Until I hear it, I can't really say who's version of what they heard is closest to what I would hear. I can say this...
Varrone's comments came during an edited production that he was being paid to do, and designed to sell a product. Making it more sensational and gripping would be desired by all involved.
Dormers comments are describing events that took place after the phone call ended and are slanted to support his belief that she died on the marsh tragically because of her own actions.
Stephan is a Det. actually working on the case and probably listened to the tape multiple times with other Det.'s as they all tried to decide what was going on in the callers mind and in the background.
While without hearing it myself I can't for sure say whose version is closest to what I'd hear if I listened to it, I can say whose version is most likely to be closest to what is actually on the recording.

THANK YOU.

You explained in detail EXACTLY how I feel about this.

Verrone is selling something in his 48 Hours interview?? Hmmm.... what product would that be? Sensationalism? LE Retirement Association? ???

(Link from my post http://www.cbsnews.com/news/48-hours-uncovers-missing-escort-shannan-gilberts-final-minutes/)

So you don't trust the opinions of these three Suffolk County law enforcement officers (a police commissioner, a chief of detectives, and a detective) enough to say which version is closest to the truth??

THANK YOU.

The versions are totally different. One cannot be hysterically calm.

'Seems as if locals would be fighting for the release of the 911 call recording. Forget those trained members of law enforcement... let the public decide the truth.

Fred, what do you know. If memory serves me right you are nothing more than some $hitkicker out of Kentucky. Varrone, what is he other than the former Chief of Detectives. Det.Stephan - what does he know. He is still working on solving the murder of a police witness named Ghattas, 9/24/03. The same case the witness that was giving information to the police about Burke, the now proven liar's neighbor Joe C.

Arrow Security. Do they have a connection with Oheka Castle where a Gary Melius was shot. Isn't that the same place Burke had a Christmas Party - not cheap, if you have to pay full boat, and was telling his pals how he beat up prisoners - waxing nostalgic.

Release the tape - simple enough. Redact, if necessary.

Detective Stephan took it upon himself to write a letter to Newsday. YEAH, right. Now this is better than the three lies: Check is in the mail, I love you, and I won't........ OK, will leave that for an *advertiser censored* Rated Board. He just decided on his own to set the record straight. There seem to be no end to their lies because no one is going to hold them accountable tor them.

This is why I have continued to link the SIL case with this case and others. Once you understand the outrageous lies they manufactured in that case I assure you will have no problem understanding the lies they are telling in the LISK case.

I wish with all my heart that someone was smart enough to ask the Feds, SINCE THEY WERE RIGHT THERE,
to PLEASE subpoena the 9-1-1 call from SCPD;

but, oh heavy sigh, it doesn't seem like anyone thought of it.

Capers was RIGHT THERE, all someone had to do was look him in the eye and ask him.

Actually, I said I can say who's version is most likely to represent what's on the tape. I didn't think it was necessary to say it's the Det.'s. In my mind it's the obvious choice.

Alrighty! Interesting choice. 'Maybe Stephan should have been the Chief of Detectives instead of DV.

Simple solution: RELEASE THE TAPE!!!

Simple for us here. However Suffolk's law regarding the release of 911 calls creates a bit of a tangle.

The law we made keeps us from serving the justice. Must be the cheapest excuse for not solving a case.

mcme, why don't you stop jacking the people off with that excuse. It doesn't apply here !!! Watch any damned show on TV like Dateline, 48 hours, or 20/20, and I will bet you in at least 80% of those shows they are playing 911 Tapes !!!

Although I am no fan of the personal politics of MCME, he/she/it/ufo/chud
cannabalistic humanoid underground dwelling or what ever MCME is....MCME is correct in this circumstance of this
911 call and entanglements.

There is a lawsuit from the Estate of Shannan Gilbert regarding releasing the 911 call
pending a ruling from Judge Daniel Martin
on the matter. Here is a Newsday article on the matter.

http://www.newsday.com/long-island/...ght-in-suit-suffolk-fights-release-1.11531924

Lawyers for the Gilbert estate have gotten judicial orders requiring the county to turn over the 911 tapes, but the county has sought to quash those orders.
A lawyer for the estate, John Ray of Miller Place, argued in an
earlier court filing that there is legal precedent for releasing 911 tapes and other investigative materials needed in a lawsuit.

Ray’s associate, Vesselin Mitev, said after a court hearing last week that Suffolk police had just sought the public’s help with an open case by releasing a video showing the 2014 shooting of Oheka Castle owner Gary Melius.

Judge Daniel Martin, who is presiding over the case, has given no indication when he will rule on the 911 dispute.

Tangle, yes. Impossible, NO. The law is not iron clad, as shown in the case below.

The court denied the County's request to quash AND granted release of the 911 material!

"Accordingly, the Court of Claims properly denied the County’s motion to quash the subpoena duces tecum and granted that branch of the claimant’s motion which was to compel production of the 911 materials."

Judge Daniel Martin has the opportunity to do the correct and proper thing in the civil litigation against Hackett... he has the ability to grant the release of the 911 recording.

ETA: IMO That's the most advantageous (& maybe the only good) thing about the case against Hackett... it could produce SG's 911 call!!!

I concur.

but yelling at MCME to stop jacking "the people off" with the excuse of Suffolks' law
regarding the release of 911 calls

is not going to solve the outstanding matter.

Since you were in court in front of the Federal Judge who spanked Burke HARD
and kept him at Brooklyn Detentional Center while awaiting sentencing
why didn't you tell the Feds to sue for the 911 call?

eh? You had so much to say, why didn't you ask?

Just asking.

Maybe I write so much stuff I forget what I wrote. But I have no recollection of saying I was in court for the 'spanking" What I did tell the FEDS after the sentencing is to take a real hard look at the 9/24/03 murder of Peter Ghattas and try to determine how Ghattas was murdered so soon after he became known to Spota and Burke. That BS they spun when he got killed how his killer found out doesn't fly with me. Maybe Det.Stephan would like to write another letter to Newsday and tell us something about that case as he investigated it and came back with no arrests.

BTW, if the FEDS want the tape I assure you they already have it.

The jacking people off comment you made: You would have the readers believe that Stephan is a more credible source as to the content of the tape than the former Chief of Detectives, all the people that said they heard and saw Shannan banging on doors screaming help. The fact it was a 23 minute call to 911 and she remained calm throughout. And now she is dead with no official cause of death entered into the record.

You would actually believe, or expect us to believe that Stephan woke up one day and took it upon himself to write a letter to Newsday and told us he heard the tape and there is nothing to indicate SG thought her life was in danger.

Do you really think a former Chief would go on You Tube and lie about what he knew to be on the tape simply because he was looking to sensationalize a story for commercial purposes.

Those shows are not playing 911 calls from Suffolk county N.Y. because the the laws covering that here in Suffolk county do, in fact, apply here.

OK, so why do they have such a nonsensical law in Suffolk County. What in the world has playing the 911 Tape of a girl now dead for more than 5 years have to do with anything? And if it is so secret why does a detective working on the case write a letter to Newsday telling us there was nothing on the tape suggesting SG's like was in danger. And why does the Chief of Detectives that has since retired go on the Arrow You Tube show and discuss the tape and his account is much different than the detectives. Not such a big secret, is it.

Sorry, I don't have answers to your questions.

I saw The People show the other night and loved it. I loved it because it put Burke's feet to the fire. I also liked the part when John Ray talks about the Det.Stephan letter that was contradicted by other material. But the best is yet to come. I think the difference between PEOPLE and A & E is like reading the National Enquirer vs. PBS/FRONTLINE/ 60 MINUTES.

PEOPLE will come and go while A & E will be a classic production that will probably get a lot of awards.
