all of your systems work together to help you out. Coagulates your blood, while inflamming the area to fight off pathogens, while reabsorbing ions and water to maintain your blood pressure as you are losing blood etc etc.
Covid attacks the RAS system, and if your RAS system is not working well it cannot coordinate the defence against covid very well, and this can lead to severe illness/morbidity.
The speaker thinks this is one reason (not the only reason) for severe illness and death in some covid patients and not others.
