I suppose in most of the cases...LE never bothered to check the cell phones to discover if the towers matched up with the locations where they found the "accidental" drowning victims.

I would hope, at least now, LE would go back and get the computers (that are left) of these people and see if there's any 'common connection' there.
Although they didn't origianally think these were connected, now that they know there's the possibilility, they should leave no stone unturned.

There are only one or two who are willing to reopen their cases for a second look. As far as the others are concerned...the cases are closed so no further investigation will be done. The problem is that nothing was done before the cases were closed to that end.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that was the common denominator in this story..that all the guys who were known to have cell phones with them that evening..were later found without them and not trace of them. Or in Chris Jenkins's case his girlfriend had it..who is very suspect to his disappearance, IMO. Whereas, even other clothing and articles of theirs were found..many in the opposite direction of the bodies.

I think the cell phones were used as a defining factor..they were a trophy, possibly to prove their kill to other murder club members and the hierarchy. Since they weren't tortured or robbed, this is one personal object that most of the vics would have had that night.

In some cases, the men were separated from there phones because they were thrown out of the bar. I find it deplorable if it is standard practice not to allow someone to collect their belongings or to have one of the bouncers escort them for that purpose. I have NEVER heard of it happening here. Yet in a couple or so cases here...it is another commonality.

I agree about Chris' so-called GF. Something is very wrong with that whole scenario. I am telling you...women her age don't normally act the way she did about her BF not being around at the end of the night or not coming home at all!! She knows something.

I could be wrong, but I thought with a few of them, their cell phone was found, just at an odd place or whatever. I could be wrong though.

Several of them did make phone calls that night. Some attempted phone calls and got voice mails etc too.

SS.....I guess one of the commone denominators of these is the speed with which the various LE agencies are quick to dismiss these as ALL accidental. Just like if you want to get away with murdering your wife, you make her disappear so they don't know WITHOUT A DOUBT she's dead. Just say she left you for another man, ie DPeterson, Stebic, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Kill someone who's out drinking, either make them completely disappear without a trace or drown them, and it immediately becomes an accident.

The perfect crime, I would say.

Someone coined a new term for those type of husbands: Erasers. I think it is very appropriate.

The men left behind are expert liars, she said. Manipulators who are hungry for attention.

Strong calls them "eraser" killings. Her book on the topic, "Erased: Missing Women, Murdered Wives," hit bookstores in March.

Yes, you are right about the cell phones in some of the cases. Still..the phones are usually separated from the victim.

Of the suspected cases, SS is correct, the cell phone if recovered, was NOT with the victim

Totally agree, I have been up and down those case files (thanks SuzQ) and the answers are with her, the roomate, and the cop, hands down.

What are they doing with all the cell phones?! This question is really bothering me.

The cell phones are probably just a diversion tactic; unless they also are supposed to serve as another clue. For a diversion tactic; maybe the killer drugs the young man with GHB and dumps the body in water after the man go unconscious. Then maybe thekiller drives a good distance like 10-20 miles and puts the cell phone in a place where they hope someone will find it. This way the rescue crew will focus on where the cell phone was found; and not where the body was dumped. The diversion gives the GHB enough time to leave the body before the young man is found, which is usually a good 5-30 miles from where the cell phone was found.

But most of the cell phones have never been recovered..only a couple of them.

The cell phone is a diversion tha leads the rescue crews to look in the wrong place for the victim, which allows all the evidence to disappear, but it also might have another twisted purpose. It probably also brings joy to the killer; as he probably enjoys laughing at the cops when they set up rescue teams a good 20 miles away.

Well, I might be focusing too much on the recent Albany, NY case, whereJosh Szostak's cell phone was found by a stolen SUV; which was a good 25 miles where his body was found. I thought a bunch of cell phones were found; odd then and possibly a weird clue then; if its just a couple cells found; even though most of the kids are found with their wallets; but not their cell. In Albany; the stolen SUV did not have a trace of Josh's DNA yet his cell phone was found right near it

There is actually one pic of Tommy at the bar.
Here's one more weird thing....his cell phone. The phone company has the last call going out at 12:58 am. But -- it's not to a phone #. It's a random list of #'s like 111779.

Hi Denise; is that Tommy in the pic with a green and white striped shirt? Any idea when the pic of him was taken? As to him punching numbers but not to a phone, that is odd. To check messages don't you have to dial your number first?

It depends on the cell phone you have. On mine...1 = VM. 1 = menu. 1 = messages. 7 = delete. 7 = delete. 9 = save or saved messages

The Professor said that they were leaving things in one direction opposite of where the bodies were found. He believes they are using it as a diversion tactic, too.

SL- do you have a link about the fact they tested the SUV against Josh's DNA specifically? I have heard that and never been able to verify it?

Upthread I asked Denise to verify that Tommy did in fact connect with his voice mail, if that is correct, those numbers match my cell "command prompts" as well. I think it is critical to find out what messages he in fact listened to , who they were from, and what was deleted.

If they did a triangulation on the cell phone towers...even if it is not making calls, it would track to the body by doing this so I don't see them using it in this manner.

I think most of us believe they are drugging the men with GHB in the bars or parties...getting them thrown out or they leave to get air then they are kidnapped from there. There is no way to know exactly when they are taken to the river, but while still drugged and unable to fight much. They wouldn't have to be unconscious, but could very well be. (Altho..Chris did appear to fight by pulling out his own hair in an attempt to get their hands off his head.)

I also believe like the Detectives that these men are singled out and essentially stalked before they are killed. They have to wait until exactly the right time. This goes to premeditation and careful planning, imo.

I agree, I think it is part of their signature and planning process.
