that's your own opinion (which based upon your history of being treated unfairly by the Suffolk County PD is surely biased against the police force and the Suffolk County leadership).

There's the possibility that the case wasn't investigated as fully as it should have been due to internal politics or potential conflicts of interest.

This thread relates to the LE investigation itself given it's about the former Suffolk Co PD Chief.

Hope that helps!!! :)

What evidence are you basing this upon or is it simply another one of the hundreds of theories that can't be proven?

Just my opinion, but I think it's tough to have faith in an investigation by detectives/officers who answer to a police chief who repeatedly loses his gun and has relationships with convicted felons. (And, that's just the "mild" stuff on Burke... from what I've read in news reports)

The officers and detectives who work for Suffolk County Police Department (and especially those who were and still are assigned to this case) are absolute professionals and among the best in their field. Who cares who they had to answer to. The criminal actions of their former chief is absolutely in no way any reflection of the way each one of the individual officers and detectives live their lives and carry out their professional duties. It's such a horrible world when people show disrespect for police officers. Unless you walk in their shoes you have no idea how difficult their jobs are and how often they risk their lives to protect people like you.

46 months HOWEVER, let's not forget that he was DENIED bail so he already has 11 months time served. There is no longer Parole for Federal prisoners BUT they can earn 54 days off of their sentence for every year served;

Prisoners serving sentences of more than a year but less than life can earn up to 54 days per year off their sentences for good behavior. (18 U.S.C. § 3624(b).)

He was arrested December 1st 2015. He will be released on or about May 1st 2019. Basically only 30 more months in prison. That's surely a far cry from the TWENTY YEARS that everyone said he would get.

Now that little Loeb put big bad Jimmy in prison for years, I guess this adds a few million to Loeb's
lawsuit against the - oh what is it? 14 members of SCPD?

Loeb's lawyers were looking smart today.

Say HEY!!!!

was the girlfriend of the guy in the picture.
His initials are G.G.

Girlfriends initials are T.S.
She was trying to get the attention of the feds to look into the
case of her boyfriend, GG. He's in some kind of trouble and in prison.

Someone, no wait... everyone should care who "they" had to answer to. Burke admitted to coercing fellow officers. Even the best, most professional officers can't always thwart the evils of the one who is suppose to lead/supervise them. The good guys always have my respect, until they don't.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/27/n...-suffolk-county-police-chief-guilty-plea.html

"The former police chief of Suffolk County pleaded guilty on Friday to federal charges stemming from accusations that he beat a suspect in custody, threatened to kill him and then coerced his fellow officers into covering up the misconduct."

In subsequent weeks, Burke pressured his colleagues to cover up the abuse. One cop later told the US attorney's office that if it were discovered by Burke that he had spoken to the FBI during the investigation, he would be a "dead man."

Yes, let's make this thread about "Blue Lives Matter" :face palm:

edited to add: in all seriousness, did either of you - (hoot owl and ps149) work this case? It sounds like you are both cops and both defending Burke so I'm wondering if you have anything to share. Like an alternate opinion, etc?

I'm not defensing Burke but I am ABSOLUTELY defending the police officers and detectives who are not here to defend themselves every time someone comes up with an unwarranted theory that this case wasn't investigated properly because the police force is corrupt. It's not fair to any of the officers or detectives who were (and many who still are) working this case. These are unforgiveable crimes and the law enforcement personnel who are assigned to this case want nothing more than to see the people responsible to be put behind bars.

What about that other officer... detective Vincent Stephan? The one "working" SG's case. Was he one of Suffolks' finest?? What do you believe he wanted by publicly sharing his "professional opinion" (now known as lies) regarding SG's 911 call?

"... Her demeanor on the tape was calm. You can hear male voices on the tape, and they are calm. At no time during this call was she desperate. From what I heard on the call, Gilbert was not speaking as if she were in danger."

http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...r-shannan-1.3473520+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

When did you hear the tape? You must have in order to know he lied.

Oh seriously, mc... you've been around far long enough to see and read everything on this case.

So, it's Varrone and Dormer who are liars?? Not Vincent Stephan??

Suffolk's former Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone uses the words "incoherent, not very rational, psychotic episode" to describe Shannan's 911 call in the link below (shared many times here on WS):

And, let's see, how about former Commissioner Dormer's opinion:

".... Dormer told local reporters “You know, that’s explainable because she’s hysterical. We know that and she’s discarding her possessions as she moves along. Her jeans could have come off moving in that environment. We’ve looked at this very carefully and that is a possibility, that the jeans came off and she kept running, kept running towards the lights. Obviously, she was disturbed that night.”"

More Varrone:

"...and ... you hear her scream out."

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/48-hours-uncovers-missing-escort-shannan-gilberts-final-minutes/

Dormer/Varrone versions: hysterical, incoherent, psychotic break, scream out

OR

Stephan's version: calm

And then there's the late Gus Coletti - He certainly didn't described SG as calm when banging on his door and still on the 911 call.

I don't care who you beLIEve... but someone with a Suffolk Co badge lied. (And, maybe the liar was coerced?!)

That piece of garbage admitted to getting at least 10 cops and other officials to LIE for him. It is exactly what he did in my former son in law’s case. The lies were stupendous and the jury heard them and laughed. It has to make you wonder how 12 allegedly sane people couldn’t even find reasonable doubt, if not without a doubt.

One of the police witnesses he used has already been arrested and will be formally charged in federal court once the government completes their investigation. Up to 10 others will be charged or have been used as witnesses in further investigations.

The jury heard Burke’s neighbor, a career criminal get caught in lies, e.g.

SIL did an armed robbery when he was in Europe. That got a gasp and a hoot.
A career criminal/drug dealer was at the store that was burglarized and tore down the alarm box. The witness said he could never forget a crime such as this because he had a police officer in a police car waiting outside as a lookout. That person was in a Virginia Jail. Ooooh, ahhhh, Ha, ha, ha.

Caught him lying when he said was so shaken when his co-burglar slashed the hand of a victim in a home invasion and it led him to getting his life back on track and that is why he was testifying. It was proven he was so ‘shaken’ that he went out immediately and did another burglary without knowing if the residents were in the house.

Gets caught lying about beating up a girl in a love triangle. Out and out lies. When caught he tells the jury so what is the big deal everybody lies to woman.

And it goes on and on and on.

If think this evil SOB wouldn’t get detectives to lie for him in the Gilgo case I have that bridge to sell you. It is part of his DNA. If it protects him from other crimes he wouldn’t blink an eye to interfere in the investigation, and IMO, he probably did.

Are some of you people nuts that you can't begin to understand these people are capable of anything when the know the DA is four square behind them and will NEVER prosecute them for perjury?

Until I hear it, I can't really say who's version of what they heard is closest to what I would hear. I can say this...
Varrone's comments came during an edited production that he was being paid to do, and designed to sell a product. Making it more sensational and gripping would be desired by all involved.
Dormers comments are describing events that took place after the phone call ended and are slanted to support his belief that she died on the marsh tragically because of her own actions.
Stephan is a Det. actually working on the case and probably listened to the tape multiple times with other Det.'s as they all tried to decide what was going on in the callers mind and in the background.
While without hearing it myself I can't for sure say whose version is closest to what I'd hear if I listened to it, I can say whose version is most likely to be closest to what is actually on the recording.
