I just don't know but I have read where DNA was extracted from mummies that were really, really old. I don't know if that info is all that helpful, mummies were somewhat preserved.:slap::nevermind:

Just read an article in Forensic Science journal about DNA degradation in bones. Interesting that weathering increases DNA. Also, the femur is the best bone for extracting DNA. I copied the link, but it didn't work and now I can't find it:banghead:

I thought it rather odd that the author chose to single out only one name "of several area missing people" to name and wondered why that person was chosen.

No disguised opinion here ~ just "can kicking" since I thought there may have been some reason Jennifer Wilkerson seemed to have been most interesting to the writer.

Anyone?

That is Lubbock news...
Hailey is 2 hours from there, while Jennifer was 30 minutes away.
I didn't think it was anything more than location.

With the body last year they just issued a statement that the body was male.
There has not been a press conference held to announce a body was NOT Hailey correct?

So IF they call a press conference to announce results...
We can feel confident they have an ID and it may be Hailey.

maybe because the reporters name was Jennifer and this girls name was Jennifer. Maybe because she was from Lubbock (85 miles from Snyder). I don't know. I do know we want Hailey info, but I'm sure there's another group desperately wanting Jennifer news. Can't imagine the pain these families endure

They matched John Gardner's DNA from Chelsea King's clothing to his sample on file, in CA, over a weekend. I don't know why it should take months or weeks to match a sample from bones to Hailey's, or Billie's DNA. JMO

That's easy. We are talking West Texas here. Even if it is possible to do something quickly, it just doesn't work that way. The actual testing may not take long but someone has to "giddaroun-tuit" (uhem, "get around to it"). After that happens, the public will get the results after the news trickles down until someone decides the whole town is talking about it on the grapevine so they might as well let Sparky tell us.

I like a much faster pace myself, but to each his own.

It was in Texas last time but the confirmation that it was not Hailey was still back within the week though.

Its only been slightly over a week since these remains were found. From all accounts they were spread over a scattered area and its likely some werent found It has been said that some people on thiis forum have been waiting a year for identification to be complete. Although I desperately want to know if that is Hailey I want LE to do what they have to do to ensure they get a conviction for whoever those remains are they are. After the Casey Anthony case I would hate for someone else to walk free. The other thing is LE may know who the remains are but are simply working on tieing up loose ends in the case before arresting any culprits.

It's been a reaallly looongg week. I do feel for the families that have been waiting such a long time. I am not a patient person. I like how the tv shows have answers about DNA in about 20 minutes. Not realistic but that is the way I wish it worked.

If these remains are not Hailey's, she will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as will the person whose remains these are, they have a home and a family somewhere.

I'm not too sure about arrests and convictions in Hailey's case, time has certainly marched on. I hope that LE gathered as much evidence in the beginning of this case as possible. I place a lot of faith in the FBI and Texas Rangers.

There are families at WS that have been waiting for DNA analysis results, some for over a year (eg. Anna Water's Mother).

It may be a long time, I try to have faith in the process.

Hopefully this UID will be laid to rest properly.
