I have never heard she thought he was taking her to a McDonalds outside of the store. Are you sure about that?

It was posted here that the McDonald's in the store closes at 10 PM, and it's obvious when one enters the store whether it's open or not. Since Cherish and Smith went off to McDonald's at 10:40 PM, Mom had to have known they were going to a different McDonald's.

And, from where girls clothing is- from its main aisle- you can see McDonalds and the doors.

O/t just FYI
...
Can an 8 year old fly alone? I can not book a flight for a child without an adult. ....
snipped for brevity
Yes they can as an unaccompanied minor, various airlines have various rules, it is generally ages 5- 14...and there is an extra fee collected each way. My 7 yr old grandun has twice, , and I know another 11 yr old who regularly flies alone from Atl to Cayman

I see. I misunderstood and thought you had meant it had actually been said somewhere.

If you watch the video, you can see where Mc D's is vs. the store exit. There are both greeters and security milling around the doors- and cashiers at their posts. If there has been any hesitation/scuffle near those doors- someone would have noticed. As the "additional" details on the police report ( upthread, posted by the Cheese) stated, she followed him out.

I am so sorry for this poor baby who clearly would still be alive if it were not for her mothers negligence!!! Hard times or not, what woman lets a 50 something man who is a stranger escort their child anywhere? I may start a thread on all the children who have turned up dead due to their parents negligence unless there is one already....I wouldn't be surprised if there was one. The only way someone is stealing my child is out of my bare hands or at school because those are the only ways to access her! She should be prosecuted as well!

I don't really understand why Rayne trusted Smith to drive Cherish to another McDonald's, but then assumed that he had abducted her when they didn't return back less than 40 minutes later. The nearest McDonald's is 11 minutes away, so the entire duration of the trip could easily take over 30 minutes....

So.....McDonald's is visible from both doors. It doesn't close until 10:00, and all accounts have Cherish and her mother and siblings inside the store before that time, so what they would have passed upon entering is an open McDonald's.

BUT...regardless of whether the mother realized it was after 10:00 and that the McDonald's in the WM should be closed...had she glanced up she could have seen plainly that the WM McDonald's was closed when the perpetrator mentioned getting McDonald's. Is that correct, momrids6?

I think it depends on the Walmart. In our super Walmart, you couldn't hope to see the Mcdonalds or entrance from the clothing section. I sure hope surveillance reveals what she could and could not see.

Which leads me to wonder what layouts are in other parts of the country...?

I live In Texas, and all of ours have the same layout. There are 3 entrances. If you are standing in front of walmart looking into the store...

The grocery side is on the far right side and the homegoods/clothing side is sandwiched between the grocery entrance and the garden entrance on the left. So, it's pretty much the middle of the building as far as scale. The McDonalds is directly inside the grocery entrance, on the right. When you walk in the grocery side, you see the McDonalds right there, walk a few feet and the produce section starts. All the grocery aisles are behind that. When you walk in the homesgoods side, the woman's clothing is right there (you can't see the McDonlds, other then lights on) and behind that is the little girls clothing. (You can't the mcdonalds at all rom that section.) The baby stuff is sandwiched in between the pharmacy and girls clothing. Definitely can't see the McDonalds from there.

Sorry that was a novel. Basically, what I'm saying...unless you are in the cosmetics or at the checkout stand, you can NOT see the McDonalds. Which makes her allowing her daughter to go with him (I believe she did) even more insane. BUT, it sounds like the layout of that store is quite different...??

Well, for reference sake, I live in Ontario, Canada....same layout.

Yes: and quoting the police report, the cops initially put out a BOLO on the van-not a child abduction.
Transcribed copy of what police report says via MSM: ( including typos) Video at link:
BBM:

OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AND TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT ISSUED FOR SMITH'S VAN.

AT 12:29 THIS MORNING, THE JACKSONVILLE SHERIFF'S OFFICE ALERTS THE MEDIA TO AN INCIDENT AT THAT WALMART BUT THERE'S NEVER ANY MENTION OF A CHILD ABDUCTION.

AT 1:45, A SECOND ALERT IS GIVEN TO THE MEDIA BUT AGAIN THERE IS NO MENTION OF ANY CHILD ABDUCTION.

AT 4:40, A THIRD ALERT IS ISSUED AND THE MEDIA IS TOLD ABOUT THE KIDNAPPING. 5:28 A.M., ...."

For reference: This Walmart is laid out oddly- and my Walmart in GA is laid out differently than this one and both of yours.
The Walmart at the Jacksonville airport exit is laid out another way. The last time I was at this Walmart- you could see it was closed from the end of the children's section- lights are off, etc.

This one has 2 main entrances; and a fenced garden entrance- which is closed at that time of night.

ETA: Take this one- - it is pretty close: http://www.mytimetowaste.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Walmart-store-map-Connersville.jpg replace customer service with McDonalds

I'm in florida, the two wm's i go into both have similar but different layouts. the one with a mcds, you can't see much of the entrance unless in the checkout lanes. the one with a subway, youcan see the entrance from the lanes and the ladies clothing, pharmacy...

regardless, i can always see my kids.

YES! I agree with you. I was just curious if she could truly use not knowing it was closed and not seeing her, as an "excuse." Not that I think it can be excused, but she is certainly trying to save face.

Me too :)

And over my dead body they would be heading to McDs with a creepy old man.

Or anyone else I'd met just a few hours before, for that matter. I don't care if the person had a halo and wings...nope...not my kid/grandkidz.

I would feel less doubt about this story ( a bit less) over this whole thing if she drove her own vehicle to Walmart. A neighbor stated he drove the live in BF to walmart- so I assume she must have drove to the Dollar General.

Is Rayne Perrywinkle from Australia?

I only found one on Facebook (2 profiles but same person) but it says she is from Australia (pretty certain it's her since she resembles the mom in this twitter picture).

Maybe people are more trusting in Australia? I know we have a lot of Australians on this board, so I'm curious to see their thoughts (if this is the same person).

I'm Australian and no, I am far from trusting. I keep my doors locked all the time at home and always in the car. I have taught my kids protective behaviours and I "helicopter" parent. They don't get to go outside without me etc. The oldest is 15 and I've just started letting him head to the mall with his mates. They aren't allowed to spend the night at friends houses until they are twelve, not allowed to walk home from school. And I'm not overprotective. Most of the parents I know are the same.
When I was growing up in the 80's-90's we had a lot more freedom, but now, no way. With the availability of news and the internet comes the knowledge of what is out there.

Yeah...she either had her own car, or they walked/got a ride to DG.
