I found that YouTube’s “true crime rocket science” (or “tcrs”) covered this trial. I found him during the Watts case and love him. I haven’t heard his verdict segment…just caught a small part, but he clearly feels like we do, and really is like no other podcaster. Maybe y’all might find him interesting too.
SO HAPPY!
moo
I am watching him right now on his verdict segment.

It would be highly ironic if KM pleas and gets a shorter sentence and had been more hands on in the conspiracy.
MT would be the one who stood behind her man and got sc@@@ed by virtue of trying to protect FD with the alibi script. There is a hubris that she exhibits as she seemed to think that she was smarter than a bevy of detectives. Continually hedging her words and bets.
Interesting that in FD’s “off note” mentioned
that mt and km had nothing to do with Jennifer’s disappearance ! No mention of Powel Gumienny, who was, beyond a doubt, innocent!

I thought I signed up for google alerts. Never heard a thing. It was when I saw an email from “Patch” (which happens to be where Jennifer Farber posted her blog), that I saw the verdict! It’s 9:42 PM and I am still not caught up with postings. After almost 5 years of following this case here, I am SOO grateful for this jury and prosecutors! I really was feeling awful last evening - I was so doubtful at what I thought was the right verdict. Please jury, accept my apologies!
Hello my friend! I spent an inordinate amount of time figuring out the google alert, and got nothing either.

Frightening, but I guess they have to be prepared for crazed family members in denial. I was surprised they hand cuffed and chained her though. I wonder if the Horn prepared her for that
I am fast for my soft, warm bed --

But something struck me just now. MT is getting credit in the media for sobbing in court. There was no sobbing. Hunched over. One photo, I questioned if there wasn't a touch of duper's delight.

Convict #whatever is playing her family! She has used them for five years to spread nicey nice, and now she's acting the part of a poor, crushed soul. So they feel sorry for her. So they put up more money so she can do as she's always done -- stay for free in someone else's house -- hairbnb paid for by daddy -- and can send her minions to bring her lattes and croissants. That's what that display was for. The getmepoutofhere act.

I hope her family gets it right. For once. Tough love. Leave her be. She is where she deserves to be.

You think she'd care if $420k was spent to spring her thongy bum? Think she'd care if it was taken out of her daughter's mouth, future, security? I think MT is a planet of one.

I hope they could get her out, they just don't.

Let her live with what she did. Behind bars.

For good.

Oh, Megnut - love this! There is something seriously wrong with this display! She and her family (who have supported her) have to live with what she has done. <modsnip - off limits> Of course this is moo

Just watching Lawyer Lee recap - and she added an interesting point to the Surety Bond issue.

I explained earlier that the Bondsman operates under an agreement with a Surety who underwrites the entire bail amount (minus 7-10% fee born by the bond seeker) of the financial assurance to the Court.

This is all State regulated. Bondsmen must be licensed to transact business at the Court and held to certain standards. The Sureties are subject to financial regulations (including exposure to fraud torts for running afoul is said regulations). In other words - if you are unfortunate enough to be a consumer of a significant Surety Bond - well the State has you covered if you get scammed.

So - according to Lawyer Lee - the MT Family Bondsman did not have enough security with their Surety to cover $6M. This is not surprising because it’s not on the regular to see a $6M bail. Think of it like “credit” - the Bondsman and Surety have a pre-existing business agreement, and there is an umbrella of $X amount pre approved for the Bondsman to work with where X is NOT $6M, and not even close.

So - securing the bond is going to take even more time. It could be the burden falls to the family to pay a higher than usual non refundable fee in order to cause the Surety to assume the excess risk posed by a $6M and/or other terms - but MT being bonded out is not going to be routine.

In the current era of bond reform, and where CT has long, uniquely adopted that bail is considered to be the “by-product of custody” and a power inherent in the court as long as the prisoner is in its custody (State v. Chisolm, 29 Conn. Sup. 339 (1971)), and where the enactment of the CT statue did not prohibit the essential discretionary nature of bail after conviction…” (Chisolm, 29 Conn. Sup. at 341), I think the Court followed CT's discretionary practice to grant post conviction bail here -- recognizing the defendant was compliant with the terms of her pretrial bail during the last four years, albeit tripling MT's bail post conviction from $2M to $6M!

But let's be clear --for the majority of defendants, most likely including MT, the Court granting a $6M cash or surety bail is really the equivalent of "no bail."

For example, I recall when JLS negotiated MT's pretrial bail initially totaling $2.6M, reduced to $2.1M, citing how the family was 'tapped out.'

This ^^ and not forgetting that in addition to pledged collateral valued at $6M, a non-refundable bond premium, ranging from 7%-10% ($420K - $600K), just to be released until sentencing on 5/31, is hardly prudent!

I trust rational minds might consider this fee best served as an investment in the health, welfare, and future of the young daughter, granddaughter, and niece who's being left behind. JMO

Yes - they are given a heads up…that it is not a “question” and verdict has been reached.

I adored the judge's formalities. I adored when Judge Randolph would refer to himself as the Court. "Hand the Court the letter."

Did I read that MT wanted a moment to say good-bye to everyone before being led away? Did she ask the Sheriff's bailiffs as if she was departing a dinner party instead of a court of law? JS described her condition as devastated. I'd say her condition may be fragile. Mine would be. Lawdy, a 50 year sentence is a life sentence for her.

My thoughts turn to her daughter who is another true victim left to pick up the pieces from this horrendous crime. May her aspiring Olympic dreams take her good places with good people.

Her life crashed and burned. This evening, I'm leaning towards the T fam not attempting bail, att. It's so expensive and she still has court costs, legal fees and lawyers and experts to pay. Appeals to file. I doubt she's bailed out before her contempt hearing on Thursday, March 21. It's not over. Her new hellhole is waiting.

Do we know if Jon Schoenhorn and Audrey Felsen were included in the investigation of the discredited report and do we know if they received Summons themselves to appear or be charged with Contempt?

Only person on the Defence team that claimed to have discredited full report was Schoenhorn. Per usual Audrey Felsen was vague and only claimed at trial to have seen 4 pages of the report.

I have to say I find this entire situation disturbing as MT could very well have gotten the report in digital form from one of her attorneys,

Also, will the State do anything to retrieve the copy of the report that Schoenhorn has in his possession as its a sealed document and has very specific requirements as imposed by Judge Heller.

Honestly I think if the States Attorneys send someone from CSP to Schoenhorns office to pick up the MT Venezuela passport they should also pick up the discredited report and either return it to Judge Heller or simply shred it.

The idea of unsecured full copies of reports is something that in the case of this particular document make me very uncomfortable on behalf of the Victims.

MOO
I truly believe that MT personally had a copy of Dr. Stephen Herman's evaluation dated late April 2019, as early as the date she collected FD from the carwash where he left the Tacoma to be washed/detailed.

I think MT was using this report where she was also said to have been interviewed by Herman, as her calling card to paint both herself and her lover as stable, healthy, nurturing parents of their respective, thriving children.

If I recall correctly, MT met with her initial attorney Andrew Bowman around the same date as the car wash. During one of the the three interviews by police with her attorney present, I also recall MT bringing up the (custody) "report" with police but stopping short of discussing the content after Bowman discouraged her from doing so.

In other words, IMO, Bowman seemed to be familiar with the content of " the report" in a manner where I think he also read the report provided by MT. Of course, I have no way of knowing this and this was just my observation and opinion.

One time I heard a defense attorney say she always knows when her client is going to be convicted by the number of LE in the room when they are called back for a verdict. It makes sense that LE would be alerted to a guilty verdict so they can beef up security in case a defendant goes crazy

Did the judge wear ties like the one he wore today during the trial? I didn’t see any of the trial with the exception of today. I’ve just listened to the audio throughout.

It was always my belief that FD shared his purloined copy of the family with MT and her family at the Greek Easter celebration at the end of April in 2019. MT or a member of her family could easily have had a D "hard" copy from that time frame, IMO.

Good for you for catching that interaction between MT and attorney Bowman. I also don't know this as a fact, but early family postings on twitter by the Troconis suggest they believed the court sealed family study was the key to MT's innocence.

SMH...I don't think the Troconis family has been able to acknowledge that the evidence of the phone manipulation on May 24th and other evidence indicates she's providing an alibi for FD...and thus she is guilty of the conspiracy charge.

Frightening, but I guess they have to be prepared for crazed family members in denial. I was surprised they hand cuffed and chained her though. I wonder if the Horn prepared her for that possibility.
Imagine, in your dreams, remembering the moment you were handcuffed and chained.
What a nightmare, that became 'true'.

Admittedly, at first I was disappointed when I heard the defense ask to reschedule sentencing to a date other than 5/24, because 5/24 felt like karmic justice... But then I remembered that 5/31/19 was the first day MT had to publicly face the music. That was the day of the moment of eye contact with FD when they heard the news broke at the Pond. The start of knowing they were caught, people beginning to ask if it was appropriate for them to be there at all, the beginning of MT witnessing her own undoing. Maybe 5/31 is perfect for sentencing.

Judge Randolph wore his favorite Felony Friday black and white striped tie.

JR led the lawyers across the finish line of a lengthy, arduous journey. He handled the Jury gently so hopefully they can survive what they've witnessed. The Jury decided the Final Act.

The Jurors, the finders of fact, decided how this tragic story would end. I am so <modsnip>' proud of them. I think Judge Randolph is proud of his jury, too.
